She was supposed to be restocking the hair products right now, but instead she was tucked in the back near the breakroom, clutching her phone with both hands. Erin had fled the aisle as soon as she’d heard her phone chime in her back pocket to check her texts. Bad work ethic, but the rush of the store had ebbed, giving her more than a moment. She had been right about James inviting her to dinner. There was no hiding the smile it brought to her face.

That way it would give him enough time to figure out what to cook, what to buy from the store and hopefully enough time to make it. Maybe he could look at one of the cookbooks around the library and maybe check one out? Yeah that’s what he’ll do and then he’ll quickly run over to the store and gets what he needs.

The Vet doesn’t let go, instead his hold on her gets tighter, not enough to hurt Anna, no, he could never hurt her. He promised to protect her, and he vows to keep it. Eventually he loosens his grip, allowing Erin to turn around to face him. He lifts his head to look at her.

His own face is distraught. Eyes are blood shot and his pupils are small. There’s bags underneath his eyes, he looks like he hasn’t been sleeping for a while. He looks somewhat terrified, like he’s starring at a ghost.

He tries to hold back a choked sob, but it’s a failed attempt. He’s back to sobbing. He’s quiet for sometime, his breathing is labored in between sobs.

He’s not looking at Erin. No this wasn’t Erin. This was Anna. She was back. It was Anna’s red hair, it was her beautiful pale skin. This was Anna.

Erin had barely gotten punched back in from her lunch break when she received the message on her phone. She didnt think she’d get any sort of message until after his shift ended. Then again the library didnt tend to be all that busy on a day like today. When she read the message, however, her heart fluttered. Was he going to invite her to dinner? It seemed the obvious thing to assume, considering it was a question about if she had any plans. Fingers hesitated before carefully piecing together a reply.

As soon as he got the text back his eyes lit up. Now he just needed to figure out what to fix.. What was Erin’s favorite food again? Did he even have food to cook and make a proper meal out at his place? He might end up having to do a quick run to store and try to hide from Erin at the same time, to at least give the illusion he had this all planned out from the beginning.

Erin leaves James some Valentine's Day chocolates and a cheesy little card along with it. Where does she leave it? On his desk at work when she spotted him leaving to help someone find a book. Before he returns, she's already left to head back to her own job.

Coming back to his desk, he wasn’t expecting a present. What was today? What would call for such a gift? It wasn’t his birthday and it’s way past Christmas...... Opening the card he was struck with a sudden realization. His palms began to feel sweaty and his heart beating quickly in his chest.

Today was Valentine’s day, and worst of all he didn’t get Erin anything. Oh no what could he do? Given that Erin wouldn’t probably mind and say that it’s no big deal, he’ll just end up feeling bad because here she is giving him a present while he doesn’t have one for her. He NEEDS to figure out a gift idea and fast because daylight is burning, James.

Think James. Think!

Erin liked romantic cliches didn’t she? At least he assumed she did, given that she always checked out romance novels every now and then when she went to the library. Maybe he can call her over for dinner? Maybe she’ll enjoy that? Or maybe that’s too much of a cliche?

No, no.

It’s a good idea, in his mind. He can also run over to the store and buy flowers? Certainly there had to be another place around that sold flowers other than the store she worked in right?

Quickly, he whipped out his phone sending her a message asking if she had any dinner plans later this evening. Hopefully all can go well tonight.
