I WON THE THING
Rabid with the lyrics that are being dribbled out, and drunk off @georgeharrisonswife-real 's suggestion on tumblr-dot-gov that Lost Horizon is about 1961 Paris, I blind googled "The Lost Horizon" and "Montmartre" and I present you with this tangle of thorns.
Apparently there is a famous 2007 novel called In the Cafe of Lost Youth by Patrick Modiano. This book takes place in Montmartre, Paris. If you are reading this, I probably don't need to spell out the significance of that location for one Paul McCartney.
The main character of the book *reads* a book called The Lost Horizon, which came out in 1933 and centers on the search for Shangri-la, or paradise. The book is used as a metaphor for the main character's own search for an escape from her mundane life.
So the Lost Horizon is a book about the search for heaven...and we all know where and WHEN Paul said he thinks heaven would be like..
And the song Lost Horizon lyrically about being drawn back to a specific time and place and the shared experience with a special someone, the beginning of forever.
Could be a coincidence, but I am sort of done believing in coincidence when it comes to these two.
Every time I see an overlap between Beatle people and OFMD crew I ascend.

If you aren't reading Faith Current's (Beautiful Possibility) mini series called Seven Levels, now is a great time to start. Also a small child followed me around a confusingly configured nature center announcing "There are Seven Levels" every time he walked into a room.
But back to the series. The speculation today has me rethinking John's actions towards the break up period quite a bit.
My husband, trying to understand: But if John Lennon was already married himself, with a kid, why would he be upset that Paul wanted to get married?
Me: Your first mistake is trying to frame John as a rational actor.

Let me remind you that Paul wrote 6 songs that talk about the planets Venus and Mars, who were secret lovers in Greek mythology.
Also both Linda's and John's zodiac sign is Libra, and Libra's ruling planet is Venus.
One of the songs is "New moon over Jamaica", which was written before Linda's death, and it features these lyrics:
I said good evening to Venus She said good evening too Out there somewhere, you know I could swear She sent a message of true love from you [...] There's a new moon over Jamaica And I'm living with an old memory A new moon makes someone feel happy A new moon makes someone lovesick I'm thinking of you, but what can I do? New moons and new years and old loves don't mix
And the new album is going to have a track called:
And the first star of the night is Venus.
AND THE COLLAGE JOHN MADE FOR ELTON, YOU KNOW, THE ONE WITH PAUL'S BUTT ON IT, HAD A HOROSCOPE ABOUT VENUS AND MARS
I don't think that the promise was about keeping the secret for a few reasons
I don't think that's a promise that john would feel strongly about holding paul to 40 years after his death, and I think paul would know that. even if he felt an understandable obligation to keep a promise of secrecy that they made when they were kids and never got the chance to re-visit, I don't think he'd feel the need to reassure john of this. to reach across time-space and tell john, it's ok, I'll keep our secret. he been done keeping that secret! john knows he can! I think it's much more likely that he would feel the need to tell john, to reassure john, of a promise that he's still true to him, that he still loves him.
references to promises in their songs seem to mean a lot of things, but I keep coming back to Promise to You Girl

to me that sounds like marriage, that sounds like commitment. and I think of all the promise songs that have been dug up, this one is the one that feels most like a reference to the same thing as Days We Left Behind
