Grieving is a strange thing
Letha, to the Squad: If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands!
*silence*
Letha: Damn, y’all depressed as fuck!
Jade: You didn’t clap either-
Letha: SHUT UP!
Horror movie protagonists WISH they have what Jade Daniels and Letha Mondragon have. They fucking WISH.
has anyone else read stephen graham jones don't fear the reaper yet
Just had a moment of missing my girl Jade Daniels. She's like AC/DC. Goes both ways. Forest conversation with the girl you've been in love with since you were 17 and stupid and you've just watched her husband die in front of you. You are everything to me.
“But that’s just it, isn’t it? They were plural, not singular, that’s where horror movies have it all wrong, that’s where the slasher lies: it’s not about a lone girl carving her way to daylight, is it? It’s about two girls making it across the ice together.”
— Stephen Graham Jones, Don’t Fear the Reaper
letha and jade have developed the kind of friendship i knew they could have and they are sososososo important to me…them yelling at each other until “jennifer” cracks and shouts about slashers, awkwardly hugging in the burnt-out kitchen of what should have been letha’s house, “have i always been this annoying?”, jade reluctantly offering to chew up beef jerky for letha. i love women
I finished The Angel of Indian Lake recently and there were so many feelings. I was originally just going to say a couple of things and it got away from me so I just did it this way. If you want to read my rambling, cool, if not, long story short: Stephen Graham Jones is fucking awesome, Jade Daniels is 100% my Final Girl of all final girls, and the Indian Lake Trilogy is such a good read on so many levels so everyone should read it.
There is an amazing amount of depth and heart to it that you just don't usually see in horror fiction and on top of that, the trilogy starts out as a total love letter to 80s slashers and final girls, with the real surprise being the protagonist, half-Blackfeet and full outcast Jade Daniels, the rebel girl who is always in trouble for something and has memorized everything about every slasher film (up to that point) while praying for a real slasher to hit her town of Proofrock, Idaho, but be careful what you wish for, right? Love her!! Lots of subplot about the colonization and takeover of Native lands, as SGJ is a Native American writer and that figures into his work. So much depth. Anyway, did I say this was the short version??? Just read the books! 😂🔪🖤🫀🩸
Jade: Just trust me. Have I ever put you in an unsafe or uncomfortable situation?
Letha: All the time.
Jade: Then you should be used to it by now.
i love when characters don't get to die
this is about villains/antagonists/general horrible people who finally face up to what they've done. especially if they try to pull the good ole "Dramatically Does One Good Thing To Redeem Themselves And Dies," but despite their best efforts they DON'T die. like yes motherfucker there's no easy way out for you, there's only the slow, awkward and painful process of learning to live with yourself. of learning to live with the weight of your mistakes. you get a second chance regardless of if you think you deserve it. you get to try to make amends and do good. you get to live.
this is also about every self-sacrificial bastard of a protagonist who puts themselves in harm's way again and again and again to a wildly unhealthy and unnecessary degree. see, there's something so compelling to me in the unspoken suicidality of repeated heroic self-sacrifice, and the thing about implicitly suicidal characters is that i want them to live. and that can be used to make a death so much more tragic and impactful - noble sacrifices and last stands certainly can and have been done beautifully - but there's also something special to me in seeing such a character make it. because you'd die for the people you love, yes, but would you live for them?
this is now also about final girls
oh to be in a polycule with jade daniels and letha mondragon
nothing but respect for MY final girls
Truly gonna have to make a post promoting/begging people to read the Indian Lake Trilogy when I've finished the final book, aren't I? Not enough (read: basically zero) people have read this book and they NEED to GOD I am DYING over here
Letha: We should normalize not loving family members.
Jade: You can just say: “I hate my dumb fuck dad” or whatever. Talk like a normal person!
man, do i want, even need a proper indian lake trilogy adaptation, but ONLY if it's done right & has native cast & crew & stephen graham jones direct involvement. jade daniels deserves to be immortalized on screen as much as any other final girl, if not more so.
guess i'll put this here too, even though its past the day in my timezone lol
Do you have an onlyfans?
