Mel was surprised to hear Hayden call out to her after class, she was usually such a pain in the ass during class that most teacher couldn’t wait to get her out of the way. “It would be,” she said with a grin, dropping her bag to the floor as the rest of the students left to go to their next class. “I have a class to go to, but, luckily for you, I happen to plan on winning student with the most tardies this year.” The brunette made her way to the front of the class, taking a look at the painting. “What about a spell? I can fix that for you in a few seconds tops.”
╰ ☼ hayden almost immediately regretted asking for help when the other mentioned tardiness. the last thing she needed was for a student to get in trouble because she couldn’t keep two of her students from fighting during her class. “if you’re going to get in trouble for staying then you should go, i think it’s safe to say that we both don’t need the hassle of another teacher being mad.” she tugged the cuffs of her sleeves down past her knuckles out of habit as she stood beside her desk. “--- are you sure? i mean, i have complete faith in your abilities of spell casting, melinda, but i’d rather not have the painting suffer more damage, you know? are you... sure?”
“You know what they say–two’s a crowd, three’s a party,” Sliding down in her chair, she stretched her foot under the desk and pushed the out the chair on the opposite side. “–and know I could never say no to your company. Accident reports don’t file themselves yet. What’s got you here so late?”
╰ ☼ "i wasn’t really a party goer,” hayden chuckled, “so that saying is quite foreign to me. i understand the sentiment, though. there’s that at least.” when the chair was offered, she sat down and passed over one of the mugs then made herself comfortable. “glad to hear it, i think it would suck if it weren’t the case,” the whitelighter smiled then took a long sip from her own mug. “i didn’t have any plans so thought i’d get on top of my marking and lesson plans. turns out, i’ve already done that -- so... here i am.”
“Perhaps, one idea…” Toby mused, thoughtfully tapping her chin. She came in for a closer look. A frown creased her forehead. “Such a shame, it really is a beautiful piece.” Her sights turned toward the other whitelighter, a playful smirk teased at her lips. “Although on the other hand, you really should be proud your class brings out the, ah, potential in your students.”
╰ ☼ “one idea, huh?” hayden watched the other curiously, her head bobbing forward in agreement. “it’s one of my favourites, actually,” she approached the brunette and folded her arms across her chest, looking at the piece once more. “i wouldn’t exactly say proud is the right word,” she laughed. “especially considering everything that i teach is theoretical. i have absolutely no idea how this stuff keeps happening to me. i guess i have to work on my crowd control skills.” which, if you think about it, is quite ironic considering she used to be a police officer.
Enoch raised an eyebrow at the reply, before relaxing as he realized just who it was, although it was hardly obvious his demeanor had changed at all. “I wouldn’t have guessed”, Enoch put his pen down, as she brought the cups of coffee to his attention. “It’s much appreciated” he nodded, welcoming her into his office. “You must be fairly desperate to turn to me for company? How late is it exactly?”
╰ ☼ "why’s that?” hayden chuckled as she walked in and placed one of the mugs on his desk, she then placed her free hand onto her own and cradled it to her chest before taking a small sip of the hot liquid. “not desperate, no,” she shook her head. “it’s almost eight, i guess,” she glanced down at her watch and nodded at herself, confirming that she had guessed the right time. “i figured you’d still be here and i was making a cup for myself so thought i’d make you one since i had the time. how much marking do you have left to do?”
There was a knock on his office door, and Enoch didn’t even bother to look up, instead taking a guess as to what exactly was at the door, “The essay was due yesterday and I shan’t be granting any extensions.” After a rather annoying encounter with a student only a few minutes ago, with the student daring to make up some half-hearted excuse as to why their essay hadn’t been submitted yet, Enoch was in no mood to repeat himself.
╰ ☼ “you’d be about twelve years late in waiting for any work from me, earl,” hayden chuckled from the door. “though, to be fair, i was the kid who completed her homework on the night that it was handed out, so...” she shrugged as her shoulder met the door frame, her hands wiggling two mugs of fresh coffee at the male. “figured you’d still be working so i brought fresh coffee. got five minutes to spare?”
╰ ☼ OC: Did you see CHYLER LEIGH roaming these endless halls? Maybe it was just HAYDEN SCOTT. SHE is THIRTY and is known to be a WHITELIGHTER who also teaches WHITELIGHTER THEORY. They are known for being COMMITTED but when the tables are turned they can be SELF-DEPRECATING.
she’s the type of person that was born to be a guardian angel™
hayden is the oldest of four scott kids so had always felt like she had to look after and protect those that came after her, especially when their mother didn’t do much and their father was overseas with the army
her family were witches, but hayden never really involved herself in that side of life, she liked the thrill and magic of a mundane life so chose to live without it’s uses
it was her dream to serve her country like her father but when it came to it she failed the physical as she was born with a heart condition known as ventricular septal defect (vsd) therefore was disqualified from joining
this didn’t stop her, though, she felt compelled to protect and serve in any way, shape or form possible and eventually attended the police academy and graduated in the top percentile of her class in terms of intelligence, though again, her physical elements often fell short of the others in her class, but it didn’t deter her
she eventually became a san fransisco police officer but was often assigned to in-house duties and computer work and, for a while that was okay, but then a case came in that involved a minor that had been unsolved for five months and counting
she couldn’t just sit there and log the reports like she normally would, she had to help so she did, she practically begged to be included in the case and she and the other officers and federal agents worked for another three months until they finally got a lead that garnered results
however, hayden had ignored the instructions to stay with the cars and involved herself in the fight when gunshots were heard
she ran into the thick of it and threw her body over the kid as shots continued to be fired from both sides, and it was these actions that ultimately led to hayden being killed in the process, but the girl was saved and her death would always mark the beginning of a new life for a girl who had grown to believe she would never have one again
after death, hayden was informed that she had fulfilled her purpose and that she had two choices: move on or become a whitelighter
she chose the latter under the guise that her family needed her now that their parents were dead, but in reality she was terrified of what the ‘other side’ would present her with so she opted to remain on earth to continue protecting and serving, but just in a different capacity this time
she’s a complete pacifist and only really fights when she has to, her first instincts are to protect others before harm - she tries to always find a different way to approach a situation that would normally call for violence
her main role in the school is to teach, nurture and prepare young whitelighters when it comes to their future charges and protecting the witching community
╰ ☼ once the class had ended, hayden climbed onto the stool and reached up, promptly tugging the soiled painting from the wall. for someone who taught a class mostly based on theory, her classroom still fell victim to the powers of her students, this time it was the turn of her favoured painting of the golden gate bridge. “--- got any tips on how to fix this?” she glanced over her shoulder and addressed the person who had just appeared. “it’d be a shame to see it go.”
School hours had come and gone, but as per usual, Toby stayed late. The fireball incident that afternoon left her with a second and third degree burns to heal, not to mention the mountain of accident report paperwork to fill out. Only now was she able to dig into her lunch at last.
“A moment to enjoy some peace and quiet,” She murmured to herself. Footsteps echoed in the hallway. Toby stilled as they grew louder, nearing her office door. “Probably just a moment, though…”
╰ ☼ “--- summers, what are you doing cooped up in here?” hayden had been on her way out when she noticed a fellow staff member sitting alone in an empty room. diverting her course, she stopped at the door and smiled at the brunette. “am i... disturbing something? need company? or anything, really?”
