EXCLUSIVE SINGLE PREMIERE: FLYE FEATURING JAXON POLLARD "RUNAWAY"

Upcoming Port Macquarie (NSW) rapper Flye is continuing to build anticipation for his mixtape that he’s currently working on called ‘Wasted Youth’. The single “Runaway” is the first track to be released in preparation of his mixtape and if the rest of the songs are this good “Wasted Youth” is set to be a hit.

“I did a song with Jaxon a long time ago, when I first started out, and now that things are getting more serious I knew I wanted his voice on something, and I knew his voice would go really well with this song”

SEAN MEANY – THESIDEWAYSMONKEY ART GALLERY

Here at the label new and exciting things fascinate us, so we couldn't help but be extremely curious about Sean Meany’s new project. Music AND Art (photography)? Featuring artists such as Snoop, Mac Miller and Wasky but also locals like Ivan Ooze, Tuka and Illy just to name a few.

It’s looking to be a lovely night, with some tunes being provided by Mikey Hundred as well!

What’s not to love? Instead of us trying to describe it to you, we sat down with Sean and had a chat about it.

So tell us what it’s all about?

Basically it’s a chance for people to come see what I’ve been working on for the last few years. I think people have known I have been working on stuff outside of what has been getting released so now they can finally see a bit of it!

What makes this night different to others, why should people come down?

Wow! Going for the hard questions haha. I think people should come down because I like to think that my work is interesting enough to spend a little bit of time looking at. This is what is interesting about it. It’s basically a series of images of performers during that split second when they let their guard down on stage. Everyone stops performing for a second or two and you get these beautiful fleeting moments of raw emotion and people being who they are. It’s a series of images of performers during that moment when they are no longer performing.

What made you follow photography?

There were 2 really crucial moments in life for me which turned me onto photography. When I was a kid in high school I borrowed my mum’s camera to go take photos of really perfect empty waves and I ended up getting one that I sent to a surf magazine who then in turn ran it in their “homegrown” section. That was the first time I shot photos just to try and take good photos. Then years later after moving more towards video and doing a diploma ‘occupy’ (Melbourne protest) happened and I started to document that project with my camera, it really sparked my love for photography again which wasn’t something I had played with since high school.

What inspired you creatively?

I think a lot of my inspiration comes from just being surrounded by amazing, diverse and inspiring people, being around people who are so different in what they do really just opens me up to the world and lets me drink in as much inspiration from my surroundings as i can.

Finally, if you could describe your art in one sentence what would it be?

That’s really hard! With how broad the images are in this show... I guess it’s all about the things that I love and photograph.

Tides debut studio EP “Breathe” is fire (we also had a chat to him)

 Tides is a Brisbane based musician who has just released a fire of an EP that has been 6 months in the making. The EP is called “Breathe”and was released on the 28th of March .

Tides told us it was supposed to come out earlier but life just got in the way (a place we’ve all been before) “Breathe” is a 5 track journey of the time Tides spent writing, recording and just living life. It has received nothing but great reviews from a plethora of people but mainly us (the most important) because we’re in love.

Tides took some time out of his hectic schedule to have a chat to us about the EP, his musical influences and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Hey welcome to the Label! How are you doing?

Hey! I’m well. Thanks for having me!

Not a problem! We’re so glad to have you. You’ve just released an EP “Breathe” tell us a bit about it for those who haven’t had the chance to hear it yet.

Well! I released my first studio EP “Breathe” on the 28th of March. It had been in the pipeline for about 6 months prior but life just got in the way! It’s 5 tracks and it’s just a journey of my life. I’ve been so excited with the response it has been getting!

That’s awesome. You’ve collabed with Melbourne based rapper “The Frame” on TWO songs! How did that come about?

Haha! Frame and I connected online through mutual friends late last year and I just love his sound. He has a really relaxed chilled vibe and his lyrics really just paint a picture. It was a no brainer for me to try and get him on the release. I hit him up and we just vibed out sending material back and forth. We ended up creating two quality tracks together!

That’s actually really cool. Social media is great that way, do you feel like social media has helped you in a big way?

