youre singing. augustus gloop is stuck in a giant tube and youre singing.
Hi, I wanted to add the cursed conversation between myself and my friend after I sent them this post.
Some of the positions of Biden going into this election:
Abolish the death penalty.
End cash bail as it disproportional punishes the poor.
End cocaine sentencing disparity as racist
Eliminate mandatory minimums
Scrap past marijuana convictions
Eliminate private prisons
Raise minimum wage to 15$/hour
Supports a government mandated 12 weeks of paid family leave for all workers
Two years of college free
Expand student debt forgiveness, including 10K of forgiveness for all student loans and complete forgiveness for all undergraduate loans from 2 and 4 year public colleges and universities, and other loan forgiveness and payment reduction plans.
Eliminate funding gap for k-12 schools based on location (essentially between white and non white/poor and non poor division) with specific first steps outlined to do so.
Increase teacher pay, especially in underfunded schools (poor and POC schools)
Plan outlined to get us back in on the Paris agreement and goal of switching to clean energy by 2035 with first steps specified.
Supports voluntary gun buyback (similar programs have had huge success in reducing gun violence in other countries)
Supports firearm registry
Supports universal background checks for fire arm purchase
Supports huge expansions of medicare and the creation of a public run health insurance option that everyone is automatically enrolled in if they lose other coverage. You would also be able to use this free option if you did not want to use employer coverage. He has moved left in a huge way since the pandemic came into full swing but most people just ignore it. There is a good chance that by the time we get to the point of implementation he could just go medicare for all.
Citizenship for dreamers (DACA)
Outlined steps for increasing the quality of life, access to resources, and autonomy of disabled people, including expansion and strict enforcement of non discrimination policies
Universal hazard pay for “front line” workers during the pandemic
Specific first steps outlined for reducing systematic LGBTQ discrimination
Large increase of taxes on the wealthy, including a direct wealth tax and increasing taxes on corporations, with short term proposals in place that include undoing much of the damage done by trump.
You will notice that a lot of these positions can be described as halfway progressive. As in they move in the right direction but stop short of the ultimate goal. Sure, we didn’t win the primary and get a truly progressive candidate in, but the strong showing of progressive ideals during the primary means that we strong armed the democrat party into compromising with us. We forcibly moved the Overton window significantly left, imagine if we did this election after election! We could force real change regardless of the presidential candidate that is ultimately chosen.
We are slowly winning, but in order for it to stick we have to demonstrate that progressives will reward the shift in our direction. We absolutely need to vote Biden in, as well as support democrats in the senate, congress, and local levels. We need to prove that progressives are a powerful political group that can make promises and deliver to those who compromise with us. This is critical for the long term viability of progressive politics.
Biden isn’t just damage control. We wont be sprinting towards an ideal world but we will be taking significant steps in that direction. Don’t throw away all the progress we made because you don’t like the names on the ticket.
Please read, this is so important.
There’s a difference between compass statements and navigational statements.
“Compass” means “this is the general direction I want to go. This is my ultimate goal.” Such as “ending the school-to-prison pipeline.”
“Navigational” means “the steps I take to get there.” One might be “defund the police.” A different one might be “abolish private and for-profit prisons.” Another might be “universal basic income.” Or any combination of those.
You may not care for Biden’s navigational statements, but the point is the compass statements. Is he going in the right direction? Does he want basically what you want? Then you vote for him. Because you know the Orange Cockwomble IS NOT going in that direction.
Worry about navigation once we’re pointed the right way. There are many roads to take to get to our goals. Backwards isn’t one of them.
Just want to add that these policies will save lives. They will mean the difference between some of the most vulnerable people in the US regaining some of their basic rights and material needs which we NEED to sustain the movement. Biden may be a centrist liberal who does not share our progressive goals but some of the things he will pass will mean survival and the means to maintain activism
tma episode 2
I’m on break at work, listening to TMA again. Episode 2 begins. I find this post as the intro song plays.
I love this so much that when I showed it to my girlfriend I told her it wasn’t just art, but community service. I would die for this little man.
