So the person who left that comment has sincerely and thoughtfully apologized, so that’s all taken care of. (Rant still stands in response to all the other rude comments I get though.)
That said, I have had multiple requests for swimming pool anxiety, so boy howdy buckle up, hold onto your hats, and pray to your local patron saint of regret, because have i got something for you.
Deepspot is a swimming pool and scuba diving training center in Poland. Until just a few weeks ago, it was the deepest swimming pool in the world. (It is now the second deepest swimming pool in the world. Bc they freaking built a deeper one, in Dubai.) It goes to 148 feet (45 m) deep, which is about…oh, about 10-15 stories. As in, you could fit a fifteen story building in there.
And that hole in the middle? It’s a simulated blue hole. Oh you don’t know what a blue hole is? Well it’s an underwater sinkhole or cavern. Like this:
Yeah, the designers decided that’s what a swimming pool really needs.
Oh, and for some reason Deepspot is decorated like a low-resolution video game? (these are photos, not cgi illustrations)
seriously, it’s like a goddamn puzzle video game. look, there’s the playable character:
My life is a constant trapeze act wherein I oscillate wildly between heightened unease and a vaguely-amused-yet-horrified sense of wonder in the world. Too many things exist solely to cause distress to me specifically, and they are fascinating.
But what about the world’s deepest swimming pool, you well may ask? Well, the Deep Dive Dubai is deeper by a third, contains almost 4 million gallons of water, and there aren’t many images available yet because it just opened to the public a few days ago.
There is one photo that stands out though:
