he found her in the training room where routine and repetition take hold. over and over again until physical exhaustion outweighs everything else. at first she wasn't going to stop, she's not in the mood to talk. but he stayed there so long she dropped her gloves with an eye roll to sit beside him on the floor. he's persistent, she'll give him credit.

the coolness of the wall is comforting against her back. her head tilts back, skull pressing against the drywall. tired is the only way to express how she feels. stretched too thin, pushing herself too far. all for what? things are suppose to be easier now.

he starts speaking and yelena listens but she doesn't say anything. quiet, jaw fixed. if she was being honest, bucky's not the reason she's all out of sorts. his departure didn't help, sure, but it isn't the catalyst for the breakdown that's soon to come. inevitable, approaching, it's just on the horizon. one minute she's angry, the next she feels hollow. angry then numb. she thinks she's dissociating again, she feels like a stranger in her skin, an outsider looking in.

there's along pause before she speaks. she doesn't want to cut him with her words. not this time. she's trying to speak openly, honestly. "how many more times do i have to be hurt?"

she doesn't look at him, she's staring ahead. eyes fixed on a point on the wall straight ahead of them. "my dad was my favourite person too." why is she telling him this? she's supposed to be mad at him. "he coached my soccer team when we were kids, he showed up for everything. never missed a game, school event, nothing. he was there every night to put me to bed, snuck me fruit snacks when melina wasn't looking. he had a cd in his truck called 'yelena's songs' and he'd sing them on the top of his lungs with me over and over again. i loved him, he was my hero, he was everything to me."

she's gnawing on her lip now, bouncing her knee out of habit. she doesn't like this at all, she doesn't know why she keeps going. "and then he just handed me over. i was six. i watched my dad hand me over to a bunch of men i didn't know. there were so many of us crammed in that storage container, guns pointed at us. i was so scared. nat knew, told me if i didn't stop crying for my parents they were going to kill me. i was terrified. then, we got separated too and i was alone."

she's staring up at the ceiling. is she blinking away tears? she wouldn't dare cry. yelena does not cry. "and the worst part is? he didn't look like he regretted it. he looked relieved. the mission was over for him. finally fucking over. his hands were finally clean of me."

"i know now there was more at play. alexei, melina, they were manipulated too. so i gave him another chance. we were all free, it could be different. but i disappeared, natasha died and he left me too. he left me again. he didn't come around until i got all of this, until i proved myself. if i leave, he'll disappear again. all he wants is fame and glory. the stupid title of an avenger. i don't matter. i don't want any of this, bucky. i don't want to be here anymore."

   A silver bullet clinks onto the tray below her. White teeth grit and she holds her breath as a wet cloth comes into contact with her skin. The area around the wound felt as if it was burning, only to be cooled with the damp towel. Sith's eyes fell to the floor, her shoulders tense.

   ❝ Do me a favor - If there was a situation where you had to kill me, don't shoot me. Guns are so boring. ❞

   Yelena's willingness to patch her up felt strange. It makes her recall to being back in the weapons program. Located deep within the Canadian wilderness, Nessa was once training to become the governments new killer toy. Nurses were usually in charge of patching the mutant up after failing one of their varying tests. Siting on the edge of the motel bathtub, her hands grip onto the pink tile and she debates on what to say next.

   ❝ I'd rather you be creative. Kill me final destination style, throw me into a wood chipper. I dunno . . . ❞

❝ guns are boring? ❞ she scoffs but she's grinning, cleansing the wound as she speaks. ❝ i think they're pretty efficient. i'll keep it in mind though.❞

her hands are steady as she begins stitching the wound. practiced, precise. she's been patching wounds since she was a child. she had no other choice ... learn to patch your own wounds or bleed out and die. with no other options, yelena learned quick. some wounds were inflicted intentionally, a lesson for her to learn and others came from her own mistakes. either way, she's gotten quite good at this.

❝ you ever watch those movies? i only watched the first one but there was that one guy who died in the bathtub ... i don't have a clothes line on me but that could work. ❞ she nudges her head in the direction of the shower head.

❝ not that i'm planning on killing you ... ❞ she says it casually, dropping the needle on the counter when she's done.
