He picked me up and we drove to the town over . He took me to one of his favorite spots- this beautiful river that feeds into the ocean. He said he doesn’t usually bring people here, but he thought I would like it. We hiked up the river bed and found the deep pools for swimming. He opened a bottle of red wine and poured us both a cup. We sat in the creek and talked until sunset, letting out little squeaks when fish would nibble at our skin.
The sunset was SO beautiful , one of those that lit up everything in an orange glow. I asked him, “do you know what alpenglow is?”. He replied , “I think so.. but I want to hear you describe it.” And so I described what the light does during dusk in the mountains , how sometimes the light is glowing so beautiful it lights up the side of the mountains in an amber spotlight. I told him, “that’s what the sun is doing to your skin right now, an alpenglow”. He smiled and leaned into kiss me, saying how sweet of a person I am.
I got excited when the conversation moved to whales and exclaimed how whales are my second favorite animal (second to horses). He looked at me with an incredulous expression, so much so that I asked what. He said, “Can I kiss you for that?” I said, “For what? Loving whales” and he nodded with a “yes”. I giggled as we kissed because never had I ever met someone who loved my love for whales.
I really wanted to boop the ocean so we went to the ocean side for the last light. The tide was high so the waves were very strong, even at a knee deep depth they were knocking me over so I had to hold onto him for safety. We went back to the car and went to dinner before checking into our room. We walked out back of the hotel and found a hammock with a perfect view of the ocean. We laid in that for awhile, talking and cuddling and taking in the ocean and sky all at once.
We went back to the room and I hopped in the shower. I came out of the room in only a towel and sat next to him on the bed. One thing led to another as such things do, but it was all so slow and unhurried and exquisite.
The morning was also slow, he just wanted to drink me in, asking me to sit when I tried to get up to get ready. His gaze softly memorized my curves , his touch following. We shared the most tender kisses. Eventually, we did have to get ready for the day. I was sitting on the bed when he came out from the shower. Sitting in front of me and taking my hands in his , he thanked me for being such a kind and sweet and beautiful soul. He told me how happy he was we met and how it truly feels like we know each other somehow. He was so earnest and sweet while talking that it brought me to tears. He kissed his hand, put it over his heart then moved his hand over mine .
When driving me back to the villa, he played “ILY” by Kapo. I couldn’t understand the Spanish lyrics but still, my heart swelled. When we reached the villa, we kissed goodbye. I didnt hold onto the goodbye or to him, despite the ache in my entire body. The question , the lesson for me in it was : could I leave as gracefully and openly as I arrived?
I gathered my bags, leaned over the console for one last kiss then walked away. I glanced back with a smile, then I turned around one last time before I stepped back into reality and woke up from what felt like a dream.
