Are you an anti or a proshipper?
I don't know. I have no idea what definitions are you using for those two terms and unless I know, I can't answer that question. Simplest answer would be that both of those terms are self-applied and I apply neither to myself.
I talked about it before on my personal blog but in the wake of how the story ended and having officially entered the post-canon period in the transformative works, I want to talk about it again.
For me, transformative works are primarily self-indulgent. I write (and read) fics because I want more than what the official story has given me. Sometimes it goes the fix-it route, sometimes it’s years-down-the-line route, sometimes it’s this-would-be-an-interesting-au route. And almost always it’s I-love-this-particular-trope-and-want-these-characters-to-play-it-out route.
The trope in question is where the (usually) female character A does a lot of things for the character B because of A’s romantic feelings for B but B doesn’t reciprocate those feelings and either ignores, dismisses or outright devalues A. Enter character C, who connects with/develops feelings for A and makes it obvious how highly they regard A and A gradually falls for them, too. B might or might not realize what A meant to them but it’s too late by then, A and C are happy together.
The Mikasa-Eren-Levi setup is so made for this trope. It’s a combination of a slow-burn and revenge fantasy, with a helping of emotional hurt/comfort. I call it Skip Beat! AU for obvious reasons.
I love RivaMika for many reasons but the number of my favourite tropes, even the hyper-specific ones, they can be effortlessly cast into is definitely one of the top ones.
Rivamika, Tarot, and the Zodiac
Inspired by @azialehale‘s tarot post, I dug through some tarot books that I have and also did a little astrological research, since there is a lot of astrological symbolism in the tarot. Levi is a Capricorn; his sign is associated with The Devil card (temptation, being bound to the world of material things, facing fears), and Mikasa is an Aquarius, which is associated with The Star (health, hope, inspiration). The Devil and The Star are interesting because they can alter the aspect of The Moon card when they appear together in a reading: The Devil makes The Moon negative, but The Star and The Lovers (the other card associated with Rivamika) make it positive.
But the real interesting thing is when you pair the cards associated with Rivamika’s astrological signs and the cards associated with the ruling planets of those astrological signs: For Levi, Capricorn/The Devil is paired with The World/Saturn. For Mikasa, Aquarius/The Star is paired with The Fool/Neptune. The Fool and The World are the first and last cards of the Major Arcana (the trump cards of the tarot, as opposed to the suit cards of Wands, Pentacles, Swords, and Cups) and describe the beginning and ending of the journey to spiritual enlightenment. Each card in the Major Arcana represents a step of the Fool’s journey, culminating in the triumphant completion of The World.
They are literally Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, innocence and experience. The Fool is not stupid, merely naive and untried, and can also represent a choice being offered: to stay or to go on this life-altering journey. (Perhaps a choice between a certain childhood friend-turned-dove (crying) and a certain former Captain.) The World has seen it all, has internalized and accepted the lessons to be learned, and has overcome all obstacles standing in his way.
This is just scratching the surface; there are some incredible similarities to both Rivamika canon and fanon in the sources I researched, though I only focused on interpretations of The Moon and The Lovers cards. I transcribed a bunch of stuff from my tarot books about the cards and some astrological websites regarding the Capricorn/Aquarius pairing, and I hope to make a larger post with excerpts and analysis (possibly including The Fool and The World cards as well) when I have time.

