What shall I call my dear little door mouse?
Yeah, I know it is silly but I like it.
it is pretty silly, but silly's good sometimes
What shall I call my dear little door mouse?
-she clears her throat-
"I sometimes call him Terrible John,
'Cos his tail goes on-
and on-
and on-
And I sometimes call him Terrible Jack,
'Cos his tail goes to the end of his back.
And I sometimes call him Terrible James,
'Cos he says he likes me calling him names.
But I think I shall call him Terrible Jim,
‘Cos I am so fond of him.”
is that the end?
What shall I call my dear little door mouse?
No, I was saying an A.A Milne poem. My grandma used to read it to me when I was little.
well then you can continue
What shall I call my dear little door mouse?
I’m reading poem silly.
oh. I thought you were needing a name for your mouse.
What shall I call my dear little door mouse?
Are you gonna interrupt or shall I continue?
interrupting what?
What shall I call my dear little door mouse?
His eyes are small,
But his tail is e-nor-mouse
.
e-nor-mouse...that's pretty good
God, I feel like such a fool. I really should change my sleeping habits right? Don’t want to miss any toe-tapping numbers.
ah, who needs sleep at all? Sleep is for the dead
Well 3pm is my nap time so that explains everything.
see? you're napping through the number
I kind of keep half expecting people in this town to randomly break into a musical number. Like in Singing In The Rain or something. I feel like that would make more sense then it just being painfully quiet and creepy around here.
You mean you haven't seen people do that yet? It's pretty much a 3 pm ritual around here
Alright where's the burgers and hot dogs? It's not the fourth without them...or the apple pie
Bonfire every night and refreshments? I can deal with that.
it's going to be a blast
"I understand why you killed yourself" she said quietly, "and I don’t think any less of you because of it. Honestly if I was in that position I’d do the same" she nodded. Looking at him for a few moments, she looked down, "honestly I think you and I are the only ones that view being dead as a good opportunity"
"I just thought I was going to die. I didn't think I was going to get a second chance" he gave a soft laugh. "When I got here, and I could move...I wasn't stuck in a chair or bed, I thought...this was the best thing to ever happen to me."
"Don’t say that" she sighed, "you were still somebody" she said before she heard the rest of the story. She looked down as she remembered when her mother was killed by the car crash and how it sounded similar to her moms, but she shook her head, forgetting those memories. This wasn’t about her at that moment. "What happened wasn’t your fault and even though you couldn’t walk you were still somebody" she said in a comforting tone.
"I couldn't move, Eva" he shook his head. "for months and months I couldn't move anything. At all" he swallowed "I couldn't do anything. I couldn't feed myself or bathe or go to the bathroom. Even after a little while, I could only use my arms. Everything else was...dead. I was a hero in my town before it all happened, and then I wasn't anyone"
She listened to him and tilted her head a bit, wondering what the accident could have been. “Whatever happened it doesn’t change the fact that I still want to be friends with you” she shrugged, a sweet smile forming. “You don’t have to tell me any more if you don’t want to, though, so don’t worry about it”
He smiled a little at her smile, it made him feel a little better. "Before I came here I was...I was someone. I had a football scholarship. I was going to graduate and go to college." he closed his eyes. "but then - then we were we were out one night, and this guy he - he just hit us head on. We didn't have time to try and dodge it." he had to open his eyes before he started seeing the lights again. "I remember screaming and trying to move to make sure they were okay, but I couldn't, and they weren't"
"Me too" she laughed but quickly went serious when she heard him talk again. "Of course, you know I’m not like that" she nodded, wondering what could possibly be wrong.
"I just thought, since I'm living with you it might be something you need to know" he finished stirring in his sugar. Lifting it up he gave it a taste, it was better now. "The reason I have urges to do things like run and do any sort of physical activity...the reason I refuse to teleport or anything like that is because" he bit his lip "before I died. The reason I killed myself....the year before I did, there was an accident..."
"No I was awake, I was reading in my room" she laughed, pouring herself, and West, a cup of coffee and walking back out. "I thought an intruder got in so I kinda almost went at you with a bat, thank god you weren’t in here" she chuckled and handed him one of the cups
"Well I'm glad you didn't beat me with a bat" he laughed as he took the cup. He gave a sip, before setting it down to add some sugar to it. "Eva if I told you something, something that I've never told anyone here, would you keep it just between us?"
