Can You Shut up and Just Tell Me What to Do? (Part IV)
Last one, I promise. (Maybe one on Brussels, but probably won’t happen)
Paris, France
To Do: ** IF YOU ARE AN EU CITIZEN / HAVE A VISA FOR EUROPE BRING THIS TO ALL MUSEUMS BECAUSE YOU’LL GET IN FOR FREE**
Louvre Museum – because you’re supposed to do this when in Paris, but it’s so large so plan what you want to see before you actually go or you’ll just wander around lost.
Muse D’Orsay – Probably my favorite museum in Paris. Also quite large, but much more manageable than the Louvre. Don’t forget to snap a photo of the clock cause it’s famous and you’ll look super artsy.
Rodin Museum – When I went the permanent exhibit was under renovation so I got to only really see the gardens which were worth it. Pay for the gardens and take a stroll to enjoy Rodin’s masterpieces.
Notre Dame Cathedral – Yeah, the line is going to be long and yeah, you’ve probably already seen a thousand churches before this but it is the Notre Dame.
Sacré-Cœur – Go for the views. The basilica is also extremely impressive.
Arc de Triomphe – Can climb to the top for a lovely view of the Champs-Élysées (but it’s probably packed with tourists)
Eiffel Tower – lol, almost forgot about this one. Like I said in my blog post, it’s much more impressive in person. Go at dusk, right when the lights are turning on and stay for the 10 PM light show. BYOB.
Centre Pompidou – Museum for modern art. Go just for the building and if you really want to see some weird art, go inside.
Versailles – Do a day trip. It’s easy to get to and it’s simply magnificent with the expansive gardens. You should just purposely get lost there and see if you can live there (probably won’t happen).
Jardin Tuileries - right by the Louvre, it’s quite lovely, though more touristy and busy than other jardins.
Jardin Luxembourg – Though I didn’t get the chance to visit it, I hear it’s one of the best jardins in Paris.
Pont des Arts Bridge – The love lock bridge but it was recently taken down so...that’s over. But the hundreds of bridges in Paris are all nice so screw the cliché love lock one/ all the other bridges have locks on them too.
Montmartre – Walk around this neighborhood for a more local feel
Moulin Rouge - Underwhelming in person; not sure how the shows actually are.
To Eat: I ate like a poor college student in Paris, so I wouldn't really listen to this list.
Le Refuge des Fondu - Now touristy restaurant that serves wine in baby bottles and pretty delicious fondue. Prix fixe of about 25 euros?
Marche des Enfants Rouge - Oldest covered street market. I didn't get to go but supposedly some of the best Moroccan food is here.
Relais de l'Entrecôte Saint Germain - Also missed the chance to go here, but steak-frites! Only thing on the menu, just tell them how you like your steak done.
Chipotle - Because you're a basic American bitch that needs her (his?) dose of Chipotle. Nearly not as good or as big as the ones in America, but whatever, you're desperate.
To Drink: Another bad list, because I felt too poor at the time.
Buddah Bar - oh you fancy, huh? Supposedly the (20 euro) cocktails are to die for.
Le Comptoir General - trendy. hip. local. (but we didn't get in). Club at night, cafe/lounge at day.
There are lots of clubs in the Montmarte area and closer to the university, so check that out.
Lisbon, Portugal
To Do:
São Jorge Castle - Go for the views and those crazy peacocks that roam around the grounds. Simply a beautiful place.
Sit by the water for a view of the 25 de Abril Bridge
Day Trip to Sintra - worth it, so so worth it. You can probably do 2 main places in one day. I suggest Quinta Da Regaleira and Pena National Palace.
Day Trip to a beach - Lots of options so do your research. Generally the further you go from Lisbon, the less people that will be there (and more beautiful the beaches are)
Feira da Ladra - Flea market with random knick-knacks; held every Tuesday and Saturday
Just walk around the different districts.
See a Fado show in Alfama
Arco da Rua Augusta - Some famous arch near the water; go for the nice, ocean breeze.
To Eat:
Restaurante Farol de Santa Luzia - Everyday I dream of going back to this restaurant. The fish literally melts in your mouth and the restaurant's atmosphere is perfect. Also, it's in a great location to just take a stroll afterwards in the Alfama district.
da Prata 52 - Close to the arch; a beautiful, modern restaurant, tapas style. The fois gras is to die for. I don't know, just eat it all.
Pastel de nata - There's got to be crack in these pastries. Supposedly the best ones are at Pasteis de Belém (a town about 10 minutes away).
To Drink:
Park - Rooftop bar on top of an old parking lot. Sick vibes, sick views.
Lux - The big club in Lisbon.
Porto - The wine of Portugal.
Bairro Alto - Bar hop around here - cheap bars where everyone stands outside and drinks.
Prague, Czech Republic
To See:
Charles Bridge - but do it either at sunrise or night. It's prettier and emptier.
Prague Castle - Like everything touristy is up here? Personally, I found it overrated, but the views are quite nice and you get to experience some history (Defenestration of Prague, yo).
Old Town Square - tourist-central. Stay to see the clock do its thing every hour.
Petrin - Huge park with a large hill that I highly advise you take the train up because climbing up it would be a bitch.
Lennon Wall - Touristy but do it and bring paint if you wanna be hella cool.
Old Jewish Cemetery - I didn't see it, but supposedly a very interesting cemetery in how they made space to bury people.
St. Vitus Cathedral - Famous church...(Don't know why)
Lobkowicz Museum - Get a taste of what it meant to be part of a rich, royal family
Honestly, take a walking tour because you'll see like the majority of Prague.
To Eat:
Mlsnej Kocour - Good, authentic Czech food that's really affordable. Get the ribs and the duck.
Dish - If you're feeling burgers and some gin and tonics, then this is your place.
Chimney Cake - Actually has Hungarian origins, but all we ate in Prague was this shit.
Cafe Savoy - The best french toast I've ever had in my life. splurge. splurge. splurge.
To Drink:
Cross Club - my friend highly suggested this club/bar and I regret not going.
Chapeau Rouge - 3 floor club/bar. Went on a Monday so it wasn't as popping.
Karlovy lázně - Largest club in Prague but overrun with tourists.
Vinárna U Sudu - Famous huge, underground bar.
Vytopna Railway Restaurant - Stupid, but model trains bring your drink to your table (so worth it?)
Yay, all done. My lists probably got worse as time went on...
