A character who is tied up and gagged, but their eyes speak volumes. The rage, the promise that when they get free, everyone here is dead.
Whumptober No. 13
Team as a Family
Familial Curse // Multiple Whumpees // âDeath will do us part.â (Set It Off, Partner's In Crime)
*~*~*~*~*
Whumpee was the teamâs ace in the hole. Their trump card for whenever the team got into too tight a spot of bother. He hadnât even been an original member of the team. It was a chance encounter one day when Villainâs team attacked Whumpeeâs favourite coffee shop, where he had been waiting in line, scrolling on his phone, minding his own business.
Time stopped and Whumpee looked up, frowning as the patrons and the noise all melted away into silence. Whumpee narrowed his eyes, scoffing and looked around. He heard voices outside his local and stomped out of the queue, throwing the door open to see Villain performing an evil monologue to Team Leader and the other members who were frozen mid fight.
âAnd thereâsââ
Manhandling--especially done in silence.
Content: manhandling, humiliation, beating
Slammed into the top of a desk with their arm twisted behind them
Whumpee wincing and freezing under whumper's weight as they realize they're trapped; if they move any more their wrist is going to break
whumpee crushing their lips in their teeth to hold back cries of pain that they'd be punished for
Guards shoving in a manacled, stumbling whumpee before the king, kicking him to his knees and forcing him to bow so low his forehead hits the flagstones
Fist in the hair to yank whumpees head up
Or fingernails bruising into the cheeks for the same goal
Whumpee frustrated to rage that they aren't being allowed to just walk straight, instead they have to throw them into walls and slam them down into seats
Looking up with a livid glare at main whumper when they get there
Whumpee starting to speak, "wait, just--" gets yanked so hard the words catch before he staggers forward
"I can walk." Whumpee growls next time they come for him. Snarky guard--"well, you're to be dragged."
When the whumpers step away from whumpee, now tied up and gagged on the floor, panting through his nose
Humiliating punishments like whipping while whumpee is tied up like this, whumpee floundering awkwardly away with a muffled shriek at every strike
Holding whumpee's arms so whumper can punch them over and over in the stomach
A lineup of prisoners, but whumpee is the only one that gets thrown and kicked into position
ohhh we love a good âforced to torture your friend while undercover as a bad guyâ donât we
like. when you meet their eyes and you both know you have to do it and you have to do it well
incapacitation
content warning
drugs that make a character woozy and disoriented. slurring words and falling slack, everything too heavy and confusing and muffled
blown pupils, wandering eyes, breathing too much or too little. sweating, shaking, puking, so limp and pale itâs almost like theyâre dead
fevers so high a character's mind just turns to mush. glossy eyes tracking the ceiling, listless and unaware until eventually there's sweat sticking all over the sheets and they start mumbling some vague responses to caretaker's questions
tranquilizer dart that brings a character down all at once. one sudden jerk or look of confusion, not enough time to glance at it much less pull it out before eyes are rolling back and they collapse into the dirt
tranquilizer dart that comes on slowly. pulling it out and running and running until each step becomes too uncoordinated, stumbling or getting dragged along by a teammate until even their begging to stay awake, let's go, becomes hazy and distant
struck so hard that everything rings in one ugly roar. staggering or falling, told to sit down, just stay down. so confused and lost, repeating the same questions and forgetting the answer over and over and over again
character so messed up they struggle to follow any part of the conversation. everything too heavy and confusing and muffled, just useless and incoherent and completely oblivious to the situation
nervous prodding or pleading by caretaker, begging them to just stay awake or focus
jostled around by captor, told to get the fuck up and follow orders, easily manhandled and restrained
mumbling nonsense and spilling secrets. stoic characters without any masks, so confused and broken and vulnerable, slipping and powerless in every sort of way
"you're okay, i promise you're okay"
âah, shit. youâre a messââ
âI guess you wonât remember this anywaysâŚâ
gaze drifting and blank, too faraway to track anything caretaker/captor is saying. nudged and prodded and pleaded at to no avail, just incoherent and out of it
too weak to move. beaten absolutely senseless or bleeding all over the place, a character just hurting and spent beyond means sprawled flat against the ground
getting dragged along or stepped on, pinned down as if they're in any state to go anywhere
hypnotized and stunned into mindlessness. repeated mantras and rewired thoughts, a character made pliable and blank and used like a puppet
paralyzed but fully aware, left slack and useless and desperate with limp muscles and depressed breathing. assumed dead and abandoned, grieved over or dumped aside like a corpse, forced to watch and unable to do anything
poisoned and just getting worse and worse. teammates desperately looking for a cure while character deteriorates, puking and passing out and getting high fevers, hallucinating and begging for relief
characters taken out of commission when they're otherwise the strongest one. exposed to a weakness, given magical restraints or cuffs with neural suppressors to keep them docile, targeted and taken out
vertigo taking a character side to side, brought down and useless
God I want to write a first person pov of a whumpee getting knocked out in battle/a stressful situation and their experience fading in and out of consciousness while their team fights around them/fights to save them. Their poor confused head spinning to make sense of whatâs going on and ultimately failing. 10/10 trope I need more of it.
Whump trope I like is Whumpee succumbing to mind control.
When it's the trance like type, they can feel themselves lose control and desperately try to fight back before losing control, bonus is whumper is either eerily calm or outright taunting them.
Possession with them fighting back until they are either imprisoned in their own mind, helpless, or sealed in something else.
