The Wendy S collection is about easy, uncomplicated style for plus size women. The Wendy S, woman is active, feminine, and chic; she desires budget friendly fashion. Wendy S, is a brand with a love for color, glamour, and details. Inspired by the mixed culture of South Florida; as well as the urban chicness of Atlanta. We intertwine the two to bring you vibrant colors, bold prints, modern chic shapes, and carefree glamour.

Throw Back Thursday

It's Throw Back Thursday everyone!  I love this non official weekly holiday. lol  Everyone reminiscing about moments that made them smile, laugh, or cry (out of happiness hopefully).  Since I choose to live a life of optimism and finding the good in everything and everyone, I've also chose to run my indie business the same way!

So my Throw Back Thursday picture is from one of our first big photoshoots!  I learned a lot and spent a lot of money lol doing this photoshoot. We did the photoshoot in 2011 with 4 models, hair and makeup team,  assistants, and a photography team!  We decided Savannah, Georgia would be the perfect location for our Spring and Summer Collection.  AND IT WAS!!! 

We took pictures in all sorts of locations along the Savannah River.  It was picture perfect!  

Our models included: Maria Santiago (shown on the picture),  Debanie Hall, LaQuatis Que, and Telethia Penn! The hair and mua team was provided by: MsNickee Mack of Diva Day International (Atlanta, GA).  The photography team was provided by: Darla Clarkson of Phoenix Photography.  

Like I said earlier, I learned a lot from doing this photoshoot!  What I learned as an Indie Designer:

1.  Work with models that have a great personality and are willing to make your vision a reality.  The models we choose made it so easy for me. I was a nervous wreck!

2.  Make sure everyone involved knows your vision and is willing to make your vision happen.  Have at least 2 group meetings.

3.  Contracts, contracts, contracts!! 

4.  Save on location/production type photo shoots for editorial.  Which would be for promotional use.  Opt for standard background photo shoots for websites, portfolios, lookbooks, line sheets, etc.  IT WILL SAVE YOU MONEY

5.  Have a budget and stick to it.  Find ways of cutting back if you need to but communicate this with your team.  Sometimes they have better ideas to make your vision a reality.

6.  HAVE FUN!!!! Keep the work environment stress free.  Thank you Wet Willies! lol

This past week was the Super Bowl/Mercedes Benz Fashion Week/Oscars of the plus size industry, Full Figured Fashion Week in New York city!  The who's who of the plus size industry was there to support the finally.  Yes sad to say this was the last year for FFFWeek!  While our brand has never been apart of this mega event, we have dressed women every year since 2009.  Sad to see such a major event/platform go away.  BUT I'm quite sure there is more to come from Gwen DeVoe!

We had the privilage of these ladies wearing our brand to various festivities events surrounding the week long event.  Some of the garments were custom made, while others were apart of our Spring/Summer 2014 collection.  One of our personal favorites, the beige faux wrap bodysuit with shoulder pads and faux wrap skirt with an extreme split! 

Our Goal is to provide easy uncomplicated style for plus size women.  A little something we like to call Casual Chic!  I think we've accomplished it, Happy Customers!

I'm excited about the changes taking place with my company!  It's a challenge being an indie designer, there are highs and lows.  BUT the most important thing is NEVER GIVE UP!  This is my passion and I'm enjoying the challenges.

We have been Big Girlz inc since 2007! While you would think this would be a sad occasion; cue in Boys to Men! lol  It's one of the greatest times for us as a company.  We have taken on a huge following under the name Big Girlz inc. Our customers and followers have been faithful to our brand for many years, We are most grateful!

Growth and new direction is our reason for changing the companies name.  We feel in order to reach more women in the plus size industry, we have to address the image women see.  Industry plus size standard is  8 and up, YES size 8!!!! Many women do not feel comfortable or even see themselves as plus sized. Our motto: Every woman deserves designer options and we want to be one of those options.
