Hello Wastelanders. Wasteland headcanons here. You can call me Attack, WHC, or whatever future titles I get.

I Headcanon That...
Vault 111 had more than just a base cryogenic mixture. Some had various additives. Some were different than others.
Some were given frozen FeV reserves, others direct radioactive isotopes. And who knows what else. It's almost a good thing most didn't survive

I headcanon that...
Perks and other abilities are all canon and possible to anyone in the wasteland, the biggest reason is that radiation in fallout is different than radiation in our world and much like how strontium makes our bones denser and stronger. They have other neo-biological like elements that can vastly alter a person's body.
I headcanon that...
Synthetic humans stem from prewar tech but was kept very secret. The Gary vault shows we had very rudimentary cloning tech and with the nuka world synthesis machine for gatorclaw we have confirmed clones with a stable structure. Gen 3 synths are just a perfection of prewar tech.

Major parts of the world are relatively unaffected by the bombings. Some countries even exist nearly the same as before, but with Major society shifts now that Major production superpowers have been destroyed. And the biggest issue is Major suppliers being taken out leaving places reliant on trade scrambling just like somewhere bombed.

There was knowledge of prewar ghouls. There's been plenty of cases of people willingly subjecting themselves prewar to gain immortality. It was hidden away but with how common nuclear radiation is in literally everything a simple car crash could likely make one. How much of an open secret do we think it was?

The oceans of the world are most polluted at the edges and at the most deepest places.
With the existence of ghoul animals and the reveal of a ghoul Whale. Runoff of Fev and Radiation, plus other unnatural pollutants has created monstrosities under the waves we can only barely imagine. It seems they are either too sparse or avoid humans because it seems they don't bother any ships sailing back and forth.

The Children of Atom with the resistance, is a natural progression and mutation of the ghoul gene. Those who have the gene but express it later, allowing them to still have families and children.
They slowly are creating an offshoot of humanity that is highly resistant, if not immune, to the effects of radiation. Possibly expedited with a theoretical amount of airborne FEV in trace amounts. Though I have my doubts the skies of the world has any FEV.
I Headcanon That...
My main character is a synth. Jeffrey Bojangles, an escaped synth helping other synths escape and find new life. He knows he's a synth.
He's a Courser. Well was, an ex courser. He is wanted by the Brotherhood of Steel and Institute. He knows how to fight and he does with ruthless efficiency.
He uses his special modded explosive slug-buckshot hybrid. Otherwise he utilized various snipers and rifles for every occasion. He doesn't dip into energy weapons often. And when it comes to hand to hand he uses a small combat knife, utilizing his Courser training and talents he often comes out not only the winner but often unharmed.
I headcanon that...
Ghoulism is mildly contagious and you have a higher chance of becoming a ghoul if you're a cannibal.
Something about the consumption of the flesh of your own increases the likelihood of getting the effects of the genes of becoming a ghoul. Maybe it's those genes that influence the cannibalism.
Unfortunately most ghouls born from human steak consumption go feral quickly. The hunger quickly overwhelming the human element.
I Headcanon That...
FeV is highly reactive and as a virus mutates and shifts often. Often when it contacts radiation, other strains of FeV or even other countries versions of their super drug has left the world in a rapidly growing and adaptive planet.
The reason why the overall biodiversity of the planet is so small now is FeV will either mutate you into something unrecognizable or many things forced themselves to mutate into something so similar the "species" differences is null. Much like the mirelurk being a mix of multiple different sea crustaceans.
This would help explain the Children of Atom, the Vampires, and how various small secular communities of people and animals never face issues of inbreeding.

I hadn't thought of that. I always knew that synths were an extension of prewar, but no so much the direct reason of. To think that people in the Institute saw all the prewar notes and equipment and realized it to its full potential.
It's nuts to really think about
The missing component from "Gary" to "Curie" may just be the synth component. The little bit of tech to give them a true mind.
