Anyway here is my take:

I think trying to make a movie out of The Odyssey (not the story of Odysseus, but The Odyssey as in the poem) is a bit of a doomed endeavour as the structure of The Odyssey simply does not jive with the structure of the Hollywood movie

I think you COULD make a good movie out of the odyssey but would need to engage w the fact that it's a work which veers back and forth between fantasy and realism; that it's a story told out of chronogical order; and also that it is a Trickster Hero story first and foremost. It is perhaps best done as a comedy but with the occasional shocking swerve into graphic violence.

Here are my opinions:

The Odyssey should be a musical but ☝️only some of the time. When Odysseus is narrating? Musical. Penelope and Telemachus on Ithaca? 🙅‍♀️

Odysseus can break the fourth wall during the parts where he's narrating.

Movie opens with Odysseus inside Charybdis, whirling around and around clinging to a tiny raft and screaming. *Freeze frame* yeah, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got here.

#but more to the point of the original post: i wish moviegoing audiences were more skeptical of the ability of Hollywood#to adapt any and everything#like. i still think about how jeff smith's bone has floated around in development hell over several different iterations for DECADES#and like. HONESTLY? good. it doesnt need to be anything other than a comic.

this is a bit tangential but. yeah. it is straight up hollywood propaganda i think. everything must eventually become a hollywood movie. books must become hollywood movies. comics must become hollywood movies. successful movies from other countries must become hollywood movies. & ur mainstream hollywood movie is a pretty narrow category of what a movie can be.

Thinking about it, Durge is the best non-Force user for terrifying Barriss. She had a bad experience with worms? Here’s a guy made entirely of worms. Claustrophobic due to being repeatedly buried alive? If he runs out of weapons he’ll try to drag foes into his body (made of worms) and crush/suffocate them. The guy is a walking embodiment of her fears. They even both appear in the 2003 Clone Wars series, so they’ve got depictions in the same medium and art style.

CX Shadow Assassin, circa 3 BBY

Under the employ and control of an Imperial scientist hellbent on creating the Empire’s most elite soldier, a shadow clone going by the designation CX-86 is responsible for a history of sabotage, espionage, and deaths spanning over a decade after the Clone Wars’ end.

Though originally an early iteration of the first reconditioned clone assassins, CX-86 proved to be a cut above the rest and outpaced everything the CX program had to offer. Unstoppable on any terrain, an expert marksman and close-quarters combatant, he does not rest until his quarry has been hunted down and his mission has been executed.

CX-86 is a formidable foe enhanced by cybernetics and the life-weaving experiments of the mad scientist in charge of his craft and creation, revitalized and improved upon as the years continue and parts of his body inevitably begin to fail. The assassin’s handler continues to perfect the closest to a killing machine a human can be while retaining complete control over the assassin’s actions.

This harbinger of death seems to exist only in whispers, but they are ones that travel all the way from the Deep Core to Wild Space, alongside the promise that one’s fate is sealed the moment his sights are set on them.
