Another fun fact about this rewatch of Derry Girls, when James is dressing up like Peter, he’s wearing a rosary as a necklace, which as far as I know if the tradition stays true across all Roman Catholicism, is a giant pointer that he was raised in England since Catholics find it to be pretty taboo to wear a rosary as jewelry. Wear as many crucifixes as you want, but rosaries are absolutely not an accessory.
Rewatching Derry Girks and just caught Aunt Sarah’s, “My stomach thinks my throat’s been cut.” And I have had absolutely never heard this phrase before so I’m just assuming it’s just an older saying based on the setting or just an idiom from across the pond. Apparently it has been used in the States as well and then I see what it means. I’m just thinking that the throat’s been cut meant something to do with when your throat is super scratchy like it was cut by little blades, not that the food is falling through the wound before it reaches the stomach. There is a lovely personal touch to most language’s idioms, but I want to meet who coined this phrase because they had to have been going through something.

I found out several of my female coworkers were planning on trying to get our male coworker to ask me out because “You guys kept flirting” but I was like “We were literally just goofing around. Like we literally just told jokes to each other. Literally just stuff that friends do, the same stuff you and I do.” I was definitely 100% NOT flirting but everyone thought I was

This might be a good time for Ms. Psych degree here to step in and let ye all know that People Are Unable To Identify Flirting. There are double-blind studies to support this, if you instruct participants to flirt or not flirt with another participant, neither the second participant nor onlookers are able to accurately tell which instruction the first participant was given. Even if you get the flirting participant to rate their attraction to the person they’re flirting with, and only count trials where people are either flirting with people they find attractive, or not flirting with people they don’t find attractive NO ONE CAN TELL WHO IS FLIRTING OR WHO ISN’T.
I’ve heard that people actually have a *less than 50% chance* of guess whether someone is flirting or not.
Thank fuck this isn’t just me failing at humanity

i have seen this post on my dash 7 times now and every time i think more loudly, 'this is what Batman villain The Penguin's dialogue sounds like when they let him be fun to watch.'
the thing about mothers in fiction is that a lot of fandoms seem to be under the impression that the worst thing a woman can possibly do is be a bad mother. like they can forgive deadbeat dads easily but the moment a woman is a bad or even mediocre mother she's the devil incarnate to them. and then you're like "i like her and i think she's interesting" and they immediately go "oh so you think it's okay to be a bad mother (which is the most evil thing a woman can be)". and don't even get me started on how they react to female characters who are bad stepmothers
I finally understand why that argument was always making me angry
being a lesbian online feels really oddly isolating sometimes because i try so hard to curate a space focused solely on women and loving women and writing fun silly fics about women who love women and still people find a way to be lesbophobic and question whether im an ‘actual lesbian’ or not
so much for not dredging this up again but in yet another episode of i just want to be a lesbian in peace
today i was told i wasn’t able to join an online ‘WLW and Sapphic Book Club’ because, a direct quote, ‘Unfortunately we don’t allow people who identify as lesbians or who experience sole attraction to women to join us’ and their reasoning for that was, and yes it’s another direct quote ‘…due to past experiences and given that other members are made to feel uncomfortable by people who aren’t open to exploring books and works that include a deep and meaningful attraction to men.’
and i don’t wanna hear a thing about how this is just people online and that queer folks offline are better. because that used to be true, but it’s bleeding into offline spaces more and more
look at the recent series of i kissed a girl, how many instances were there about masc presenting lesbians trying to say that they had feelings too, that they were people too, and then the next scene was someone talking about ‘messy mascs’ and how ‘it’s always mascs causing shit’ and how most of the drama stemmed from the desire for the relationship to fulfil heteronormative roles

The most popular website as you type in "recipes" into google have sections where you click dinner- quick and easy and those usually rely on staples + 1 or 2 items. I found 30 recipes on chicken alone.

for anyone who isn't aware, wnba players have been speaking out recently about the abuse they've been receiving online from sports betters who bet on them and weren't happy with the outcomes of the games. notably, chelsea gray blasted a guy who called her a racial slur because she didn't score as many points as he bet she would, and courtney williams posted a voice note of her response to a guy who said some absolutely vile stuff to her
i know most of the wnba fans on here are more casual watchers, but it's still something i think everyone who pays attention to the league should be aware of because it's astounding how many comments i've seen saying that the players should just suck it up because that comes with the territory and all athletes have to deal with it. while it's true that this problem is by no means unique to the wnba, that doesn't mean it's okay or that players should have to tolerate harassment and bigotry (i swear every single one of these comments is overtly racist, misogynistic, and/or homophobic)
if the league is going to openly endorse sports betting, partner with betting platforms, and actively promote betting during every single commercial break, then it NEEDS to also take measures to protect its players from the vitriol that betting inspires. personally i think it's incredibly fucked up that sports leagues are endorsing betting at all, but that's a conversation for another day. natasha cloud said it well when she was interviewed about it: if the wnba wants to endorse betting for the sake of financial growth, fine, but that cannot come at the expense of the players, and cathy needs to step up and protect them (in this way and so many more). elizabeth williams (secretary of the players’ association) said that there’s a meeting scheduled to discuss the issue with cathy soon, but i honestly don’t know how much we can expect to come from it
