I like how Rafa's tank is coming along~
Rafa hates this snail in particular!!
The flow was a little too much in Rafa's new tank, so I removed the nozzle, and it's much better! Now he is happily swimming around and enjoying his new home~
He has even figured out a few new favourite spots to rest!
He likes to hang out in the vallisneria! I hope he will like it even more once it has grown out!
He also likes the spot between the cryptocoryne and the rock.
Peekaboo from under the Java fern~~!
Just came back from the pet store, and they had these beauties in. I've been wanting another angel so bad since my beloved Gabriel passed away. I was thinking of getting two and was all ready to ask an employee for assistance when I saw the "Fish closed today" sign. 💔💔💔
The new view from my bed~😍
Finally finished Rafa's tank!!
When I first put him in, I thought he was going to hide straight away. Instead, he had a look around and took in his new home~
First thing he noticed is that the water moves! It doesn't stay nearly stagnant, like in his old tank with the crappy filtration.
The flow might be a little strong for him at the moment, but I'm hoping that once he gets used to it, he will have an easier time swimming. If not, I'll figure out some way to reduce the flow.
As Rafa checked out around the small rock, I went to check on his roommates.
His biggest roommate, a ramshorn snail, was checking out one of the anubias on the largest rock.
His second roommate was telling Rafa to move his heavy gun out of the way! "Move! I'm coming through!!" It said!
Love this new tank so far! It's very nice, and I'm hoping Rafa ends up liking it as much as I do~!
New tank! Doing a leak test before scaping!
Moving my betta Rafa into here. I hope he likes it when I'm all done!!
I looked out the window this morning and saw the snowdrops and the gentle rain falling. I had to go out and take a picture of the first flowers of spring~
Look at that cute face and big yawn! We had a pretty stormy night the other night, and I thought I heard a squirrel come home around 2am. Woke up to feed my kitties at 6am, and sure enough, there was a squirrel home! Qhuinn came home in the middle of the night! Poor baby must've lost his drey in the high winds. He has a safe place to stay until he rebuilds, I have no problem with him crashing at home until he builds a new house~ He seemed to really like that bed too! Lots of nice warm fleece in there for him~
Qhuinn is not a pet! He is a squirrel I rehabbed from a baby with the guidance of some wildlife rehabbers I know. He was released 3 years ago and spends the majority of his time outside in the trees. He usually visits once a day for a treat, some water, and a bit of relaxation before he heads back out. He only sleeps at home in emergencies when something happens to his usual sleeping spot outside, and he chooses to come here, I dont bring him in.
Introducing Rafa!! He is a pretty chill and laid-back dude! A good eater, too, but not a piggy!
Finnley reversing into his log!
It's been a while since I posted. Sorry for not updating at all! I had some health issues and didn't have the energy to keep on top of posting as well as taking care of aquariums and other responsibilities. I cut down the number of my aquariums to just 2. A 5 gallon betta tank, and my favourite 40gal long. My other 40gal sprung a leak, so that had to be torn down, and everyone moved into this tank. I haven't had the energy or money to repair it, so it's just been sitting there on its stand empty. I want to get a better filter for it before I set it up again anyways, the ones I had on it were no good.
But anyways, here's some little shots of the 40gal long tonight!
I moved some rocks around since the last time I posted, opened it up more for the corydoras and Finnley. They seem to like it much more! I need to get some more sand to spread around near the log as it seems to have all migrated to the right side of the tank. I think Finnley is probably to blame for that!
Finnley still loves his log! He spends much of his time in or around it! He is an old boy and one of the first fish I started the hobby with! I'm happy he is still here!
The endlers are still here as well! They were in my standard 40gal until it sprung a leak. I think they much prefer this tank, however!
Every time I think, "I dont think I have any shrimp left, it's been months since I last saw one," the very next day I end up spotting some. Here are two amanos hanging out on some driftwood~
I got some footage of dinner time as well! Here are the first drops of food going in!
Finnley noticed and goes for it, fins all spread in excitement~!
Corys activate!!! Even a loach has appeared!
Oh boy, do I ever have a lot of corys 😵
It's time for the finer food for the endlers! Enjoy, guys!!
Benjamin found my Xmas muffins!!
I made another thing. Betta is based on one of my previous bettas named Prince.
Mikhail is checking out the camera~!
Poor Razvan has an injury along the bottom of his jaw. It's been healing over the past couple of days, and so far, there are no signs of infection. I don't know how he got the injury as the driftwood in this tank isn't sharp. The only thing I can think of is maybe he got spooked and bashed himself against the dragon stone somehow 🤷♀️
Hopefully, he will heal up just fine. He is still eating and acting normal, so that's a good sign~!
So, since this is Benjamin and Qhuinn's first winter outside, I was hoping for a gentle introduction to the season. Nope. Three days of frigid winds and heavy snowsqualls that dumped a good 3 feet of snow on us. Neither one of the boys showed up during those three days, so of course, Mama worried. I hoped they were dry and warm and had plenty of food stored in their dray. Well, once the weather broke, I saw one of my boys outside.
He looked so cold in the blowing snow and cold wind! But I had to remind myself that they've adapted to our climate, so he is fine.
He stayed up in the tree for a while, surveying the area. I suppose he was wary because it looks different in the snow.
Eventually, he came down from the tree and approached the door where him and his brother enter the house.
He snuffled around the door for a second and then sat in the bush beside the door. He never came in, though. He waited until the next day before he was brave enough for that. Good thing we had a bunch of nuts for him!
Qhuinn and Benjamin are not pets. They were found in a busy parking lot during a rain storm when they were only 4 weeks old and hadn't even opened their eyes yet. We suspect they had fallen out of a barely used vehicle that a mama squirrel made a nest in, as there were no trees in the area as it's a big parking lot. We were in contact with wildlife rehabbers and were given guidance from them as we raised them. They were both released in the spring of 2024 and have been doing great. They still come home to visit and have treats, but they spend most of their days outside doing squirrelly squirrel things~