I definitely think social media has given me access to an audience i don’t think i’d be able to reach without it. The whole concept of putting music online, and then it making its way to not only different states but different countries is something crazy. I’ve had props from America, Canada and New Zealand so it has definitely helped me reach a broader audience in that respect. I definitely think that a live performance has more of an impact with a genuine fan base though. People can hear you online but if they experience it on a personal level it evokes a whole different feeling.

Yep we definitely feel that. What made you choose rap? Did you just fall into it? Or was it always the plan?

I think I definitely fell into rap. I’ve always loved the genre, but it definitely wasn’t the first plan. Music never really was a plan until high school. I was a quieter kid and i’d never been able to speak my mind. I started writing lyrics in a little pad that I actually still have at home. It helped me overcome so many different things in my life and I think rapping just evolved out of it. I guess I found it an outlet and in a way my voice could be heard where it normally wouldn’t be.

Who inspired you to start?

I think musically... I heard an Ed Sheeran song, and I fell in love with lyrics. I know it sounds strange to compare it to rap but in that aspect I was just so fascinated about being able to explore feelings through words and make people listen. People like Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Joel badass, Allday, Savo and local artists like Hype, Louzeik and Tray P also really helped inspire me musically! I had a lot of different inspiration sources.

When you started rapping was it always the same accent? Or did you experiment?

I experimented a lot actually! It’s of course embarrassing to look back on now haha. I had a really low pitch because the only rap I had heard was from that Bombap heavy 808 days.  After hearing artists like Allday, Savo and 360 who all embrace the Australian accent and their own sound I think I relaxed and started just rapping naturally. I’m not a big fan of the Iggy Azalea American accent but I think everyone is entitled to their own sound and that’s what you get with creative license’s!

Lastly, if someone has just clicked on this interview and has no idea who you are or what you’re about, in ONE SENTENCE, what would you say to make them follow your stuff?

Oh wow this is hard! “Hopefully my music can take you to another place, and dream big because anything is possible.”

Jessie J in Sydney: Live Review + Vlog

After 8 hours waiting in the sun and sitting on the wet boardwalk with our makeup melting off our faces, we finally got to experience the queen that is Jessie J at Luna Park’s Big Top. 

 Our day began by waking up at 7 in the morning, catching the train to Milsons Point and then walking to Luna Park. We nearly lost one member of the pack because she fell asleep on a bench on the platform and missed the train. Typical. 

 When we finally got to Luna Park, we couldn’t contain our excitement because as we were walking in, Sofia and I realised we were walking behind Jessie J’s stage crew bringing in all her equipment! We tried to be sneaky but our quiet squeals probably didn’t go unnoticed. Oops. We managed to get there early enough to secure our spots in the line, as numbers 27, 28 and 29. 

We went on a few rides and even found the entrance to the Big Top! We listened in to her sound check for a solid 30 minutes with our ears pressed against the doors and we didn’t want to move incase we missed anything! That’s when we knew this was actually happening and she was going to bless us all with her perfect, angelic voice.   

At 6:30 we were finally led to the entrance to the Big Top. Once we had our tickets scanned, it was every man for themselves, as we all bolted up to the barricade in the hope that we would get to the front. 

 We still can’t believe, with the help of some amazing friends, that we made it front and centre! 

Tim Omaji, or as most of you will know him, Timomatic, was her opening act and damn, can he dance! He opened with a rocky rendition of his song ‘Parachute’ and performed his new single, ‘Something Bout You’.

Finally, it was time for Jessie J. 

Her band started playing the opening chords and she slowly walked to the middle of the stage, wearing a black two-piece underneath a sleeveless jersey, which had ‘SYDNEY’ printed on the front. She personalises each of her jerseys for every city, which was an amazing and thoughtful touch for all her fans around the world. 

‘Ain’t Been Done’ was her first song and she slayed us all with her perfect voice! She continued on with ‘Sexy Lady’ and ‘Domino’ and even gave us a powerful and soulful performance of ‘Loud’, which brought the crowd to tears.

She took off the ‘SYDNEY’ jersey, threw it into the crowd and underneath she had a black two-piece - a bra-let, and high waisted leather shorts. She looked bangin’! 

She continued on with ‘Do it Like a Dude’, ‘Abracadabra’, ‘Seal Me With a Kiss,’ ‘Masterpiece’, ‘Burning Up’ and ‘Sweet Talker’.While she was talking to the crowd, we made a special effort to try and get her attention! Jessie heard us screaming out that it was Sofia’s birthday and when she looked at us we all nearly died… she got the whole crowd to sing happy birthday and that was a moment we will never forget. 

