what's crazy about wicked compared to other properties that people wish were gay is that wicked literally WAS gay in the book. like elphaba and glinda did actually kiss. glinda was clearly a lesbian. and then the musical decided to both focalize their relationship more (good) but also remove any explicit romantic aspects (bad) and shove them into a love triangle instead (very bad). there's something crazymaking about seeing an incredibly popular (ha) property about Female Friendship™ consistently shy away from the implications of its own gay subtext when the source material it's based on made the gay subtext text. like. gelphie shippers literally are not reading into things or making it up, it is IN THE TEXT, but the refusal of the musical (and, presumably, the upcoming movie) to acknowledge that fact turns us into your classic non-canon gay shippers fantasizing about something that will never come true. it does make you want to bite things i'm afraid !
