sometimes you invent mind prisons for yourself for no good reason and youre like "i really like being in the mind prison" even though you dont actually like being in the mind prison

opened up ravelry to look at patterns and the very first thing i saw was
The Garment by Robert Cole
I had to immediately look for myself and I feel like this post needs the addition of the very first line in the pattern description
Elevator
The aging elevator was halfway down when the cable snapped. The passengers screamed as they fell for what felt like miles. At last, the emergency brakes activated, and the elevator jolted to a stop.
"Stupid piece of garbage," the elevator operator muttered. "I always tell 'em to maintain it, but do they listen to me? No!" He let out a long sigh. "Alright, folks, it'll be a while. I can't take you downstairs until they send a repairman." With a long wait ahead, he decided to sharpen his horns.
Funny how different brains work, my first thought was "But I thought that there was a pole now?"
Idungeddit?
Story: The elevator is going to Hell. The operator is a demon, that's why he has horns.
First addition: Refers to the song "Highway to Hell" by AC/DC. In which there is a highway, so you could take that instead of the elevator.
Second addition: Refers to the music video to the song "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" by Lil Nas X, in which he poledances down to Hell. At the time it came out, there were some very good memes and other jokes made about the pole.
literally the worst way of ending a series is “all the survivors are happily straight married with tons and tons of babies!”
people still getting mad at this post i made in 2014 so I will add here. in 2026. that the point of this post isn’t “happy endings bad” its when the story’s only way to imagine a happy ending is a heterosexual nuclear family for everyone.
Just a little reminder that sometimes, our minds can make our fears and problems seem much bigger than they really are. 🐾🤍

Everyone loves a cycle aware Orpheus but what about a cycle aware Eurydice? Eurydice who tries her hardest to resist the hunger and the cold. Tries to convince Orpheus to just LOOK UP time and time again to no avail. Eurydice who KNOWS and still fails. She knows he’s gonna turn around. She knows they’re not gonna make it out of hell together. But she hopes. Every time she hopes that he loves her a little bit less than the last time. Hopes he won’t look back. But of course, Orpheus is still Orpheus. And he loves her more than anything.
i saw a tumblr post a while ago that implied that the purpose of book reviews is to help the author get better at their craft by evaluating the book and pointing out its strengths and weaknesses, and i disagree with that so strongly. a book review is not for the author of the book you’re writing about. it’s for potential readers, and readers who want to see someone else’s thoughts on the book. and on a more personal level, it’s for you, the reviewer, to bring your own analysis and your unique perspective to the review. a book review is about the book you’re reviewing, obviously, but it’s also about you, and what that book meant to you, and why it affected you the way it did. a book review can and should discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the book, but not for the purpose of instructing the writer how to improve their craft. that’s not your job. the author of the book may read your review, but if you have the idea that you’re writing for them, that you’re their editor or pr manager, then you misunderstand the purpose of a book review, and your review will suffer for it.
Always always always tell people you love they are so smart and capable. I will die on this hill. More often than not people are raised in unforgiving environments that tell them they are inherently “stupid” and not good enough for things, whether that be parents or cruel bosses or unsupportive friends. An underrated way of supporting people is reminding them they are brilliant no matter what anyone has ever said about their intellect and potential. People can do wonders when it’s affirmed to them their limiting beliefs are just that: limiting beliefs.
