i keep thinking i’m done but i keep getting annoyed
if some people liked tvl fine i don’t actually care someone else’s enjoyment doesnt affect me
if they want to debate the criticisms then whatever but i’m sick of these bad faith interpretations of people’s valid opinions on what the show did not do well
criticism: “i think a lot of the most graphic violence this season concentrated on poc and let the white protagonists off comparatively easy. this seems like an active choice by the writers.”
response i’ve seen multiple times: “oh my god it’s a gothic horror. there’s supposed to be violence. it’s a violent show. S1&2 were violent too!”
criticism: “i think the show has a clear distinction in how it treats m/f and same sex intimacy to the detriment of the latter.”
genuine response: “just watch heated rivalry if you want gay porn. you’re being misogynistic and biphobic.”
criticism: “there’s a lot of cruelty towards the characters of colour in ways that don’t seem to progress their plot nor characterisation. they seem to have to apologise for it too when the white protagonist gets absolution from wrong-doing.”
response: go watch heart stopper if you can’t handle a horror show where bad things happen.
i could go on. if they disagree with the criticisms then they should debate what the actual criticism is instead of resorting to straw men arguments
