5. Do they have any tattoos? Which ones and why? If they have tattoos, do they want more? C: Ceron of course has the Wayfarer's symbol on his right wrist, unsurprisingly he got it as soon as he could. His second tattoo is ouroboros style sea dragon on his upper left arm. He had gotten this one to represent where he came from, and that even if his previous life fell apart, he built a new one here with the order. Ironically, it has been his saving grace in his lowest moments since the order fell, reminding him that no matter how many times he gets torn down, he can grow anew. He would most likely get more, but is unsure of what to get next, or when for that matter. A: His first of two tattoos is a stylized band of lines on his upper right arm, simple but appealing. Adrian's second tattoo is the opposite however. Wrapping around his entire left arm is a blue sea dragon, framed with pink flowers. His reason for getting his was simply because he liked the idea of how it would look. He of course has plans for more tattoos, it's just a matter of deciding on which one to get next. D: Derrick's first tattoo was the wayfarer symbol on his right wrist, while his second is the massive one on his back. It is a fully black detailed depiction of the four winged Thunderbird from his desert homeland, with which he still misses at times. He isn't opposed to getting more tattoos, but prefers ones that would have meaning to him, which he currently does not have any in mind. E: Elaii has two tattoos. One is the Wayfarer symbol on the inside of his right wrist, and the other is the band of lines around his upper right arm. He chose the Wayfarer symbol because the order means so much to him, he wants to make sure he carries it with him no matter wear he goes or how far. As for the band of lines, he mostly got it as his first tattoo to see how he liked them. He enjoys them, but currently doesn't have any others in mind to add onto his body. T: Titus' first tattoo was the band of lines on his upper right arm, and the second is of a twisting sea dragon on his upper left arm. He fully intends to cover much of his body is all sorts of tattoos, however he hasn't had the time or the money for them for a while now. S: Siveril's first tattoo is a simple sun on the inside of his left wrist, his vague reasoning for getting it being that he wanted to recall where he came from vs where he was now. His other tattoo is of a swooping raven on the back of his right shoulder. He wanted this tattoo partially because of the intelligence the birds are known for, but also because he finds them somewhat fascinating.

10. What’s their relationship with their family? Were they shunned for not having magic? C: Ceron was barely considered family at best, and at worst completely ignored. He often didn't learn things until after they had already been decided, even when it came to subjects relating to him. The same was true when they sold him to the order, as he didn't learn of this until he was already being sent off on a ship towards the spire. Largely out of spite, and partially to take advantage of their name, he kept his family name. A: Being born on the streets, Adrian knew nothing of his possible past family. The closest thing he had to family growing up were the others roaming the streets, however they avoided and insulted him at every turn. As such, he did end up taking on Amali's last name of Sero. D: Derrick still feels a level of connection to his family back in the desert, but it is less of a familial one, and more of the kind of connection one has with a childhood friend they grew apart from. They were awkward much of the time, but did try their best to care for him. When they gave him to Rindan Cenric, it was due to wanting the best for young Derrick. After joining the Wayfarers and feeling what an actual family is like, he eventually decided to take the last name of Cenric. E: Growing up Elaii was all but chased out of his village in the forest due to his lack of magic, instead being considered an outsider by most. He could never bring himself to hate them, but avoided them at all costs. Even now he struggles to fully accept what happened back then, yet is still unable to hate them. He instead tries to simply forget that period of his life, focusing on work and the people still present for him. T: Titus was forced to grow up as the quiet, obedient shadow of his family. Forced to learn all sorts of things, all the while being gazed upon disdainfully or outright ignored left him craving freedom. After joining the order he immediately adapted to the spire, and began to call it home. Years of bottling his emotions, thoughts, and even personality up though permanently damaged him and left him with a severe temper problem. Up until he finally took on his mentor's last name, he still retained a level of resentment for his family. Now however, he simply acts like they never existed, just like how they treated him. S: Siveril was never close with his family, but they did take care of him at least, though mostly out of duty as his family. He acknowledges that they did try in their own ways, and that he did gain things from being raised by them, but any emotional attachment with them he might have had faded when they handed him over to the Wayfarers with no fight at all.

How about 3 and 20 for the C.A.D.E.T.S ?