Puppetry where they slowly lose control of their body, all that remains are things you wouldn't actively think about (heartbeat, breathing, etc.) And their eyes. They can talk unless a certain string is pulled. Completely conscious, watching their body act not of its own accord.
Oh yes, I love some good mind control, especially if the Whumpee is still conscious, but just can't control their body. They're just a passenger, watching as they do awful things.
Especially if their friends/family knows they're mind controlled, and begs them to fight it, but they just can't. And Whumper taunting them, 'oh you can try begging all you want, they just listen to me now. Isn't that right, pet?'
What if they're forced to fight their friends, and the team has to choose between dying or letting Whumpee die. And when they stab Whumpee, the mind control is broken for a moment, but Whumpee scrambles back, telling them to just let them bleed out, saying they can feel to control get stronger again.
And even as they're dying and bleeding out, they fight for their mind, wanting to be themselves in their final moments.
trope i don't see enough: the more experienced character having to guide the less experienced character through something very difficult and important. maybe they're behind glass or bars or on the phone. maybe they have to do surgery or stitches or defuse a bomb or repair some machinery. ..
it's about suddenly being thrust into something you're absolutely not prepared for and still doing your best anyway. and also about having to watch as their hands tremble and they're struggling to piece together your instructions. if they make a single wrong move it's over. do you get it?
absolutely love when characters get beaten to a pulp by a gang of enemies and their friends arrive just in time to fight off the enemies and drag them out of danger right when they're on the brink of passing out from painnnnn
Hi! Iâd love to hear more about your Whump Archetypes concept!
sorry it took me a sec to get to this one. (referencing this post right?)
hero whumpee: sun-coded/ pride of the city/self-sacrificial -> failing to protect those they love/ their torture is videotaped and broadcasted to the city/ sacrifice everything for their friends
sidekick/apprentice whumpee: unshakingly loyal/ optimistic/ eager to prove their worth -> handed over to whumper in a trade for someone more "useful"/ disillusioned by the world/ forced to undergo training that breaks them emotionally and physically, punished if they can't complete their assignments
defiant whumpee: sarcastic/ argumentative/ never goes down without a fight -> muzzled/ publicly humiliated via flogging/ forced to lick their whumper's shoes
stoic whumpee: quiet/ steady head on their shoulders/ no one can control them, only their situations -> put on display/ used as an ashtray in party environments/ when whumper finally makes them break down and sob, its game over
vampire whumpee: threatening demeanor/ proud of their capabilities/ deep-hidden fears that no one knows about -> silver blades that make them bleed/ fangs ripped out/ manhandled and dehumanized until they no longer recognize themself
whumpee characterizations ? and what it takes to break them
thief whumpee: silver-tongued/ can't keep still/ uses humor as a coping mechanism-> gagged/ stress positions/ a casual whumper whose indifference immobilizes whumpee
royal whumpee: stoic/ proud/ seeks revenge after their imprisonment-> forced to kneel/ public humiliation, dragged around like a trophy, collared, branded etc/ enough scars to look like a constellation on their skin
healer whumpee: kind/ keeps up an image for the sake of others/ skilled in their trade-> pushed to the edge/ others have to take care of them/ hands or fingers so badly damaged they'll never be able to help anyone else again
innocent whumpee: naive/ trusting/ hopeful-> "no one is coming for you"/ left to die/ a whumper who twists whumpee's anger against their friends
bitter whumpee: apathetic/ shrugs off what they've been through/ exhausted-> "I'm fine." followed by collapsing/ vivid flashbacks where they wake up screaming/ refuses to fall asleep after their ordeal
leader whumpee: independent to the point of isolation/ tries to protect everyone/ mentally well-adjusted (mostly)-> set up to fail/ forced to hurt their teammates/ they come back changed, and everyone avoids them
villain whumpee: defiant/ insults whumper every chance they get/ so many failed escape attempts-> non-con drugging, left a shadow of their past selves/ conditioned to obey/ kneeling next to whumper at a press conferences
When a stoic Whumpee is seen fraying at the edges. They ignore the way their hands shake, their breaths are uneven, and only a thin, straining thread of will is keeping them upright.
Maybe theyâve been poisoned. Maybe theyâve worn themself past exhaustion. Maybe Whumper has found a secret to use against them, and they are fighting to remain in control of themself.
And they are failing.
âMy poor baby. My poor sweet little boy,â I lament out loud over a whole grown adult man who is not mine but is in fact a fictional character with fictional hurts. What matters is my feelings are real
Whunperless whump is all I can think of,
Just imagine being trapped. Whumpee pinned under a fallen building, a rockslide, what have you, just waiting for a rescue that might never come. The pain of a limb pinned under the rubble. The fear of their inevitable doom. The possibility of dying alone.
Or even trapped in a small room. Cook whumpee locked in the walk-in. At first itâs annoying, but then it takes too long. They have work to do, people are counting on them, they have to get out. Imagine whumpee pacing like a caged animal. Then the walls get smaller. The air feels thinner. They didnât know they were claustrophobic.
I was finishing up the Bear season 2, Carmy in the walk-in inspired me đ
I absolutely love when a character is trying to hide injuries or just how sore they are by moving around like normal. Theyâve perfected walking without wincing, ignoring the pain as they sit down or stand up, maybe even running.
But then as soon as theyâre out of sight, the second they make it home and the door closes behind them, they just collapse to the floor in tears.