The Spoonie vote is one of the most powerful. 🗳
Register. Vote.
In my area at the very least, and I would assume others. There SHOULD be a drop off point (or more) in your county/city clerk’s office. The mail makes me nervous as I’ve had shipping issues and I’ve always voted in person. Being able to drop it into a designated spot myself gave me such peace of mind.
Also there are sites that can tell you if your ballot has been received (tho again ymm depending on your state) My mother has already been able to confirm that her ballot has been received!
sometimes I hate how much modern clothing is determined to show women’s bodies
like if it’s not skimpy, it’s skin-tight- leggings, skinny jeans, bodycon dresses, etc.
doing historical costuming has made me hyper-aware of just how “on display” my body is when I’m wearing normal modern outfits, and it affects my behavior. don’t bend over to pick things up at work because men will stare at your ass. sit differently so you don’t show stomach rolls. a guy running a pop-up stand next to my shop commented so much on how I had “great legs” that I didn’t wear leggings and skirts- one of my favorite winter outfit combinations -for the rest of the season
there’s a certain freedom in medium-to-long skirts and skirt supports, I find: the freedom to define what people see of my body. men won’t stop being creepy no matter what women wear, but I like that kind of dramatic body re-framing. you don’t get to see my legs and hips, Creepy Guys. you get to see a massive bell skirt, or a bustle, or an upended trumpet flower shape. my body is to be seen only by those I’ve chosen to trust, not the world at large
of course, empowerment is different for different women. some feel comfortable and powerful showing as much of their shape as possible, and I applaud them in doing exactly that. what pisses me off is the pressure from the fashion industry for all of us to be empowered by the same thing…a thing that just so happens to tie in with the diet industry and the cosmetics industry. it’s easier to sell the idea that you have to be hairless and smooth and thin and blemish-free when it’s all on display
sometimes I just wish I could go about in a hoop skirt and a t-shirt that says “fuck off” in delicate script
BEST RESPONSE TO ANY POST OF MINE EVER
THANK YOU
Technically unless there’s a dress code for your work or whatever there’s nothing that says you can’t wear a hoop skirt everywhere.
Fight the man.
Wear a hoop skirt if you want.
I see this post a lot and I’m sure I’ve seen someone I follow add on this as well but if you agree with the sentiment of this post I really hope you also support hijabis and niqabis, because that is more or less the core of how we dress. Observing hijab is religious, yes, but dressing modestly is like as OP said “my body is to be seen only by those I’ve chosen to trust, not the world at large”. that is the exact sentiment behind why I wear niqab (the religious reasons for wearing it I don’t feel comfortable talking about a lot, because how i express my faith is personal and between me and Allah(SWT)), because I get to choose who sees my body and how much of it they see and because I like having that control and I think it’s fun and I enjoy it!
If you now support people choosing to dress modestly for whatever reason, you must include supporting hijabis and niqabis who have been dressing modestly forever.
this blasts
black lives matter. they always have.
Taking a brief break from digital for the morning so my eyes wouldn’t fall out of my head lmao but holy fuck am I being productive.
CAN I JUST SAY I graduated from Auburn University. The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa is our rival school. They’re always fucking like this.
They win a lot of football championships but it’s so sad that the head trauma was also contagious.
Like damn y’all act like literal fucking terrorists coming to our campus just to take your own stupid selves out.
Happy Pride to the trans community 🏳️🌈 You are valid and important!
Honestly the idea that you cant escape fate or prophecy because whatever universe bullshit trying to change fate will only cause suffering is such BULLSHIT like honestly I hate that theme like the hero is just supposed to spread their asscheeks and take whatever fate gives them because "destiny" or "noble sacrifice" you can suck my entire dick with your defeatist ass bullshit the powers greater than ourselves can eat shit fuck your predestination bullshit what are we fucking puritans? Get outta here with that shit Richard. Self determination is self care I'll fight anybody who even utters a prophecy in my general direction god himself can't tell me what the fuck to do we make destiny our bitch in this house we submit to no fate but our own decisions gods cower and the universe shakes when humanity seeks to write it's own story and we're gonna keep it that way punks

Tips That Can Save Your Kid’s Life.
