The most you can conclude from your sources is that there may be brain structures linked to homosexuality, not anything specific to gender identity. Many different mental disorders can be determined by brain scans, including anorexia, anxiety, OCD, schizophrenia, and PTSD. Best case scenario, there’s a neurological predisposition to dysphoria, rather than what we’ve seen from social contagion or a response to societal sexism and homophobia. That’s certainly a lot more reasonable than doctors diagnosing a biological male with a ladybrain, which real women have never been determined to have either.

Even if womanhood was neurological lesbians still wouldn’t owe trans woman relationships or sex. Which is what the original post is talking about. In fact, if trans women could actually have the brain of a lesbian then they would understand our distaste for male anatomy and wouldn’t pressure their fellow lesbians into sexually interacting with their male body.

one of the biggest disservices, i think, that has been done to ALL dysphoric people, is that we have no therapy for treating dysphoria.

we have something that is meant to figure out if you have dysphoria or not, and then send you on your way to transition. we call it therapy, we call the people who do that gender therapists. but how is that therapy?

at any point, transitioning/ed or not, dysphoric people need the ability to self manage their dysphoria, just like one has to manage their depression to keep functioning during a depressive episode. for things like depression, ocd, and anxiety, we have specific therapies aimed at helping people develop coping mechanisms. this is completely lacking in dysphoric care.

there is no help for dysphoric people who dont want to or cant transition. there is no help for dysphoric people who transition just does help, to any degree.

as someone who transitioned, please listen to me when i say it doesnt cure your dysphoria. you stay dysphoric. for some people, it lessens it, which is why people do it. you still need to know how to handle whats left of it.

the fact that there is absolutely no therapy developed to help aid dysphoric people in learning to manage their dysphoria AT ALL is absolutely ridiculous. why are we allowing ourselves to be treated this way?

i dont care if you think transition is absolutely necessary, that only a specific set of people are “actually trans,” whatever. not all dysphoric people are able to transition. dysphoria doesnt disappear upon transitioning. we deserve to have actual help for dysphoria.

i dont know how to make it happen. my only hope is that if enough people realize how insane this is, that we are given no help at any stage for our debilitating illness, that psychologists will take notice and work to provide us the services that should have always been available.

This is an issue I’ve noticed over the years, both as someone who has been in the system as a consumer and professional and as someone who transitioned.

In light of the current lack of adequate therapy to aid people in managing their dysphoria, I began developing a self-help process to at least guide people in understanding the roots of their dysphoria. There is more to it in the works, but the guide I have available now is here:

It isn’t an approach that will work for everyone, but given that we have nothing so far, something is a start.

But the degree of pain experienced by dysphoric people should be understood. The links to trauma, personality disorders, Autism and social forces paint a complex picture.

The rates of presentation rising in such a short time (ROGD) bears examination. The change from mostly transgender males in adulthood to tween & teen females should be looked at.

Also, talk about conversion therapy, young kids with GD desisted in most cases and were homosexuals. Now those kids are being made straight by parents in the name of “"validation” and social control.

Why are you shutting down rape crisis centres for women then? Why are you shutting down women’s festivals? Why are you protesting women’s libraries? Why won’t you let women speak about changed to laws that involve our rights? If you’re just trying to live your own life, why do you have to take away valuable and sometimes life saving resources from women just because you’re not included?

Why do you constantly harass lesbians because our innate sexuality doesn’t include males? Why do you advocate for the social and medical transition of gay gender-nonconforming children? Why do you support an ideology that validates gender roles, the tool of women’s oppression?

Why do you call for the violent treatment of women who don’t agree with you? Why do you threaten us with death and rape? Why do you physically and sexually assault women for their dissenting opinions? Why do you murder us when we won’t have sex with you?

Why is it that so many transwomen are sex pests? Why do I feel like I hear about another pedo transwoman every other day? Why are the majority of transwomen’s crimes of a sexual nature and perpetrated against women and children?

Why is it that trans people show up to protests with painted weapons and masks covering their faces? Why are women removed from public spaces when we express that we don’t believe in gender? Why is stating the dictionary definition of woman treated as a hate crime? Why are women taken into police custody or questioned by police for using the “wrong” pronouns online while transwomen can talk about ripping out our uteruses and raping us with no consecenques?

Time for trans people to wake up to the fact that their advocacy organizations have declared women’s rights to be anti-trans. The war on women goes on and on and if you do not want to be viewed by half the human population as a misogynist then you had best rein in your spokespersons.

Stop making people feel bad for detransitioning. It shouldn’t become a common thing, but sometimes people make mistakes. A lot of people who detransition genuinely thought what they are experiencing was dysphoria. And to find out it was actually trauma, or dysmorphia, or whatever else can be very damaging to ones mental health.

Imagine believing for years you are trans. You take hormones, go through surgeries, come out to your loved ones, and possibly lose some. And then you begin to feel worse? Get actual dysphoria? Awful. Having to listen to family members talk about how they KNEW it was just a phase? Awful.

