cancel your mullvad subscription
tech news today is that Mullvad VPN has gone mask-off about being the major funding source for the Swedish Orebro party, who are racist nationalists. unfortunately all discussion of this is occurring on fucking Mastodon instances i can barely load
if you are a mullvad customer (as i am) and want to get out, here is guidance from this guy
If you don't want your Mullvad fees going to fund neo-Nazis - or @mozilla VPN fees, which is rebranded Mullvad - cancel and get a refund immediately that's whose "free speech" the official account is talking about here, and that's where your fees go to EDIT: Mullvad has a 14 day refund policy. But the message below is a direct call to ask for a refund if you don't want to give money to Nazis. If Mullvad refuse a refund, call your consumer protection agency. And reverse credit card charges on the basis of deceptive refund policy representations. It's not like you ever want to be a Mullvad customer again. archive copy of Mullvad statement: https://web.archive.org/web/2026062717
before my egg cracked, i had noticed that trans people were often pro-accessibility and up-to-date on the needs of disabled people, but i hadnāt seen any inherent connection between the two (other than the obvious minority-looking-out-for-other-minority thing). but now that iām trans and medically transitioning, and i have to constantly repeat myself while talking to doctors and nurses, and explain things about my own anatomy to medical staff who should already know this, and having every single problem i might have blamed on myĀ āconditionā so nothing i say is taken seriously, all of the sudden i have a little sneak peak into the life of someone who has to deal with this all the time. like shit bro, being disabled probably sucks ass, someone should do something about this
happy disability pride month, we all deserve autonomy and respect and access to medication
as a teen, i was constantly harassed by adults enforcing ''dress codes'' on me. I very much experienced this as sexual harassment. I think this is one of many cases where people would more easily understand this as sexual harassment if I described it as if it happened to an adult.
imagine being on your lunch break, and your supervisor comes over to your table, tells you to stand up in front of everyone. they draw everyone's attention to your thighs. they tell you that you have broken the dress code because of the length of your shorts. they tell you to go change (so you do not get the rest of your lunch break). they do this every single day at lunch. every day. so you read the whole dress code front and back, and you choose your clothing carefully to not break it. you bring a cloth tape measure with you to work because they will not believe you. this time when your supervisor tells you that you're breaking dress code, you pull out your tape measure and show that you are within the limit. your supervisor says "I bet you wouldn't want me to bring you to the boss and let him measure it, would you?" it's clearly a threat: if you don't obey then you will be put alone in a room with your boss and he will touch your thighs. you don't know how to respond. you're taken out of lunch again.
this was my experience at school. replace supervisor with "teacher" and boss with "principal." this was sexual harassment. fuck dress codes.
Experiencing this daily and wanting to understand why it applied to one gender but not the other only to find out that, according to the adults in the room, everyone is sexualizing you all of the time for basically just existing visibly with did not help btw.
Friend of mine was submitting a job application and discovered that they REQUIRED a photo:
Weāre trying to decide which of these is a better option:
or
i do think the negative interpretations of "im probably nonbinary but i have a job right now" are kind of reaching. it's obviously a waste of time to theorize the op's intended meaning, so instead i think it's better to recognize how the phrase can be a useful framing device to criticize how much of a fucking hassle it is to get gendered correctly. "but i have a job" e.g. will face discrimination that could threaten livelihood; e.g. don't have the mental bandwidth to explain gender to others; e.g. don't have the time and energy for the soul-searching necessary to confirm. all three of these are labor issues. yes you could interpret it as "but being nonbinary isn't important enough to worry about", despite that being a blatantly bad-faith read. it's more useful to interpret it as "but being publicly nonbinary requires a lot of social effort that, in many cultural contexts, will create more problems that you can't afford to deal with". like cmon it's a really good jumping off point for productive conversations about queer labor rights

Because I feel like kids of color donāt hear it enough: domestic abuse is not a part of your culture.Ā
A lot of us were raised with the idea thatĀ āits normal for wives/children to get hit! it helps them learnā only white folk donāt get beaten when they misbehaveā.Ā Thatās not true, white people arenāt the only ones who deserve a safe and abuse free environment. Black and brown people can and do have loving families.Ā
If youāre in a situation where you are enduring abuse and people use your culture to justify it, I want you to know that what theyāre telling you are lies.
as someone who studies this: statistically speaking, child abuse (including āspankingā, because all forms of hitting children are abusive) is pretty much equally prevalent in households of all racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. so yeah, donāt let people use the ācultureā excuse on you, but also, donāt believe others are experiencing it less just because itās less normalized in their culture to talk about it. we all gotta work together to fix this shit.
All the black & latino ppl who joked about Miles Morales saying āWhateverā to his parents, saying that he should āknow he cant get away with that like white kids canā and ālmao did he forget that heās black/has a latina mom???ā
You arenāt better behaved because your parents beat you. āKnowing your placeā did not make you more dignified than white children, you were being needlessly abused.
Youāre completely correct. Out of my way, able-bodied losers. Fuck you.
It's called an EZRide+ and you can learn where to find them here. They're about $1100 US as of June 2026, but you might need to buy additional parts to attach them to your chair, depending on the style of chair.
Remember to put links to products like this, they're usually hard to find and a lot of people need to know they exist.
Scientists invented a fake disease. AI told people it was real: Nature.com
I'm a bit frightened for the time when someone less ethical than the person that did this decides to repeat the experiment but leave out the part where they come in later and announce that it was fake and people wind up diagnosed with the fake condition and all kinds of wacky hi jinks ensues.
Arrest everyone involved.
Money saved: maybe a couple million dollars.
People killed: around three quarters of a million.
Money saved: fucking nothing when you account for all the damage done, like the sudden infestation of screwflies and the deterioration of the weather prediction services.
(this makes the mass death worse)
āRappers only talk about their money, cars, and clothes!ā
Why might someone from a group of people that historically have been denied access to wealth, now brag that they have it?
āRappers only talk about sex!ā
Why might someone from a group that have historically been denied sexual autonomy now brag about their sexual escapades on their own terms?
āRappers only talk about drugs and crime!ā
Why might someone from a group that historically have been denied the more legal means to acquire wealth and had drugs forced on their community talk about their experiences with it?
Conservative beauty standards are back with a vengeance which means it's especially important to go out this summer with bellies out and bodies unshaved. Also be unapologetically disabled with mobility aids and wearable medical devices and stim toys and ear defenders and all that stuff. You need it. People need to see it. Everyone needs to be reminded that life is unquestioningly more enjoyable when you're not living inside an arbitrary set of rules created by people who are offended by all the wrong things.
Say it with me! Wheelchairs arenāt sad! Mobility aids arenāt sad! Mobility aids are instruments of freedom!
