To the outside world, the two shared a kid together. A son who, despite not knowing everything he did, looked up to Owen. He had always been the one man who would protect Grayson from all the horrors of the world, even if at times he was that horror. Reese wasnât naive enough to know that over the years things had gotten worse. There was a time where she supported him through everything. He was family to her. One of her closest friends who was willing to help her through one of the darkest periods of life. She had always been grateful for that. Grayson wouldnât have had a chance had it not been for him. Hell, she probably wouldnât have either. But now? Now Reese wasnât sure how to stomach any of this. While yes, she and Rowan werenât always on the best of terms and currently, they were still working on getting to a better point in their lives. But at the end of the day that was also her family and to think that Owen could put a bullet into his sonâs auntâs chest was sickening. It made her blood boil. And how ironic was it that he was the one to teach her to defend herself and now here she was, wanting to use everything she learned on him.
The blonde had let herself when Knox wasnât there. Grayson was with a friend and she cleared her day right up to go and handle the man she could barely even look at right now. It was the anger inside her that propelled her to bring a gun along. The same one she kept for safe keeping at the diner. The one her father taught her how to use. Is sat right in front of her on the coffee table as she waited for his return. Not a word left her lips and she practically remained motionless during the anticipation. Her heart pounding like tribal drums against her chest and hands almost shaking at the thought of using the device against him. A part of her wanted to. But then again, Reese wasnât that type of girl. Especially not if it was going to affect Grayson in the long wrong. But she sat around any way and she waited.
When what felt like forever finally passed, Reese finally watched as Owen come through the door. She sat there in silence still, watching him until he finally noticed her sitting there. The silver gun was still laying on the glass table - pointing directly at him as she had her hands clasped together, resting under her chin. âWelcome home.â She then let out, breaking the silence she had held onto for so long. âTook you long enough. Out shooting at someone elseâs sister? Or perhaps another one of Graysonâs relatives?â She already went at him. Nothing bad compared to what she had bottled up. Theyâd get there eventually.
He was a monster. Heâd be the first to admit to the fact that there was something in him that was just to an extent fundamentally wrong. The casual attitude he had toward violence and even death werenât normal. Normal people felt guilt, normal people regretted their actions and dwelled on the heinous and abhorrent things they did in life whereas for him if he kept it out of mind and never dwelled on it too much, he could sleep fine. If he didnât let it bother him, it didnât. The things heâd done, the things he planned to do, itâd dwell on the heart of any man with a heart but for him, they were just things that needed to be done. Someone had to be the asshole and get shit done, someone needed to be the one to pull the trigger and for him, if no one else planned to step up and take action then heâd be that asshole. Shooting Rowan? The precious little doctor everyone, even the people that were supposed to be on his side seemed to love? It had to be done. It didnât matter the hurt it would cause Reese or Grayson, the two people besides Allana and his sister that he considered family. It had needed to be done and while he had no personal grudge against the woman and while she was to a degree innocent in this whole thing, it had needed to be done. He stood by his actions and while he wasnât tossing and turning in his sleep over what heâd done, heâd also accept whatever consequences came his way for the action heâd taken and for whatever else he planned to do.Â
Stepping into his home for the first time in two days, with things as hectic as they were with Allana, his club and the dive finally being functional again, Knox had found himself with little time to himself. Coming home and being able to relax? It was welcomed or it would have been welcomed if not for the intruder sitting in his living room and making herself at home. Reaching for his gun and actually pulling it free at the womanâs words, acting on instinct it was just as he lined up his shot and moved to pull the trigger that both her words and what he was seeing connected. âReese?â He questioned, his confusion evident by the way he hesitantly called out her name. It wasnât that the woman wasnât welcomed in his home, she was. At any time she was free to use his home for whatever whether he was there or not but the fact that sheâd snuck in and hadnât actually given him notice about the whole thing, that was the part that was confusing him. She knew his life. She knew about the gun he carried on him. Had he not hesitated in his actions, he would have been responsible for two Fishers ending up in the hospital this month. Lowering his gun and moving to explain just that to the woman itâs with a quick glance at his surroundings that he notices the gun situated on his table, deliberately pointed in the direction heâd enter from and carefully placed within arms reach. Able to place the pieces together, with his own finger still placed over the trigger of his own firearm, he hears her out as she continues, her justifiable anger coming out loud and clear as she spoke.Â
Swallowing down a remark that would only further anger the woman, though he lifted a brow at the woman over her theatrics, he made no effort to answer her. Instead, he moved to get himself situated, his actions designed to look like he was ignoring the womanâs presence when in reality every move he made was a deliberate one that he wanted her to see. Removing his finger from the trigger, he moved to drop the magazine into his waiting palm before laying it down on the table he had just inside his entryway to his home. Sliding the clip back and letting the round already loaded into the chamber fall to the floor, it was only when any chance he had at shooting back at the woman was cleared away that he set the gun down. Reaching for his hip and pulling free the knife he always kept stashed in clear view and placing that down too before doing the same to the blade he kept secretly stashed to his leg, free of all weapons a full minute later, it was then and only then that he approached the woman. Taking the seat opposite her, he leaned back in his chair, his face as per usual when dealing with these things void of emotion. âYou know, these things usually go better when you donât start up a conversation beforehand. You start getting hesitant, guilt kicks in, and shit gets sloppy from there.â Clear, crisp and to the point, thereâs really nothing else to say in Knoxâs mind. He canât give her an apologize for what he did and he couldnât take back what had already been done. âYou wanna kill me, Reese? Itâs your right.â And it was her right. Heâd shot up her sister, his sonâs aunt and had cared little on whether she survived the attack or not. Heâd done wrong and if he was in her situation and staring down the bastard whoâd hurt one of his own, he wouldnât hesitate to kill them himself. She deserved her revenge and if she wanted it, he wasnât about to take that from her. Besides, heâd rather lose his life to her than any bitch that repped Primordial. âYou do what you gotta do.âÂ
