yeah I’m totally fine I just need to set myself on fire

bpd: ….hey buddy….u doing awful good there….what a shame if someone were to…. *side eye* ruin it
While cleaning out my room I found a paper that my therapist gave me some time ago to deal with obsessive and intrusive thoughts. Sorry the paper is a little crinkled and stained, but I figured I’d post it in hopes that it will help someone like it helped me.
Here it is again with text for anyone who can’t see the picture
That thought isn’t helpful right now.
Now is not the time to think about it. I can think about it later.
This is irrational. I’m going to let it go.
I won’t argue with an irrational thought.
This is not an emergency. I can slow down and think clearly about what I need.
This feels threatening and urgent, but it really isn’t.
I don’t have to be perfect to be OK.
I don’t have to figure out this question. The best thing to do is just drop it.
It’s OK to make mistakes.
I already know from my past experiences that these fears are irrational.
I have to take risks in order to be free. I’m willing to take this risk.
It’s OK that I just had that thought/image, and it doesn’t mean anything. I don’t have to pay attention to it.
I’m ready to move on now.
I can handle being wrong.
I don’t have to suffer like this. I deserve to feel comfortable.
That’s not my responsibility.
That’s not my problem.
I’ve done the best I can.
It’s good practice to let go of this worry. I want to practice.
Isn’t it funny how no one notices warning signs? And then they wonder “How did I not notice?” But they always said they were “too busy” to look up anything related to your problem and never noticed the casual farewells that actually meant forever.
I don’t really get this post. Do you want to blame and guilt trip people whose loved ones have committed suicide? Do you think it’s better for people to live under constant stress and fear of someone killing themselves and to always interpret casual things as last goodbyes? It is heartwrenching to be afraid every time someone doesn’t answer the phone. You can criticize people for not helping at all but you can’t blame people for wanting to believe that everything’s alright because that fear is paralyzing.
(TW: Suicide/Suicidal Ideation)
I’m sorry… It wasn’t my intention to guilt trip anyone. I just feel that if the person is aware that someone you know is struggling with a mental illness, then it would help a lot and they will be able to notice things when the person is having a hard time because of their mental illness. Because otherwise, how are you supposed to know what’s going on? Kind of like someone who has diabetes. You won’t know if their sugar levels have dropped or risen if you don’t know what signs to look for.
I realize that it sounds like I’m saying that you should make sure every goodbye is just a “see you later” and not “I’m going to kill myself,” but I meant that some of the warning signs in regards to being suicidal are:
Feel hopeless, helpless, worthless.
Feel that life is not worth living or see no reason for living.
Have no sense of a life purpose.
Have feelings of desperation, and say that there’s no solution to their problems.
Talk about feeling trapped – like there is no way out of a situation
And sometimes when these things are mentioned, they can be said casually or even as a joke (since it’s a very heavy topic and they might not want to feel like they’re burdening others).
But as I said before, these signs would be easier to recognize if people knew what to look for. Not that they have to live in constant fear that it will happen, but if mentioned they will have a greater chance to catch it.
I posted this because of things said to me like, “I have my own issues to deal with” when I needed someone. And when things took a turn for the worse, people still didn’t notice and I couldn’t rely on anyone either because they would judge me. It was only until I attempted suicide that people began to wonder what went wrong. Thankfully, they decided to take it more seriously afterward and contribute to my recovery.
But if you lost a friend or a loved one due to suicide, I’m really sorry. It’s a really horrible and terrifying experience. I wouldn’t wish for anyone to go through it.

Why does asking someone to look up on how to support me and know what to do/say to me mean I’m trying to “change” them? Why does it mean I’m trying to “manipulate” them?
Like, no. I’m not trying to do that. I just want you to understand and help me so that I can recover.
But apparently I can’t do that and “have to deal with things just like the rest of [us]” because “everyone has problems” and “[you’re] no exception.”
And I don’t know how to argue with that because I absolutely suck at defending myself and end up just agreeing with everything because I just figure that everything is all my fault anyway.

