like for example my cat always speaks to me when I come home and i meow back to her and she’ll meow again & even though i don’t think twice about it to her it’s probably a situation where it’s like

her, meowing: “im glad you’re home”

me, meowing back: “tax benefits”

her, meowing: “why do u always do this”

To make 80  Olympians it takes 202 national champions, to make national champions it takes thousands of athletes. To make athletes it takes millions of children around the world to be inspired to choose sport.

The Rio 2016 site has a great feature on the “Olympic nomads”—sport professionals who move across the world every few years to help put on the Games. Above are the many credentials of Todd Severson, an American who will be the Games Services Manager at Rio:

“I met some Australians while I was working on the Atlanta 1996 Games, my first experience in this job. I moved to Australia in 1998 to work on the Sydney 2000 Games. I usually say that this was the beginning of the end for me. From then on, I worked on a series of Olympic projects – Salt Lake (2002), Athens (2004), Turin (2006), Beijing (2008), Vancouver (2010), London (2012), Sochi (2014) and finally Rio.”

When I was a volunteer at London 2012, I met a man who started his Olympic career doing radio broadcasts from Barcelona 1992. He now organizes mass choreography for Olympic ceremonies. It’s truly amazing.