When nobody knew Sofia’s name she stopped us all and sung directly to her… the moment was too much for us to handle.

She didn’t need fancy costumes or dancers because she absolutely smashed it with just her voice and presence alone. 

 We are so proud of how far she has come and can only hope that she tours Australia again soon!

Delora releases new single - ‘Sober’

Delora are a fresh new duo from the UK who make lovely Pop/Indie music. The girls, Lucy and Lauren have just released their highly anticipated new single “Sober” and we seriously can’t get enough! The track is just the perfect indie pop combination and has a catchy melody that will probably be stuck in your head for the rest of the day. We’re absolutely loving "Sober" and can’t wait to see what Delora will bring in 2015.

Last year, Delora played a series of festivals including Isle of Wight and the main stage of Rock The Farm with The Mystery Jets. In August, their debut album premiered with 8tracks and received 20,000 plays within the 48 hours before its release, followed by a sold out release show at Surya in London and a video premiere for the lead track with Grazia and VEVO, with Grazia listing them as one of the top 10 acts to see that week in their physical issue just behind Royal Blood.

So far in 2015, Delora have already been featured on a BBC Introducing playlist with the likes of James Bay and Amber Run as well as an invitation to represent Nike at this years London Fashion Week.

Conor Maynard is finally back with some fresh new music and we are absolutely loving it! Conor has just released his new single “Talking About” and we can’t stop replaying it. 

The track has such a sick summer vibe and we just love this new direction he’s going in - We’re so excited to hear more of what he’s been working on. You can definitely hear that Craig David sound and influence in the song and we’re so happy that they’ve collaborated together!

ELLIE GOULDING COVERS “TAKE ME TO CHURCH” AND IT IS NEK-LEVEL GOODNESS

The ever-so-gorgeous Ellie Goulding has absolutely slayed the interwebs this week with the release of her phenomenal take on Hozier’s ‘it’s so freakin good but I swear to god if I hear it one more time’ tune, “Take Me To Church”. 

Many of Ellie’s covers of our fave songs lurk about the wide world web, but this HAS to be the best. She’s revived the track with an airy, tight, synthy, electronic-type vibe, and her vocals are the bullseye of ‘on point’. Take a listen for yourself:

Juñor just dropped his new single and we're in love (we also had a chat to him)

Juñor is set to make waves this year and The Label can’t wait to see the journey he takes. We could write a long bio on his past achievements but we like to live in the now, and right now he’s just dropped what is set to be one of thehottest tracks of 2015.

weGOTthis is an amazingly unique new track. A different combination of dream like background instrumentals and rap make this song the perfect combination. This is the song you will listen to whilst you’re doing the wave motions outside the car window.

I’m not sure how to describe the track - its mellow but it really isn’t all at the same time and the contrast between makes it a future chart topper!! You guys will have to go give this track some love and I’ll leave the song alone now so it can speak for itself.

 Hey! Welcome to The label, How are you?

Yeah real well! Just recovering from a solid weekend seeing 2chainz & Drake haha.

Ah Future right? Is it a dream of yours to perform at future one day? Or would you prefer a different festival?

Future world be amazing, especially how they’re heading down a more live and diverse path, rather than just being a direct electro competitor to Stereosonic. On a world scale, Coachella; get me there! But on an Australian festival level... Big Day Out was always a childhood dream, but now probably Splendour in the Grass.

Yeah I get that! So you’re a rapper, DJ, Producer and Sound Engineer is there anything you can’t do?

Draw haha. I really really really want to one day be able to put onto paper visually, what I have in my head. In reality, I suck at drawing and always have but I just tell Tyson (graphic designer/rapper in R.E.A.L music) what I think will look cool and he makes it come to life!

I feel that on a spiritual level. Why the music industry? What inspired you to do what you do?

Music has always really been the biggest thing in life for me. I was chatting to Mum and Dad the other day and they said they have videos of me at like 3 years old, standing on top of tables with toy microphones singing John Farnham haha.

