My new car. Been called my 'early mid-life crisis car' lol, but I'm so in love with her

People who write in their books, can you please share with me why you do it and how you get there?
I see books as.. their own being, I think. I like maintaining them pretty, beautiful, especially hard covers. Occasionally I am okay with a paperback showing signs of being read, of being carried around, but that is also rare. I usually carry them in a sleeve or a paper bag to protect them..
But I also see people taking notes and… getting a different experience from reading when they take notes? So I would like to hear from you if you find this. I need arguments, pros, examples… I would really appreciate 🙏
I've only fairly recently started writing in my books - underlining, annotating, and just writing thoughts as I'm reading.
I used to hate the thought of writing in books, until I started shopping for second hand books, and realised I absolutely loved it when I found used books with someone else's handwriting in them.
Like, that book has been read by, and loved or hated by, someone else. Someone else in this world, dead or alive, has shared their thoughts, or underlined important or beautiful quotes in the book. And I can hold that, and see a small piece of someone else I will never know.
I'm a sucker for romanticising everyday things in life. And I feel like this is one of them. I started small, just underlining things in pencil. And now I've moved on to putting little annotations in the margins. At some point, I think I'd like to use pen, as it may last longer. And I've seen an interview with Cillian Murphy recently, where he says he always writes his name in his books, along with the date he bought it, and where he bought it, bc he said his dad did it, and it was nice to read his dad's books and see the history in them. I'm going to start doing this from now on.
A book owned by someone is a piece of history. A good book should be well loved and read. I want to find books in charity shops that have the thoughts and feelings of someone else in them. A pristine book can be nice, and will sell better. But I know I'm not going to sell my books, so why keep them pristine? Instead my books will be brought to life by my thoughts and feelings, and people can get to see little parts of me should they ever read them
Why is her comment at the end of the headline so funny 😂
