Thinking about how Joshua Jackson said he had been in a ton of love triangles throughout his career and he was so excited to now be in a show where the love triangle was resolved in a much more “Mature” way by having it be consummated by all three of them instead of them fighting over a girl the whole time. Or how Sean and Josh said that the threesome scene was their favorite part of the show and they were the most proud of it. And how Phillipa said she was happy to explore new types of relationships and how it’s important to see these conversations and this dynamic play out on a national stage.

Like those are not the words of three people who think the show is gonna end monogamously. Something happened at the network.

Remember when they were all hanging out late at night being silly and talking about life? Like even before the threesome happened that night they were actually having so much fun spending time with each other... How did we get here?

sorry i'll be done being angry about doctor odyssey eventually but when you look at tristan, it's genuinely so upsetting to see how badly the writing fell off/had to be changed because of network interference or whatever. max was so important to him - it's always been avery first but in 1a he got so attached to max so quickly. and even in the aftermath of the threesome when they were figuring themselves out, you can SEE how tristan values max's presence and space in the infirmary

like i think about how he kept looking to max when he was talking about his dad being an alcoholic. i think about him genuinely apologizing to max in his office for trying to contradict him. i think about how he so easily let himself be taken care of by max during hot tub week when they're all trying to survive the not-pregnancy

and to see how the last 4 episodes ended and took that relationship, subtextually but also IN the text, is just. so sad. max was and IS important to tristan. they tried to no homo their way out of the relationship built there but you cannot take any of 1a to 1x14 away from me

Above and beyond my disappointment that they fully veered away from ody3, is the fact that it all felt so forced.

The max and Avery of it all felt forced…every conversation they had was so unnatural and lacked chemistry. (I also personally think she made the wrong choice if she was going to choose…team Tristan if not ody3).

And then the Tristan, Max bro code no homo conversation, so unbelievably forced, so unbelievable, and so awkward for the audience.

And then the whole where you go we go thing with no Rosie, no Corey and like 10 crew members. No emotional weight.

It was designed to act as a season or series finale but failed at both. Tying everything up into neat bows was unsatisfying. And where do they go from here if they do get a season 2?

What is really driving me insane is that it was real. Like we didn't just see these three and said, hey wouldn't it be fun if they started a relationship? No, the show went there. And then doubled down and talked about polyamory and explained what it was to everyone and made it clear that Avery was very into the idea because she wanted BOTH OF THEM.

Even if we put the throuple aside for a second, what the hell happened to her relationship with Tristan? There was no closure there for them. Tristan literally relapsed because he realized what was going on and then lied to Avery when she asked if it was because of her and it was not mentioned again and suddenly Tristan is totally cool with Max and Avery to the point where he thinks they make a cute couple and he needs to find someone to be in a 'nice strictly monogamous relationship too <3' like what kind of 180 was that???

At this point I would have preferred they ended it with all of them single and Avery going to med school in the near future. Hell, even the purgatory theory would have been better than this.

I'm really wondering where a possible season 2 is going to go now. Is the show going to be about Max/Avery and totally supporting bff Tristan who will eventually find a nice girlfriend too who loves him and no one else? This is not what I signed up for😭😭

honestly like the ep after the threesome where they talked about polyamory and can 1 person really be enough or w/e. and how much they seemed to push avery wanting a relationship with both of them. its really disappointing how the show dropped the ball.

dr odyssey needs a second season, i am not accepting monogamy as the ending to this show! here me out max and avery’s happily ever after isn’t panning out the way they expected and avery and eventually max realise that they’re missing tristan.
