as if the new wta policy itself wasn’t already horrible enough, it is now governed by florida law, and any challenge to it has to be filed in a st. petersburg court. the previous version was governed by new york law. the wta says it’s because it’s headquartered in st. petersburg, so on paper it looks like a routine housekeeping change.
but it’s hard for me to believe the wta didn’t know exactly what it was doing when it made that change. if a player ever wanted to challenge whether this policy is even legal, she couldn’t simply appeal her own case through the sport’s arbitration system. she’d have to challenge the policy itself in a florida courtroom, in a state whose laws and judges are far less favorable to exactly the kind of woman this policy is to affect. this is beyond disgusting and just shows how little they seem to care about the wellbeing of their players.
I am very concerned for the women who won't end up passing these tests (not even only trans women, if there are any, but also intersex women) because it's going to be made public and they are going to be harassed. It's such a horrible move by the wta. They, as always, don't care about their players' safety.
literally this is exactly what has happened when this kind of testing has been implemented before by the olympics. (i say "this kind" of testing as if that article wasn't an anti-scientific, non-specific load of bs) - because genetics are complicated and messy, chromosomal testing has only ever turned up cis women with undiagnosed intersex variations, up-ending their lives, identities and careers, and causing completely unnecessary harm all the way round.

“it isnt something you have to read critically” well 😭
this technically is true but I think this also perfectly encapsulates why I am inherently distrustful of like. “”cozy”” “turn your brain off” fiction lmfao. like okay WHO gets to turn their brain off and who has to suffer through bigoted caricatures of themselves while everyone else is having cozy silly no brain time 😐
wta implementing sex testing is beyond fucked like this is such a blatant excuse to treat intense and invasive transmisogyny as if it’s normal and inherent to women’s sport; it’s not and never should be but it’s also naive to hope that anyone prevalent on tour will comment against it. of course this is going to be weaponized further against athletes of color and contribute to a normative “ideal” of femininity in a space where it ought to be entirely irrelevant
Following cultural tides, the women's tennis tour is mandating a strict new eligibility requirement.
This shit is so fucking frustrating. Transphobia is making modern sport close to unbearable with its chronic paranoia.

i swear to god. so terrible to be a trans woman in sports no matter the sport, level or category. i know trans women who have been pushed out of amateur sports. i know trans women who have been harrassed by doctors, by coaches while practising sports as an amateur. and i knew trans women that dealt with these things 10 years ago, it's always been an issue, now they're spreading it everywhere and writing their bigotry into the rules books. which is so scary. one of the many ways in which transphobes and people who are politically interested in the rise of transmisogynistic rhetoric keep trying to push trans women to the outskirts of society
i promise you that white man is not underrated
1) any stretching is better than no stretching
2) any vegetable is better than no vegetable
3) statistically you will never be the worst person at anything, there is always someone in the world who is worse at stuff than you are
i've had this post muted basically since its inception because people are so annoying on posts like this but every once in a while i look through the tags and comments and i'm so proud of everyone who is saying stuff like "i recently managed to include a new vegetable in my diet" or "this mindset made me start practicing dental hygiene more often" or "i'm trying to walk more and i'm not doing it every day but i'm doing it" I'M PROUD OF YOU!! EVEN IF A POSITIVE CHANGE IS SMALL IT IS STILL POSITIVE! DOING SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT AT A TIME IS STILL DOING IT!!!!
with the wta seemingly introducing mandatory genetic sex testing i want to highlight that not only is sex testing/testosterone testing deeply rooted in transphobia/bullshit fearmongering about an extremely marginalized population but also disproportionately affects BIPOC athletes:
2009 Olympics — Caster Semenya forced to undergo sex testing following her gold medal win / long form profile by Ariel Levy
2021 Olympics — Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi banned from participating in women’s 400m race because of naturally high testosterone levels. / Op-ed piece by Morgan Campbell on misogynoir in sports / NPR podcast: The origins of modern day sex testing in sports
2024 Olympics — The case of Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting / Morgan Campbell Op-ed

the other day in the groupchat we were talking about how historical fiction will often try to code aristocrat characters as more sympathetic by only having them have a single servant instead of a whole household of staff but instead this just makes them look like an exploitative employer who’s so cheap he would rather pile impossible amounts of labor upon a single guy than hire enough help to actually run his house

Ozempic scares the shit out of me. You're telling me there's a drug that takes away both the craving side of hunger and targets the brain's rewards center for eating. You're telling me it takes the joy out of eating and it turns you into a skeleton. Why did we turn The Curse of the Black Pearl into a drug. What the fuck.
I actually want to thank the diabetics coming on this post like "actually it genuinely is a great treatment for diabetes and it hasn't affected my mood or my enjoyment of food. The real issue is it's getting abused as a weight loss drug which also makes it scarce and more expensive for those who can genuinely benefit from it." Kind of reminds me of the time my brother got permission from our family psychiatrist to try my ADHD medication and his reaction to it was "what the fuck are you on. WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU ON. WHY DO I FEEL LIKE CRYING. YOU'RE ON THIS EVERY DAY!?!"
Body chemistry! It makes a big difference in how your body processes a drug! What can be genuinely helpful for some folks is The Curse of the Black Pearl for others!
we might be blogging hours apart but time is nothing. i love you