Coping methods for depersonalization/derealization:
1. DO NOT THINK ABOUT IT. For many people, myself included, this is the hardest part because it becomes almost an obsession, but not thinking about your disorder is the key to getting over it. Once you’re able to stop thinking about it and distract yourself, you won’t notice how unreal you and the world around you feel. Draw, think of song lyrics, write, study. Anything to take your mind off things.
2. If you have to, and the people around you know about your disorder, tell them to avoid saying your name. Sometimes this can be very triggering to people with DPD/DRD. Avoid mirrors if you can/have to. They are a trigger. These methods are both very extreme, but they may help in a serious attack.
3. Write a reminder on your hand that you are real, you are here, and you are you. It’s comforting, if anything else.
4. Listen to music.
5. Touch anything around you, it will help confirm that this is reality.
If you need anything, any support, or somebody to talk to, my ask box is always open!
Depersonalization Disorder is a dissociative disorder where the sufferer feels as though they are watching themselves from the outside in and don’t have any control over what they think, say, or do. But people with this disorder don’t lose their grasp on reality and know things might not be as they appear, thus meaning Depersonalization Disorder isn’t related to psychosis.
Sleep deprivation, stress, and the use of certain drugs can cause feeling of depersonalization thus making it a somewhat common occurrence. However, if these feelings are persistent-lasting for several weeks or months-or interferes with your daily life then you might have Depersonalization Disorder.
Symptoms:
Feeling detached form your mind or body or like you are observeing yourslef from the outsde
Perceives objects as being a different size or shape than what they really are
Feeling yo aren’t in control of your actions
Feeling emotionally detached from people you care about
Numbing of senses or responses to reality
Feeling as though you are in a dream or movie

depersonalization disorder is honestly the worst thing i can imagine i would never wish it on anyone okay if you think its cool to disconnect and feel like you’re not your own body because it’s a different point of view you’re wrong okay youre fucking wrong
I've had depersonlization and derealization disorder for about a year and a half now. I've had 5 therapists within that year. But I've closed my case as they weren't helping me. They didn't understand my disorders and I felt uncomfortable talking about it. I think when I did speak about it to them it helped a lot. I really want a new therapist but I don't know how to go about getting another one. I especially don't want another who doesn't understand. I really don't know what to do
Hey anon, I would recommend searching for someone in your area who specializes in the disorder that you have. Your primary care doctor might be able to give you a referral for this. I’m also going to give you some links on finding a therapist.

It’s nearly impossible to make another person understand that when you look in the mirror, you know from experience that it’s your face you see, but it still doesn’t feel like yours.
That you clearly recognize your family and remember myriad facts about them, but they still don’t feel real nor do they feel like yours.
That you are utterly astounded when you happen to remember that life is real, that you really exist, and that this isn’t the dream it feels like it is.
That sometimes you’re so astounded that you sit for minutes at a time, just watching what you know to be your hand open and close and move about.
That you don’t mean to seem callous, but that it’s hard to be anything but apathetic when none of it feels real.
That you live your life in autopilot, feeling like your body and mouth move independently from you.
That you seldom feel in control of yourself.
That for the longest time, you felt like you were losing your mind.
That you were ashamed and afraid.
That the greatest relief of your life came when you discovered at long last that you weren’t alone, that this thing that haunted you day in and day out had a name, and that you weren’t crazy.
That you cried in happiness at this enlightenment.
That suddenly the last ten years of your life finally made sense.
That this knowledge somehow made it easier to cope with the damnable thing itself.
That you were no longer ashamed to talk about it or to seek help for it.
And that suddenly you saw a light at the end of the tunnel that you couldn’t have before imagined: the possibility of, through treatment, finally feeling real again.
Depersonalization Tip
Don’t pull an all nighter if you have it chronically. It makes it so much worse. I just slept from 9 AM to 7PM and now my sleep schedule is screwed up even more and I’m more dissociated than I have ever been before