3. What do they look like? What was the thought process behind their appearance and design? C: He was the first of the two Melusine Wayfarers I made, and I wanted to have fun with the color options available for them. I thought it'd be fun to give Ceron a cotton candy color scheme to contrast his more gruff personality, so coral skin and blue locs. I was tempted to switch the colors around, but felt that a blue skinned Melusine was too easy to go with. Otherwise I gave him features that were easy to be content with in the picrew I was using; slanted eyes, mole placement on the face, short and rounded eyebrows. I had fun with him! A: He was the second Wayfarer I made, and was sort of an "opposite" to the first, Elaii. Whereas Elaii was more soft and naive in a way, I wanted Adrian to look more mature (in a sense). There wasn't too much logic or thought to it though, it was more of what felt right. He ended up with beige skin, bronze hair, purple eyes, vitiligo patches, and lots of jewelry. D: For Derrick I wanted him to have a sort of striking beauty, so he's a bit more simple than the others. Due to growing up in the dessert he has a natural light brown tone of skin, and his hair is brown and reaches just above his shoulders. He also has a tidy beard, and moles scattered across his body. For the "striking" look to him, I chose a deep orange, bordering red, eyes. He only has the pair of ear piercings, and Derrick is also the shortest of the C.A.D.E.T.S. E: Elaii was the first Wayfarer I made, and probably the one I had the hardest time deciding how I wanted to look. This was mostly because at the time, I was only planning on making one, MAYBE two characters. Obviously that was not the case though. His skin is a warm brown, and is covered in freckles. His long, slightly curly hair is an emerald green. His eyes and crest are a pearl color with a slight blue shine in certain light. I did struggle the most on the design for his crest, and ended up using a picrew to help me decide, leading to how it currently looks. T: For Titus I wasn't very sure what I wanted him to look like either, but I wanted him to stand out compared to the other Wayfarers I had made so far, so he ended up with teal skin with vitiligo patches, white wispy hair growing to above his shoulders, and black eyes to keep the colors more balanced. For the reason of it was the first color I found that looked palatable to me on him, shades of forest greens are what I'd usually picture him wearing. S: Last but not least, Siveril. I don't have a particular reason for the way he looks, I just felt like making him a stereotypical pale redhead was the right move. His eyes are a pale grey, and his fiery hair is about ear length and straight, with thick sideburns that he has to maintain lest they turn into full muttonchops. His clothes are plain in color, and the little jewelry he wears is always simple and silver to match his eyes and complexion better. The only notable choice I intentionally made is the scar on his face that crosses from above his right eyebrow, down and over his right cheek and jaw. It also splits off about 2/3rds down and meets with his upper lip, causing it to curl and leave his teeth in the area to always be visible. I chose this because I genuinely LOVE how this kind of scar looks, and the lip curl it just such a nice visual detail that I couldn't help but add it in.

20. What hobbies do they have? What do they do to unwind? C: Ceron has two hobbies, though he keeps them very private. The more minor of the two is that he adores snakes of every kind, and keeps a couple books on various species of them. If he had the time and space, he would absolutely keep some as pets. His other hobby is art. He doesn't fancy himself a fantastic artist, but he is proud of his skill nonetheless. He sketches mostly animals or nature, and even watercolors them sometimes. He prefers not to do any art of people however. A: Excluding Adrian's more private vices, he enjoys taking care of himself. Giving himself little spa days to unwind and revive himself after rough jobs. He also likes to go on shopping trips when he has the money to spare, getting new accessories, clothes, or trinkets to bring him small moments of joy. These relaxing spa days haven't happened in a very long time however, as he has had far too much on his mind to allow himself to relax. D: In the occasional moment where he does need a breather, Derrick prefers to sit down and meditate, organizing his thoughts and plans and simply breathing for a while. If available, he'll tend to do so outside in nature rather than indoors. E: Elaii rather prefers to unwind by spending time with others over enjoying any sort of hobby alone. The main hobby he does actually have and indulge in is reading, though he usually forces himself to continue working until he has no other choice but to settle down. T: Titus enjoys spending time in nature and around animals, enjoying the quiet calm it offer in place of most other moments of his working life as a Wayfarer. In particular though, he loves to play with and spoil his pet white rat named Doris. He adores her and takes care of her as best he can. S: Siveril spends much of his free time reading, enjoying books of fictional stories and poetry the most. When not actively reading, he instead might make up his own stories within his head. Out of fear that Aeran, or anyone else for that matter, might see them, he refuses to write them down.

Every trans person I’ve ever met irl knows at least one dead trans person and that makes enjoying my dinner feel like a political act. I hate it.

Like I tried to write something profound about this but it didn’t work. It just sucks. I’m just sad about it. I hate that cisgender people don’t get this. That even if you like living when you’re a trans person you still feel the lead dust seeping into your skin and living in your lungs. The smell of depression and murder and suicide becomes a part of you even if you don’t experience those things yourself and it SUCKS

You know what? I’m gonna be bitter for a few seconds and then go back to being chill. Alright?

My first introduction to the trans community was a classmate that attempted suicide before his parents let him transition. Every trans person I’ve ever met either is depressed or has a close trans friend that is depressed. A mutual I loved very much committed suicide last year. One of my followers that I consistently saw being excited on my posts committed suicide. Both of them transgender.

I met a trans woman author three weeks ago. She’s my new hero. She’s middle aged. She made being alive seem like something that comes from being extremely stubborn. She knows a lot of dead people. She’s lost a lot of friends to murder and suicide and seemed to be preparing me to experience the same.

And don’t think I don’t see the trans people around me online being talked down from suicide. Many of them teenagers. What the hell.

I’m not suicidal. I was suicidal for like three days when I was eight and haven’t been since. I love living. I’ve never once been in a situation where I would’ve been murdered for being trans. I still feel this darkness looming over me. Death is in the background of everything in the trans community it seems. Like every living trans person has made a decision to stay alive. Like it’s rebellious. And I hate it. I hate that me loving life is unusual. I hate that nobody around me can see how heavy this is.

I just want us all to grow old. Is that too much to ask? I want people to know that being alive as a trans person shouldn’t be a difficult decision to make. Or even a decision at all. I had to decide I was going to live. That’s a conscious decision I made. A decision that technically goes against societal norms for someone in my situation. How messed up is that?

Alright. Angry bitter Roman out. I’ll try to make sure he doesn’t show up again. Keep living, y’all. Break the system. Being alive as a trans person is the biggest middle finger to the patriarchy that anyone could do. Please. I worry about all my transgender followers constantly. Stay alive. Grow old. I want that for you. I want that for us. Please.
