most historical musicals: we are going to tell a story about a complicated historical figure. in order for our audience to connect with the story, we might have to gloss over some of the more negative aspects of the characters or events. if we do our job right, our audience will be so interested in the topic they will do some research on their own and learn about all the things we couldn’t put into a 2 hour musical :)
