For those old enough to remember the Bush years, that was scary too.  We were waiting for martial law, the Patriot Act happened, Muslims were assaulted, the USA invaded multiple regions to secure their natural resources under the guise of retaliatory attacks, protestors were worried about getting abducted, and that was when the police state started going Robocop.  It was a neverending hell.  Those fuckers were more competent than Trump, they weren’t at all shy about being fascists and being associated with white supremacists, and they helped lay the groundwork for him and also corrupt things further to make them easier to break apart.

The feeling I’m having today is different from the feeling when Obama got elected (we were worried it wouldn’t happen because GW had talked about needing three terms and we weren’t sure he wouldn’t pull a coup).  I was more hopeful then, more naive still, but also, I hadn’t been here already. 

This is a cycle.  If this keeps going, it doesn’t get better, it gets worse.  It keeps getting worse.  It will keep getting worse until that cycle is broken in some way.

Wouldn’t it be nice to not have to constantly fight for your right to exist?

Wouldn’t it be nice to not have to be tugged back and forth by the whims of old white cis people?

Wouldn’t it be nice to have some form of social organization that actually brought benefit to people?

Those things are all possible.  And we need to do something, and we need to do it now, because this time the Democrats are worse, and next time they put a Republican in he’ll be way more competent, he’ll be the antichrist and they’ll call him Jesus.

We can’t go through this again.