I grew up rapping naturally and was known for it as a kid, then took up drumming and spent majority of my high school days playing in jazz/soft rock bands. It wasn’t until I was about eighteen that I balls’d up and decided to take this music thing seriously. I was super nervy because rap wasn’t ‘cool’ a few years back. There was a very high chance everyone would put shit on you for it and that did happen, but I didn’t really care.

What’s your favourite thing about doing music? And what’s your least favourite?

My favourite thing would be probably just free it makes me feel. It is my creative outlet and without it I would just be a big ball of frustration and in a glass case of emotion, haha! My least favourite thing would be how much I care about it. I make weird stuff with heaps of meaning to it, and I know there’s no real wrong way to consume art, but I get super anxious about people consuming mine in a way it wasn’t made to be, if that makes any sense? I get real anxious that people won’t ‘get’ me. Not to mention how fun live shows are when everyone is just wildin’ out.

Yeah! Well what has been your favourite gig? Or something memorable from one you can tell us about?

There’s too much that I can’t speak about! And they’re all the best stories too but Justin Bieber is one of the best dudes! Not even on a music level, just on a dude level that I have ever hung out with. JB is THE MAN. Better dude than most of the guys that I know!

Midnight Juggernauts are straight lords too after their set at Beyond The Valley they had me back in their dressing room to drink up some Captain Morgan’s because they messed with my adventure time bucket hat. That’s the level! They didn’t even see our set, just enjoyed the bucket hat!

That’s awesome! You’re releasing a new single called “We Got This” and it’s quite different! What can your fans expect?

Yeah! I’m pumped for people to hear it. I sing a little bit in it, it’s over a real shuffley, syncopated beat and it’s got a purely instrumental break down. It’s super different and I like it a lot! Haha.

Yeah we loved it! Lastly, in one sentence (it’s v hard I know) imagine someone has clicked o this and has no idea who you are or what you’re about, try to convert them into a fan or to follow your music.

I’m not good at that! I guess that’s why I make music and express so much in there. So i’d probably say: Hey here’s my new single, I hope you like me; let the music speak.

WE HAD A QUICK CHAT TO PEEZO

On Sunday our Entertainment Editor went to Peezo's single launch for "Here Now" FT Cultra and had a chat about his music and stuff. 

The gig was at Shadow Electric and the night started at 7pm but Peezo didn't go on until 10ish. In the mean time we were entertained with Tigerilla, Charlie Threads & Guests.

Overall it was a really great night, and after the gig we had a quick chat to Peezo about collabs, the hip hop industry and his new single.

WATCH: Ed Sheeran gets "Dirrty"

Our fave ginger, Ed Sheeran, recently paid a visit to the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to cover Christina Aguilera's noughties hit, "Dirrty", and oooohhhh myyyy ginger jesusss he KILLED IT!!! From the on point rapping to Ed's velvety smooth vocal outpour (let's pretend that's a thing), there is no aspect of this cover we can fault. THE LABEL'S VALENTINE'S DATE WITH ONE DIRECTION

On Valentine's day, I spent my night getting serenaded to by a little band I like to call One Direction at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium. And let me tell you, I was by no means complaining about my five dates for the evening. Zayn BROUGHT and WON the hair game, Harry's strong and husky voice got me in the mood, Liam showed off his super suave moves, Louis kept cool, calm and collected, and Niall was bursting with love for his "official second home", Melbourne (a.k.a. where I live, a.k.a. me). 

1D had started their On the Road Again stadium tour just a week prior in Sydney, Australia, with the setlist including songs from all four of their studio albums, including their most recent release, "FOUR".

My valentines were on point, and the post concert depression is as real as ever. Check out my vlog of how the night went down below!

Ariana Grande’s apocalyptic last time

It’s finally here! After nearly a months worth of talk surrounding the music video release of her latest single, Ariana Grande triumphs once again!To go with her all around excellent song ‘One Last Time' from her sophomore album ‘My Everything’ here is an amazing music video to match. 

Watch Matt Bennett chase Ariana through the city, weaving through people and climbing staircase upon staircase, Ari eager to spend their last moments with each other as the comet Eurydice threatens to wipe out the human race. 

The music and video go so well together, the song is kind of dream like whilst the music video is high paced and intense - I love it! 

Some fans are speculating thats it’s actually a prequel to her ‘Break Free' music video - which actually kind of makes sense.
