I passed my course, which means my conditional to QMU was turned into an unconditional and I accepted the spot on the Marketing and PR course.

It's a great achievement and I will be the first of my family to have made it to uni. I also haven't been to school in about 5 (ugh, I think it's 6...)years. This thought terrifies me, but I'm staying positive and hope the regimented employment lifestyle I've had will kick these 4 years in the BUTT!

End of a contract - April 2013

So it's come to an end, by April 13th 2013, I will have officially ended my time being one of the first Young Scot Modern Apprentices.

It's been something completely different to ANYTHING I've ever done before, and have been given so many opportunities  met so many fantastic/inspirational people I still can't fully wrap my head around the fact that this is my full time job.

Some of the highlights of my year are:-

Young Scot Awards - The wolf pack's first adventure working as Social Reporters, we met celebrities, award winners and watched the incredible stories of nominees. There was tears shed at a few of them.

Working with sportscotland - All of it

Glasgow Homecoming Ceremony - Chris Hoy touched my hand, Heather Stanning let me touch her gold medal, I spoke to Michael Jamieson and got the Scottish Swimmers Autograph. (I also met John MacKay - New Anchor LEGEND)

Hall of Fame Awards - Sports legends of past and present attended the prestigious event.

Xmas nights out

Being apart of the new Web portal at sports

All staff event - being assistant photographer

High Performance Conference - Befriending Katherine Grainger and chatting higher grade German with her and Floyd.

Meeting all the other Modern Apprentices - We'll probably never be together as a group again, it was a blast and I've probably made friends I'll keep in contact with for the rest of my life. Massive shout out to the Originals aka Wolf Pack - Lee, Jordan M, Jordan R, Craig & Eathan.

So as this contract ends, a new one begins. Being kept on at sportscotland means my role will take on more responsibility and to prep me for what Uni has in store. 

I'm looking forward to working on new projects and hope to work even harder and establish a good working relationship with the companies who gave me this opportunity.

I'm hoping to keep this blog more up to date as I continue into University. Don't know how exciting it'll get after this 6 months though...Less partying with superstar athletes.

Update - 08/03/13

It’s been a busy few weeks since my last update.

Created my own Business Card ^image above^

I’ve had two university conditionals (both for Queen Margaret Uni in Edinburgh - Public Relations and Marketing, and PR & Media)

Been told my contract will be extended until September, but I’ve also had a call back for an actual Marketing & Events job

Submitted 4 articles to be published in sportscotland's magazine. So some choices may need to be made within the next month or two.

Become a Photographers assistant for a Staff Event, with more opportunities to come in the future.

As well as working on various things, I’ve nearly completed my college work (only 20 outcomes to go) and have started working on a case study that is to represent what we have achieved, felt, and aspire toward over the past year.

When set this work, I thought I would struggle with this piece as it would involved showcasing what we have done. I am someone who thinks this opportunity has given me so much experience and focus that I need, but I haven’t created anything tangible that could be deemed a “powerful” piece of work. After thinking over what I could do and writing the content of the case study before “getting creative” with it, I noticed that I’ve done a lot of comms/marketing work, therefore I’ll exhibit those skills by commissioning someone to create the case study piece for me. I’ll write a brief, set meetings and deadlines and go through the procedure to brand myself as a professional.

I’m positive that the next post will have everything that I’ve decided to do, and as always, if there are any enquiries about what I’ve done in the last 10 months, get in touch. I’ll create a little chat box for questions, or just to say Hi!