Being mad at detransitioners isn’t going to help them. But giving them support just might.

I think OP means detransition shouldn’t be a common thing. From one perspective that could mean there shouldn’t be this many people mistakenly being transitioned cause that’s a bad thing to have happen. How and why that happens, however, is a different argument with many different views.

Personally I think a lot of it has to do with how similar things relating to trauma, and other disorders like body dysmorphia can feel like sex dysphoria.

People confuse just hating the size of their chest, or their curves as dysphoria, when really it could just be one of the things previously mentioned.

The fact that there’s this mentality people have where they push the idea being cis is bad isn’t helpful either. This has led many young, impressionable people feeling like they HAVE to be trans to be accepted. I absolutely would not be surprised if there are people who have gone through transition because of this, and then went on to detransition.

I’d submit that sex dysphoria is the same as any other body dysmorphia and stems from psychological issues or some kind of trauma. There’s also the problem that the trans community’s ideological stance appears to be: if you think you’re trans, you’re trans. Transition is the only path forward. There’s no other treatment. Denying this is conversion therapy. No on can question this or they’re a bigot. 

So, from your stance, how would you suggest false positives for dysphoria and people getting transtions that shouldn’t be get prevented?

I’d have to disagree that sex dysphoria stems from trauma/psychological issues. Our understanding of it currently is that it’s neurological, and has to do with sexual dimorphism (don’t know if I spelled that correctly) of the brain.

And honestly, we will never 100% be able to stop people who don’t need to transition from doing so. Misdiagnosis happens, and some people go out of their way to lie about having dysphoria in the first place.

I think there should be a required amount of therapy one should go through to be diagnosed (which it is in a lot of places already, this only applies to places in America specifically that do not require a diagnosis to be given treatment.)

There’s also a lot of issues within the community that should be resolved. (i.e: the constant hatred towards cis people, the idea that if you don’t medically transition you’re ‘invalid’.)

My stance is that transition only enables the symptoms of a psychological issue. After all, if there is no significant functional difference between the female and male brain (and evidence suggests there isn’t) that argument falls apart. Furthermore, the idea that someone can be born with a brain that is somehow the opposite sex as the rest of them isn’t based on anything scientific. All transition practices are medically unnecessary and is preying upon the mentally ill.

Your community would also call having any sorts of requirements or diagnositc criteria “gatekeeping”. The only goal seems to be allowing anyone to have these drugs and surgeries on demand and dismissing any concerns or arguments that might prevent that.

As someone who teaches 3-5 year old children, I can promise you gender is 100% socially constructed.

I have a four year old boy in my class who wears dresses and some of the children assume this makes him a girl. I am constantly telling these developing minds that no, wearing a dress doesn’t make someone a girl. He is a boy who likes dresses and that’s okay. And guess what? They get it.

When I say the same thing to some of my “progressive” friends, guess what? They don’t.

When I shaved my head as a teen, my 4 year-old cousin was convinced I had turned into a boy, asked me what my new boy name was, asked what would happen if she cut her own hair, and I had to explain to her several times that no, girls can’t become boys, and having (or wanting) short hair doesn’t make you a boy. She was fine with the explanation, but she just kept forgetting. And yet we have adults, including psychologists and medical professionals, insisting that toddlers are right when they say they’re the opposite sex and instead of gently explaining to them how these things work (several times if necessary) their parents should “respect” and “support” their “transgender identity” i.e. accept that their 4-year-old knows better and start treating them as the sex they are convinced they are.

As someone who works with children anywhere from infants to preschoolers, I can promise you that kids this age have no real concept of gender in a tangable way. They may know that boys and girls are different in their appearance but that’s about it. Kids just like to experiment with toys and clothing, especially around ages 3-4, they start wanting to play around with their style as a form of independence.

Its very rare that a child this young exhibits actual gender dysphoria. Very very rare.

We need to start acknowledging these facts and stop fucking up our children.

Dr Michael Biggs, an associate professor at Oxford’s Department of Sociology claims the Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) has been giving puberty blocking hormones to children, without robust evidence as to the long-term effects.

It comes after the governor of the clinic based in London with the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust resigned last month in protest at its “blinkered” response to doctors who had raised the alarm about “woefully inadequate” care. There is also another centre in Leeds.

Declaring the trial a success, the clinic has continued to treat over a thousand children with the hormones but Dr Biggs’ research suggests that after a year of treatment “a significant increase” was found in patients who had been born female self-reporting to staff that they “deliberately try to hurt or kill myself”.

Parents also reported “a significant increase in behavioural and emotional problems” and a “significant decrease in physical wellbeing” in children born female, he claims. According to his research, there was no positive impact on “the experience of gender dysphoria”, the diagnosis given to those who are described as feeling intensely uncomfortable with their biological sex.

Dr Biggs said: “Puberty blockers exacerbated gender dysphoria. Yet the study has been used to justify rolling out this drug regime to several hundred children aged under 16.”
