Hi! I really love your character designing, your shapes are so inspiring, flowy and entertaining, do you have any major tip on studying character design for animation? (Maybe a book or artist that inspired your path)
1. Strengthen your foundation. Lots of figure drawing, gesture drawings and sketching from life. This will improve your understanding of construction, rhythm, flow and most important of all your observation. (You should ideally, never stop doing this)
2. Do studies from the work of other character designers you like. This will help you build a library of shapes and a good sensibility for caricature. Do studies from multiple artists, not just one.
3. Use references. Think of a character designer as a costume designer + casting director + actor. Itās important to feed yourself with as many references you can find for these 3 aspects before you start drawing.
4. Stay loose. Donāt focus so much on making tidy, clean, rendered drawings. Especially during the early exploratory stages, its important to do lots of quick sketches (100s of them), your goal is to find the right acting and personality at this stage. Once it starts to feel like the character that fits the description you can focus on pushing the shapes, costume etc etc.
