when maya angelou said “have enough courage to trust love one more time and always one more time.”
Self-love is not just cutting toxic people from your life, but also cutting ties with the version of yourself who allowed that relationship to continue for as long as it did.
“some nights you are the lighthouse / some nights the sea”
— Ocean Vuong, from ‘My Father Writes From Prison’, Night Sky With Exit Wounds
― Billy-Ray Belcourt, A History of My Brief Body
[text ID: To love someone is firstly to confess: I'm prepared to be devastated by you.]
“Letters from Medea”- Salma Deera
in my dreams i disappear, until only the trees know where i am, and only my mother knows i am gone
i. frail bird. i got surgery on tuesday. not for the sake of this poem; for the sake of something they didn't actually find. there's a joke in there, about my past, but you and i shouldn't talk about what we've already learned to swallow. i have 3 incisions. it took me 3 times to spell "incision" right.
ii. regardless of how big the wound is, you shouldn't make a fuss over it. when you are the wound, the whole world is sharper. that doesn't mean you need to whine about it. all you should get is over it.
iii. there are big puffy birds that love the feeder outside my childhood house. my father meticulously cares for them, pride of his life. something my friend said recently has been sticking inside of me, sweetly tender: the hardest thing is remembering even the bad people have good moments.
iv. reconciliation - another hard word to spell. from latin. to bring back together. i have forced this body through a lot. i have made her reconcile skin over and over again. the first time i showered after the operation, i knew just how to stand to avoid the sting of water - i did it without thinking. on instinct. there are people who know where i learned this from. you and i shouldn't talk about it, it's not proper.
v. my father feeds the birds. there are open secrets in this house, bleeding into our centers. we pick the scabs only when there's truly nothing else for it; otherwise we let it rot and fester. better the devil you know. better to let uncomfortable be the standard. i don't know where i learned this. above all else, we value silence.
vi. there isn't a good way out of this poem; it doesn't end.
vii. you and i know what happened, but let's not talk about it.
one thing i have been trying to teach myself lately is that i am enough whenever. i am always, all the time enough. i am enough when i don’t like myself, i am enough when i don’t look presentable, i am enough when i’m not ready to face my demons. you don’t have to do certain things such as working out 5x a week, journal and meditate every night or be good at school to be enough and worthy of love. whatever state you are in right now is enough. you are deserving of a relationship, a good life and everything else at any given time.
nothing makes me cry like the embankment tube station voiceover story !!! nothing !!!!!!!

Don’t try to become the girl of anyone’s dreams. Become the woman of your own dreams. Nurture the little girl you once were and make her proud. Nourish the goddess in you. Find the muse in yourself and love her fiercely. Build a deep love for yourself.
too much self reflection is not a good thing honestly. go outside and plant a garden and then cook yourself a homemade dinner then mop the floors and change your sheets and take a hot shower then you won’t care so much
in 2022 may you find many seeds, nuts, berries, etc
I didn’t even look at the name I was just like damn I hope so too thanks

When I lived in the mountains, I thought the same color meant the same taste. Tangerines oranges and the sun. Citrus.
When I saw my great-grandmother peel a tangerine with her bare hands while men used knives for oranges, she became God. I imagined what she could do with the sun.

[fragments of vincent's letter (363) to theo // the olive trees by vincent van gogh]
sometimes i think about the golden record and i want to cry
there is a disk. it is 12 inches in diameter, it is made of copper, plated with gold. there is an inscription— "To the makers of music – all worlds, all times" on its surface. it lies on the space probe, Voyager 1, launched in 1977, to explore interstellar space beyond our solar system.
it contains human existence.
116 images— the sun, the location of our solar system, mathematical and physical unit definitions, and our planets, including a blue and swirling white sphere simply labelled "Home." it contains images of human dna, of our atoms, their structure, the way they divide, our anatomy, our conception, our birth.
it does not contain an image of war. nor of disease, nor poverty, nor crime, religion, or ideology.
it does contain a father looking lovingly at his daughter. it does contain the picture of a tree toad in a gentle hand, of a woman eating a grape at a supermarket.
the remainder of the disk is audio. a 90-minute selection of music from all over the world, sounds, and greetings. there are greetings in 55 different languages, one akkadian, spoken in sumer about six thousand years ago, and one wu, a modern chinese dialect. the greetings call out to a friend. it wishes them well. it asks them if they have eaten yet.
but it contains other sounds too. it holds the sound of rain, of thunder, of a volcano and an earthquake. it holds the sound of mud pots and trains. it holds the sound of a mother kissing her child.
with little to erode it in space, the golden record would probably outlast all human creation. it will be 40,000 years before it approaches another planetary system. if it does, it cannot find intelligent life. intelligent life will have to find it, retrieve it from where it floats silent and small through space. we still don't know if they would understand it.
in 7.5 billion years, the evolution of the sun would burn the earth up, and we would not exist any longer, but the voyager would fly on, bearing a memory.
bearing a disk with a little inscription etched by hand on its surface.
