Doffy cares about three things in his life: himself, power, and his brother. The thing is, this isn’t true, is it? Because he loves his brother- he loves him enough to kill for -but he only loves the ‘his’ part of the words ‘his brother’. He loved the Rosinante he has built up in his mind. He loves a fiction which he has carved into the skin of the reality. And Rosinante, quiet, reserved, wary, is the perfect canvas to paint on. The perfect mess of blank space to rework into a brother closer to himself. He loves the ownership of a sibling bond more than he loved the sibling. Worst of all is that he doesn’t know this. Maybe he realized the truth when he heard Rosinante’s adult voice for the first and only time and saw the mask of obedience fall away. Maybe he simply layered another coat of projection over his brothers silhouette, reshaping him in his mind, changing him from ‘cherished possession’ to ‘loathed traitor’ and swapping one false perception for another. Maybe when Rosinante revealed his true self to Doflamingo, free from pretenses and omissions, Doffy saw the truth- that the precious little brother who he had carried in his mind had never really existed. Perhaps he kills Rosinante as punishment, not for his betrayal, but because Rosinante, in revealing his true self, killed the brother Doflamingo had come to love so dearly. it's no surprise that he loved that fictional brother when he was the one who invented him. He has a brother, but he does not truely know him. he doesnt want to. why would he? after all, Doffy only cares about two things…. Himself, and power…
