One of my favorite things about Pride and Prejudice is the Bennet family’s complete cluelessness about Darcy and Elizabeth. Like, if this were a tv show about the Bennets, Darcy and Elizabeth are like, the D storyline. The whole family is trying to get Jane and Bingley together, the regiment is stationed in Meryton, Mr. Collins is taking the house, Lydia and Wickham are obviously the climax, these people have a lot going on. And then, once the regiment has left and Jane and Lydia and Mr. Collins are married and everything seems resolved: plot twist! They’ve got random nobility at the door in the middle of the night telling the know-it-all sister who has been home on and off through the year not to marry the rando rich guy they all hate simply because they’re family and loyal to each other damnit and he called the know-it-all sister ugly once. 

And then, of course, they all find out Lizzy and Darcy are actually very in love and literally all of the good things that have happened to them this year are a direct consequence of Darcy loving Lizzy lolol.

an underrated detail in pride and prejudice is that elizabeth bennett was home alone on the day darcy proposed because she had a headache. can you imagine. this was in the pre-painkillers era. you're at home with a headache and then this asshole walks into the room and tells you he loves you and wants to marry you even though he hates your whole family and you're beneath him. imagine having to deal with that while also having a headache. she doesn't even have ibuprofen

It's not just for accuracy's sake that I argue that Darcy isn't shy or painfully socially awkward, it's because it changes the story and makes it worse. Elizabeth telling Darcy to practice talking to people becomes an extrovert demanding that an introvert just get better at masking or some B.S.. But Elizabeth can in fact identify shy people and she's exceedingly nice to them:

With astonishment did Elizabeth see that her new acquaintance was at least as much embarrassed as herself. Since her being at Lambton, she had heard that Miss Darcy was exceedingly proud; but the observation of a very few minutes convinced her that she was only exceedingly shy. She found it difficult to obtain even a word from her beyond a monosyllable... her manners were perfectly unassuming and gentle. Elizabeth, who had expected to find in her as acute and unembarrassed an observer as ever Mr. Darcy had been, was much relieved by discerning such different feelings.

Georgiana’s reception of them was very civil, but attended with all that embarrassment which, though proceeding from shyness and the fear of doing wrong, would easily give to those who felt themselves inferior the belief of her being proud and reserved. Mrs. Gardiner and her niece, however, did her justice, and pitied her.

Elizabeth meets Georgiana and is like, "Nope, nothing like her brother, this girl is super shy." The descriptions are very different too, Georgiana's manners are "gentle" while Darcy's "though well bred, were not inviting". Now is Elizabeth better at reading females than men? Absolutely. But this is an Elizabeth who knows herself better and, more importantly, understands Darcy, and she is like, "Wow, these siblings are super different. One of them will just stare at me without being nervous and the other can barely talk while visiting a party of three even though she's socially superior."

Georgiana and Fitzwilliam Darcy are not the same and one of them shy.

Being abused at home, bullied at school and lost in the world, the library and all the books I could escape to the most amazing worlds, kept me alive!

I would walk to the library, and spend all day, from 10 am to 9 pm reading there!! I got special awards for how many books I read, I wrote little blurbs on why i loved the books (probably why I love to BETA and do ARCs)

As a 50 year old woman, the library offers me so much. Digital art pads to borrow, 3D printing, book clubs that are face to face (yeah, the introvert likes face to face because a moderator will stomp on anyone getting snarky)

New books in LARGE PRINT! I’m visually challenged and as much as I love my kindle, The feel of a real book in my hands will always be a beloved feeling!

Our library also has quarterly books sales of almost free books!! For 5$USD we get in a day early and can buy as many as we want. Anyone else has to wait and there is a limit for the first 2 days.

Also many, many libraries have inter library loan(it may be called something different). This means if they don’t have the item you want, they can get it for you. This may include photocopy/pdf of articles. This can also include along with books and DVDs, microfilm/fiche which is also a huge resource. Check around for libraries that are listed as depositories if you want to look at government documents.

Remember that many colleges and universities have open stacks for the public. You will likely have to pay a membership fee but you will get to stuff.

I used to wander about the fiction section in my local library, and choose books with the most interesting titles - I discovered two amazing authors that way

Hi!! As my first post I’d like to share something that I released a little over a month ago, it’s a love letter to my favorite comic and show Heartstopper. These characters and stories have helped me so much in the last few years and now that I’ve learnt animation I wanted to create something special. I adore the song Deep End that played on the 6th episode of Season 2 (Truth or Dare), and once I heard it, the concept for this video came to my mind, all the lyrics connecting so perfectly into the Heartstopper canon. I hope you enjoy it, I made it with a lot of love. 💖

you find out Maomao has been wounding herself so she can do her experiments. Then her being kidnapped and thinking about food. She then would go into insulting her looks and her body type. You then see Master Jinshi for the first time and heart eyes. Then they walk by each other and he looks back. Ughhhh!!!!!! He smiles when he talks about her. When he said, I should seduce her a little um haha, I think you got seduced, sir. Lady Gyoaku laughing knowing Jinshi kinda gotta crush.

I can’t stop thinking about Maomao and Jinshi… I just re read chap 18 of vol7 so many times, and guys… its peak. I just cant get enough of it.. I’am so obsessed with the way Maomao wanted Jinshi to actually be straightforward with his feelings and intentions but at the same time she didn’t wanna hear it… They’re so excellent…
