GM MGL/MOLAB, 1964. Developed by General Motors for NASA as a possible all-terrain extra terrestrial exploration laboratory. The MOLAB was powered by a modified Corvair flat 6 engine. It could accommodate a pair of astronauts for up to two weeks, though modifications would also allow the MOLAB to handle three astronauts for shorter periods or travel further afield by carrying fewer supplies. NASA used MOLAB for seven years, developing moon suits for the Apollo astronauts, who trained in and drove MOLAB in the New Mexico desert. It was loaned to the U.S. Geological Survey and was used by them for mapping mineral deposits and taking soil samples. It also appeared in the dystopian sci-fi movie Ravagers (1979).