THIS IS IMPORTANT
When I was a child, from the time I was about four and could understand things, my mom told me and my brother that we should have a secret word. That way, if we were ever in trouble or felt unsafe and we didn’t want the people around us to know we needed her to come get us, we could let her know. So she let us pick the word and my brother and I chose the phrase “peanut butter cups.” (I’m happy to share the phrase now since both my brother and I are adults now).
I used the phrase twice in my life. Once, I was at a friends house when I eight years old. Her dad got really drunk and was throwing things against the wall. I was really scared and I didn’t want to draw attention to myself on the phone when I called my mom to come get me because I didn’t know if he would get more violent if I asked her to come get me. So I called her and was calm and after a couple minutes I asked “Hey mommy, did you get me those peanut butter cups from the store?” And she said “I’ll be right there.” And she came and got me within minutes.
Second, I was a teenager spending the night at a friends house. Her brother and dad were drinking and they started talking about things that made me uncomfortable - ie: what they liked to do to women. My friend didn’t seem perturbed and said that was normal for them and that I shouldn’t worry. But I was worried because they were really drunk and I was 15 and the only ‘woman’ around that wasn’t related to them. I went in my friends room, told her I needed to call my mom and say goodnight. Before I hung up with her I asked “Next time we go to the store, can we get some peanut butters cups? I’ve been craving them.” And she came and got me, just like that.
Two incidents, one as a young child, one years later as a teen. Don’t discredit this stuff, it fucking works. My brother used it a few times too. Let your child pick the word and no never, ever, ever, ever get mad at them for using it no matter what it is.
DO NOT SCROLL PAST THAT.
Off topic, but very important! I was taught to yell “this is not my mom/dad.” A young kid freaking out in public is likely to be ignored out of embarrassment, but a kid telling you right out that they don’t know who is messing with them? That will turn heads.
Reblog this.💯🗣💋
I’ve almost been snatched 3 times in my life. Twice as a kid and once as an adult. My parents told me to scream “fire” if I was grabbed. That was the extent they taught me, thinking they could just ward off the rest- a child with good parents doesn’t have to care for themselves, right?
Wrong.
The first time I was in the car alone in a parking lot. My mom had to run inside but a man got in the car and looked around for the keys. I relied on my 9 yr old freeze response and it saved me. He did not see me.
However the next time was very obviously trafficking and I thank whatever powers that be- I should not have walked past that one. A man walking in front of me at a strip mall. A car pulls up down the walkway, parks in a fire lane, 2 men get out and lean against it. It’s a nice car in a poor town with like 20 yr olds in it. 2 20 somethings dudes with a brand new Lexus in a poor town? No.
Man in front of me turns, asks, “Hey are you alone?”
I was 14. Obviously 14.
I said no, pointed at a woman walking into the store beyond the car and said “that’s my mom. I’m meeting her.”
He said okay, turned around and kept walking. He got in the car and all 3 drove away. I was by then in the store with my real mom. Because the woman was in the store I was certain they would take their chances grabbing me when I walked past.
Then the time I was in college. Just walking down the street when a man in a van started honking, swerving, and leaning all around ignoring the road so he could stare and wave at me, and then turned around to drive past again. I booked it. I just hurdled the bushes on the side of the road and cut across 3 parking lots. Not to carbon date myself but I hid in a Blockbuster Video store. I told the clerk and she rushed me to the bathroom. She told me to leave it locked until I felt safe.
But see, I lived in the apartment next door. I was practically already home but I couldn’t sneak in the back because of the gate and fence. I’d have to use the visible main entrance. So I stayed in there. The clerk saw the van drive past about 3 times. It took almost a half hour for him to leave.
Use your instincts. Make the plan and stick to it. Know what you’re going to do. It’s not fun to think about, but it is necessary.
I’ve been trying to find this gifset because this is relevant now more than ever.
