“Hello?” Crepus shouted into the storm, the downpour and lightning easily overpowering him. “Hello! Is anyone else out there?!” 

The small child in his arms didn’t react as the read-headed man hefted him up higher, setting the child on his hip. Barely clinging to his consciousness as exhausted and fatigue clawed at him. 

Crepus could feel how feverish he was even now. The boy was racked with shivers. Archons knew how long he’d been out there by the time Crepus happened to notice him. 

“Let’s get you inside and warmed up and then we’ll find your parents. Yeah?” Crepus shouted over the rain as he tucked his coat further over the child’s head. Keeping the rain off him as best as he could with the wind trying to yank the cloth off the both of their heads. 

The child said nothing. His visible eye dull and his fingers pale with cold as the clutches at the man’s chest. It was a haunted expression. One that spoke of horrors no child should know. 

Even as Crepus whispered reassurances and promises of finding the boy’s family, the feeling in his chest knew that they were only lies.

 As did the child in his arms.

Crepus Week Day 2: Forests/Myths & Legends

I said I’d do good art today. Have some Satyr Crepus and Diluc plus Minotaur Kaeya or something like that.

It wasn’t unusual for Crepus to tuck his boys into bed with a bedtime story. Nor was it unusual for the eldest child to mischievously grin and squirm around demanding for more stories or give some other attempt to keep Crepus there longer in order to stay up even a second longer than normal. 

“I’ve already told your three stories, Diluc,” Crepus had to bite back his smile in an attempt to be stern. “It is bedtime.” 

“But—!” The child’s little red eyes darted around the room as though to find the excuse he needed to keep his father there and the light turned on. “But you haven’t had a story yet!”

“I haven’t had a story?” Crepus couldn’t bite back the smile anymore. “And who is to read me MY bedtime story? Surely not Adelinde or Elzer.”

“We are!” Diluc proclaimed loudly, dragging the other boy into his shenanigans. 

The little blunette’s free eye popped open, from under the duvet he was snuggled under. A surprised squeak given. 

“Oh you two, eh?” Crepus gently nudged the smaller child with his shoulder in a loving way and causing the timid boy to poke his head out from the covers. 

“Well, I can if Kaeya doesn’t want to,” ,Diluc grinned in triumph. Knowing he’d won himself a few extra minutes. 

Kaeya didn’t deny that so the redheaded child continued. 

 “Well this is a story about me and my best friend! Can you guess who that is?” Diluc kicked his legs back behind him excitedly.  Waiting expectantly for an answer. 

“Your pet turtle?” Kaeya’s soft guess came. An uncertain thing forced out of him by Diluc’s bright-eyed stare. 

Crepus shifted his arm closer the younger, correcting his answer. “Kaeya?” 

“Of course it’s Kaeya. Silly!” Diluc rolled his eyes and grinned. “Sir Lance is cool but Kaeya is my best friend now!”

Kaeya squeaked again. His eye shining brightly under the safety of the cover. Crepus wrapped his arm around him. Squeezing him. 

“Alright. I’ve got to know,” he smiled. “So what is this story about my two favorite boys?” 

Diluc earned his extra minutes before bed that night. In more ways than one in Crepus’ mind and Kaeya’s smile.

Crepus could feel the soft gentle traces a tiny palm rubbed over his hand, as Kaeya’s tiny fingers explored his own. They swirled around the freckles and occasional scar, as though to study them and commit all to memory.

Every now and again, the boy would pause and the cloth of the pillow would rustle as he glanced up at his father whose arms were wrapped protectively wrapped around him. As though to make sure his careful movements weren’t disturbing the other in a much more considerable fashion than his eldest probably would have executed.

Knowing diluc, he probably would have started an impromptu wrestling match, causing Crepus to wake up in a small choke hold first thing in the morning.

As it were, crepus kept his eyes closed and his breathing deep and even. Not quite ready to acknowledge he wasn’t actually asleep. Giving Kaeya the opportunity to relax and rest after a long night of nightmares.

They were the reason the child had wound up by Crepus’ side in the middle of the night. It wasn’t uncommon for Kaeya to end up in either his room or Diluc’s. However, last night had been the first time Kaeya had sought Crepus out for comfort rather than Crepus finding the boy hyperventilating in his own bed or Diluc dragging Kaeya to him.

Kaeya sighed softly as he gently pressed his palm flat against Crepus’. The tiny thing soft and cool. The boy relaxed further into his side. Burrowing there like a tiny kitten into its mother’s embrace.

Only to startle a second later when the sound of tiny bare feet slapping against the wood floor was the only warning either of them got before the other member of their little family launched himself onto the bed and Crepus’s side like a tiny cannon ball.

“Good morning!” Diluc slid over Crepus’ arm. Reaching down to pat his brother’s head.

Crepus creaked an eye open. Watching his two boys.
