maggie finding alex wearing her clothes
Maggie had BETTER TASTE in clothes when it boiled down to it. Alex wore what was comfortable and what was clean at the time, but this occasion seemed to call for something… CLASSIER than the flannel that took up at least eighty percent of her wardrobe. Luckily for Alex, she and Maggie shared a similar affinity for various items of clothing and how one’s wardrobe should be arranged, so it wasn’t entirely hard to navigate the items in Maggie’s bedroom to find what she had been looking for.
The sound of keys rattling against the ceramic bowl behind the door alerted Alex to the fact that her girlfriend had FINALLY arrived home from work, and honestly, it couldn’t have been a moment sooner. She was impatient, jittery – those TWO COFFEES from her morning shift and lunch with Kara were definitely considered to be firmly in the ‘BAD IDEA’ jar that she kept in her head. “In here!” Alex called out before Maggie could even question her whereabouts, fingers nervously attempting to flatten the fabric that coated her stomach.
“Danvers, hey – are you wearing MY dress?” Maggie arched a brow as white socked feet padded across the room, bringing her closer to the taller female. “Not that I’m complaining or anything,” she then went on to add. One look at the twinkle in Maggie’s eyes confirmed that Maggie would NEVER complain at such a beautiful sight. “You said you were coming over to get ready for dinner. I thought you meant like put a pizza on or something.”
“Pffft,” Alex shook her head. She knew better than to offer to make pizza while in Maggie’s apartment, she pretty much did EVERYTHING in her power to avoid it. Vegan pizza was disgusting and Alex outright refused to eat it again. “I mean, we ARE going to eat dinner, but… not here. We’re going out. Like, out out. I booked us a table at a fancy restaurant and it’s going to be nice and the food there is great and I hear that they even have a live band every other day so if we’re lucky we might catch them playing and the food is great…”
“Alex, you’re RAMBLING. What are you talking about?”
“— I called your parents. They’re… HERE. In National City. I uh – I thought you’d take the news better if I was wearing something nice… something of yours. Well, not really thought. I more… HOPED that it would make it easier to hear. I’m sorry, okay? I am, I really am. I just… I want – no, NEED, to show them what they’re missing. That their daughter is the greatest person I’ve ever known and I just —”
“Danvers, I specifically TOLD YOU that I was fine not seeing them again. I —” Big brown eyes were staring into the officer’s much like a puppy would do when looking for attention or approval. She knew that Alex’s heart was in the right place, but knowing and actually feeling the consequences of such an act were two very different things, and Alex had NO IDEA of the full extent of what she had just dived into.
“I just want to know EVERY PART of you, Maggie,” Alex’s voice was quiet as nervous hands fidgeted with the officer’s dress that she was wearing. “I just wanted them to know how much I L O V E their daughter. As a woman; as a person. Also… dress.”
Shaking her head, Maggie conceded to the younger woman’s softness. She meant well and her heart was in the right place, so she couldn’t really be mad at that, could she? She would punch it out later when she attends the gym, but for now her hands were busy removing Alex’s hands from her dress. “You’re going to tear a stitch or something if you don’t stop,” fingers interlocked as Maggie FINALLY looked up into Alex’s familiar orbs. “You should keep it. I only wore it once and it looks better on you, anyway.”
Alex nodded slowly and exhaled the air that she hadn’t even realised she had been holding in hamster-like cheeks. She dropped her head forward and rested her forehead against the other’s, smiling softly.
“For the record, you’re ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING, Alex Danvers.”
alex falling asleep with her head in maggie's lap
To be fair, it had been A LONG DAY and Alex had expended all of her energy in bringing in a suspect that had involved running, a short car chase and some hand-to-hand combat. By the time she had shoved her uniform back into her locker, the agent was ready to curl up on the bench and just sleep for days, but she couldn’t. It was DATE NIGHT with Maggie and it was her girlfriend’s turn to choose the movie – though, in reality, when was it ever not Maggie’s choice in regards to what they watched – so she had forced herself to leave the building and go home. THEIR HOME.
In her own opinion, she had done well to make it through to dessert, though she could feel the metaphorical curtain falling. For a while, she would find herself blinking rapidly just to be able to KEEP UP with whatever was happening on screen, or when Maggie was sharing something that had happened at work, but then it all descended into a buzz of white noise and her heavy lids finally won out.
It didn’t take long for Maggie to notice that the vague acknowledgement of her side of the conversation had fallen silent and, with one slow and precise movement, she was able to move their dessert bowls to the side as Alex practically toppled sideways as a result of the small shift. It took EVERYTHING in Maggie’s arsenal to not laugh as she helped the groggy agent set her head down on the officer’s lap.
“It’s okay, Danvers,” Maggie lightly swept her fingers through the familiar locks of reddish hair when the taller of the two stirred. “Sleep, I’LL BE HERE when you wake up.”
“You… you promise?” Alex half mumbled, barely able to form the words as the sides of her mouth drooped from the tiredness that had gripped every single fibre of her being.
Lips stretched wide as the trademark smile of Maggie Sawyer graced the room. She shook her head lightly and continued to play with Alex’s hair, soothing the red head further into sleep. One glance down to the steady rising and falling of her chest told Maggie everything she needed to know, and with a elongated exhale, she relaxed into the back of the couch; they were going to be there ALL NIGHT now, probably. Might as well make herself comfortable.
“Always.”
maggie and alex sharing a dessert
When it came to food, Alex had a FIRM BELIEF in that anything that was on her plate was HER PROPERTY and whomever tried to take from it would lose one of both of their hands. It had become a game over the years between the Danvers sisters; Kara would ATTEMPT to take what was on Alex’s plate before the DEO agent could clock on. Kara had even gone as far as calling her the Joey Tribbiani of Midvale and National City, a title that once gave life to one particular Halloween costume. She didn’t like to share when it came to desserts, especially ones that involved banoffee.
So, when Maggie’s spoon took a dive into Alex’s ‘property’, her first instinct was to move her plate away, but she didn’t. In fact, the twenty-eight year old pushed it closer so that the smaller woman didn’t have to stretch so far. The combination of their quiet night, the ambience of a romantically lit apartment and their intertwined legs while they watched a movie, each holding a bowl that held a dessert they had bought for each other (vegan cheesecake for Maggie, banoffee pie for Alex), and the dimples that Alex was sure that housed a hidden passageway to the other side of the world, was enough for Alex to relax and disregard her previous barriers to sharing.
“— A sweet for my sweet lady,” Alex smiled at the other as she watched her tuck into what was once hers.
“That was CHEESIER THAN MY CHEESECAKE, Danvers,” Maggie wrinkled her nose. Then, without warning, she dabbed a bit of cream on the agent’s nose. “Cute.”
“Obviously,” Alex’s eyes crossed as she looked down at the white blob now distorting her once perfect vision of Maggie. “There’s NO CHEESE in that damn thing.”
“— Just eat your damn pie, Danvers.”
“She said how lucky I am to have you.”
ALEX DANVERS IN 2X19
“Those firsts that you talked about, I want to have them all with you. I never want to stop having firsts with you. I love you, Maggie Sawyer.”