Sorry that it is late and not what you wanted, nonny but I have a complicated relationship with jealousy tropes/storylines. I like them sometimes but it’s really dependent on the characters and story context. I’m much more in favor of stories where the jealous party is the one being left behind - that would be Eren in this case.
I don’t see Levi being jealous in these scenarios so much as sad for Mikasa’s sake. She’s giving so much of herself only for all that going unappreciated/unrecognized. And maybe the next day, Levi is super hard on Eren in training while making sure to praise Mikasa’s performance.
And maybe he buys her something, too. Nothing extravagant but still thoughtful, to show her that other people see and appreciate her, too.
Thoughts on the final chapter
I wonder if me being functionally out of the fandom since late 2018 is contributing to me being meh about the ending.
I don’t hate it. Could it have been better? Of course. And I’m not talking things like ships or such since, as I previously stated on multiple occasions, I don’t care about the canon confirming my ships for me explicitly. Would it have been nice? Sure, but given that two of my bigger ships got sunk with character deaths before and the third did so in this chapter (it’s Jean x Sasha, Ymir x Historia and Eren x Armin for those curious), just the fact that both Levi and Mikasa are alive is enough for me.
I know people hate it but the ending makes sense. The main issue is that it went too fast. There were way too many infodumps in the past few chapters, especially the last. There should have been a better spread of all the things that got revealed. The last chapter was the epitome of that unwanted storytelling device - telling instead of showing.
If the last chapter was spread over two or three chapters instead, with several flashback pages instead of single flashback panels, it would have worked out better. At least, that’s what would work better for me.
But it is what it is and the fandom needs to move on. Isayama owns the manga on the paper, but the fandom owns it in their hearts. So own it. Write the fics, draw the art, gif the show, edit the vids. Make your own endings and let other people make theirs, too. And the inbox, both here and on my personal blog, is always open.
The end of SNK and what it means to the Rivamika fandom
Hello everyone! Since the official translation of chapter 139 has been released and has cleared some misconceptions from the bad korean scanlation it’s time to post my thoughts regarding Rivamika and the ending of Shingeki no Kyojin. I strongly recommend rereading the chapter with the official (Kodansha’s) translation (it’s easy to find).
Here goes…
While every shipper’s dream is to see obvious signs of canon for their pairing, I believe the Rivamika fandom will come out of this relatively healthy, and Rivamika fanworks will definitely thrive.
For one thing, both Levi and Mikasa are alive, Levi is well, and they’re going to meet. Isayama left things open-ended, but left us a few hints such as Armin implying Mikasa will find a nice man in the future, Pieck pestering Jean about his appearance, etc., that give us a little fuel for post-canon Rivamika. I won’t go into detail about Mikasa’s sorry state (that will go into another post where I will post my personal opinion about SNK’s ending as a whole), but it can be an amazing plot hook for any ship involving Mikasa - especially Rivamika.
I have been preparing for this day ever since I created this blog in 2014, and as someone who is fandom!old I have seen many OTPs of mine become officially canon - but no ship has ever gripped me like Rivamika. And Rivamika wouldn’t have been such an entrancing ship if Shingeki no Kyojin wasn’t a good quality manga. Only Rivamika was able to make me pour so many hours of work on a blog like this, and I do not regret one second of the time I spent on it. That’s why I hope the controversial ending of SNK doesn’t change your enjoyment of Rivamika, or detract you from the manga’s overall quality. An open ending with both Levi and Mikasa as one of the few survivors is one of the best things that could’ve happened to our fandom considering how dark Shingeki no Kyojin has always been. We have a bright future ahead of us, and in some ways a bittersweet ending can be an extremely effective kind of fuel for fanworks.
Finally, despite this blog’s name being canon-rivamika, please remember that canon isn’t the be-all and end-all to shipping. Rather, the purpose of this blog has always been to help gather the canon moments of development between Levi and Mikasa and the parallels between them in order to enrich our shipping experience. And so, rest assured that this blog will maintain itspurpose as the Shingeki no Kyojin fandom enters a new era of fanworks. A final Rivamika timeline is slowly on the way. We also have merchandise, possible spinoffs, and the final season of the anime to entertain us for a while.

(This is not an indictment of the chapter itself, I’m actually content with how things turned out, they could have been much, much worse.)

An in-depth analysis of Mikasa’s character development in relation to Eren and Levi
Author’s Note: Hi, all! As I was re-reading and going over my previous post/analysis titled “On the change of dynamics of Mikasa’s relationships with Eren and Levi,” I realized that there were some points that I should’ve/could’ve included. Lol. I also came up with other points of analysis as well as arrived at other realizations concerning Mikasa’s connections with Eren and Levi. So, I’ve decided to post them here. This post can be considered a continuation of the previous analysis since it supplements and further expounds on the last post’s points. But this can still stand on its own since it also talks about additional issues. Haha. If you want to read the previous post, the link is up there. Hehehe.
Fair Warning: This is a very long post. Lol.
This post will analyze the following:
1. How Mikasa’s connection to Eren is rooted in their shared history. This was already touched upon in the previous post, but this post will expound more on this.
2. How Mikasa’s character development is affected by Eren’s own character development. How her development as a character is affected by this will also be discussed. This segment will also analyze how Mikasa’s connection to Eren became strained because of the latter’s drastic change in the latter part of the series.
3. How “Chapter 138: A Really Long Dream” is about Mikasa finally letting go of and “waking up” from her dream. This post shall also analyze how Chapter 138 is actually the climax and turning point of Mikasa’s character development concerning Eren.
4. How Eren represents Mikasa’s dream, while Levi represents her reality. This will be further expounded on later.
From the foregoing topics, it’s clear that this is a primarily Mikasa-centered analysis. Haha. I just had so many thoughts running through my mind about her development that I was eager to make this post. Lol.

When it comes to Mikasa and Louise, I always remember that post that says something like: “The version of me you created in your head is not my responsibility.” Mikasa doesn’t really owe Louise anything beyond what she has already done. She might have inspired her but that doesn’t mean she’s obligated to be her friend. Is Mikasa less than compassionate in the hospital scene? Possibly. But it’s not like she hasn’t been through an emotional wringer herself and just the fact that she visited Louise at all is enough, imo.

“Venting about fandom things you dislike and tagging that dislike out of courtesy” and “Telling people not to be assholes to each other over their fandom likes and dislikes” are things that can not only coexist but they actually overlap a lot.
Some of the things I dislike are very popular. Noting outright that I do not share that opinion is a courtesy notice for both the actual and potential followers so they can decide if they will follow/keep following me and employ blacklist for some tags (hence the reason I tag those things) or not follow/unfollow me.
For some reason, you looked at my publicly stated preferences (seriously, my sidebar description on the main blog names my two biggest NOTPs outright and there is a side page that lists several popular ships that are my NOTPs - none of it is hidden) and decided you absolutely needed to come to my inbox, call me a bitch (joke’s on you, I’m proud of being one) and accuse me of having my main blog full of hate because over the course of 8 years, I tagged maybe a hundred posts out of over 5 000 with an anti tag.
