Being serious, a partner or fwb or even friend being committed to being an ardent transfeminist and unwilling to compromise on that, regardless of how far into it they are, is one of the biggest deciders on how they treat me both during and after we’re together.
By “ardent” I mean that even when it doesn’t benefit them to claim transfeminism, they still hold fast to their beliefs in it and its goals. A TMA ex of mine who is/was a well-known transfeminist and is the partner of a well-known transfeminist theorist was willing to throw away every part of transfeminism for their benefit when it came to us breaking up.
A TME ex of mine who’s still fairly new to transfeminism and came from having a TMRA partner, is fully committed to transfeminism having seen personally how TMRAs act and behave, and has treated me better as exes than almost any other ex of mine because, in part, theyre truly committed to transfeminism and are aware of many of the pitfalls and common harms inflicted on trans women especially after a breakup.
There are other examples I’ve had of both but these are the forefront of my thoughts. A true commitment to transfeminism, even when it might be “easier” to say one thing and do another, honestly makes a bigger difference than whether someone is TMA or TME. This isn’t to say those groupings aren’t useful - someone TMA is more likely to intrinsically understand a lot of what I’ve been through as a trans woman whether they’re transfeminist or not, but that they aren’t fully an indicator of who’s going to have your back vs. individual or systemic transmisogyny while ardent transfeminism does.

Its a cycle that has repeated in many spaces for many years
1. Women talk about feminism
2. Minority men notice that they are mistreated in society, sometimes in a way that is related to their gender, and sometimes even by the people who call themselves feminists.
3. Men talk about this to feminists. Some feminists make theoretical frameworks that account for the issues, and some do not. Minority feminists point out that those issues are a part of a spectrum of oppression that they also experience, but many try to make concessions to their counterparts' experiences. We're in this together, after all.
4. Minority men now have the choice to accept the intersectional feminist theory that accounts for their experience or reject it. The ones who reject it make a new phrase for their Movement of Men Who Are Oppressed For Being Men. They insist feminist theory is unconcerned with their plight.
5. When minority women in their community refuse to say that the men in their community are free of any misogynistic tendecy, structural privilege, or ability to cause harm, the movement shifts to center all its dialogue around the hostility and cruelty of Minority Women. This is framed as love that is so powerful it even transcends the hate the minority man constantly receives from his beloved minority women. Any minority woman that contradicts this is lumped in with whatever type of feminist theory the minority man can point to as opposing his community, whether they actually support that or not. They claim to support the Correct Feminism and tend to appropriate the language of feminist theory but Reversed.
6. Minority women see the futility of the argument and start to just state that minority men treat them like shit. They stop playing the game. They get mad. They say angry things, even mean things. A couple of them might even say Bad things.
7. Members of the group give up the pretense and just talk about the ontological evil of minority women and how they are the main oppressor of the minority man. They will develop their own talking points about all the structural privileges minority women have over minority men and will use and abuse any woman willing to shill for their ideology. They will probably point to some other community as a tokenized Oppressed Male while ignoring the women in that same community.
7. Eventually, the idea of this being a specific minority issue mostly falls away, and minority men start to point out the ways that even the straightest whitest cissest richest man is oppressed by feminism itself. Assured that no one is below them and they can do no harm, they comfortably form spaces that will accept any man but refuse all but the most servile of women. Their rhetoric trickles down in subtler forms to help get new recruits into their movement. Each new batch of men converted to their way of thinking can simply be blamed on feminism failing to account for them, no matter how hard minority women work to include men in their theory.
Basically a long series of choices where you're able to choose "belief in structural misogyny" or "belief in my own absolute helplessness," and you choose helplessness every time. At the expense of everyone in the world that you have the power to step on
my main thing is that it's mega FUCKING frustrating when black people vent about our experiences with antiblackness in left leaning spaces only to get ignored because non black people genuinely think they're being a nuisance but yall only become annoying if you derail our points or speak over us.
and it's more frustrating when a white person basically repeats our points and have people feel more comfortable interacting with them because they are scared of the angry negro. black people only matter as a hypothetical and when it comes time to really listen to us we are talked over and ignored.

Is such a telling thing from transandrodorks, because it clarifies that they do not understand privilege/power/oppression dynamics, but worst of all it shows they define transhood by hrt. Yes, some trans men pre hrt absolutely have male privilege, because hrt isn't the moment you suddenly become trans, hrt is not when you suddenly become a man or a woman. You can come out and not do anything to medically alter your body. Do you think trans women are spared harassment just because they're not on hrt? Do you think pre hrt trans women are privileged? They also have male privilege while still being oppressed for being gay. Like, do you think that cis gay men and cis gay women have it exactly the same? The women of every single demographic always have it worse than the men of that demographic. Patriarchy gives the men of that demographic privelege over the women of that demographic.

And this is always perfectly displayed by the wage gap. Straight white men make more than straight white women. Black men make more than black women while still making less than all white people. Gay cis men make more than gay cis women while still making less than all straight cis people. And trans men make more than trans women while still making less than all cis people.
There is no caveat about "only when they pass", because this isn't about how you're percieved by the immediate people around you. Its about the systems we live in and who they're designed to benefit.

One year ago I received a death threat from my roommates and lost my job while dealing with the paranoia and anxiety. I have been unable to find employment since then. My girlfriend, her boyfriend, and I have been living together since 2025. I am running out my medications, I no longer have my sleep meds.
