âWhat?â The blond asked, just as loudly as his other questions had been. Heâd seen Al yell at the device enough to know you had to speak up when you wanted to be heard by the other person. Though it seemed like he had spoken just on the edge of too loud. âIâm sorry.â Scorpius whispered, following his friendâs instructions on tapping the screen to display his own face. Though he was wildly unsuccessful âItâs not working. The button with the arrows? Where?â Completely frustrated by the whole process, as he often was, Scorpius had the thought to burst in on Albus showering and ask for the millionth time on what to do with the mobile.
âAn office! Which one? How does that work? Does the computer have a spell to do that or do you have to type one in?â Scorpius hesitated outside the bathroom door before walking back into the sitting room. He could figure this out. He didnât need his boyfriendâs help to find a button with arrows. He had eyes. âJay, you have to. Allie showed me this funny muggle shop. They have all that sort of things and everythingâs very inexpensive and itâs old clothes that other people have worn so you do have to clean them but I bet they have those glasses!â In his excitement, Scorpius was determined to switch the camera around to his own visage but only succeeded in ending the FaceTime call instead. Staring blankly at the screen that now showed an unmoving picture of himself and Alâs tiny picture boxes, he called out in vain. âJay?â
After the first shout, the second wasn't much of a surprise. Jacen just grinned at the mobile screen while he watched (listened?) to the blonde boy struggle with the device. It was almost like those underwater sealife aquariums that allow you to watch the pretty fishes, but they were just out of view.
"Now you're whispering and I can't hear you. Just talk like you would if I were there with you and Al. No extra loud or extra quiet," he instructed, wondering if it would be a wasted effort to turn on fun filters because at least Scorpius could see him. "It's two arrows forming either a circle or an oval shape, it'll switch the camera around so I can see you."
"The Department of Muggle-Worthy Excuse Committee. It's a paid internship, so I'll be able to buy us a celebration dinner!" He was excited about that prospect. They had graciously allowed him to crash on their sofa many times (along with minor break-ins for his abduction). "I have to type in the commands, but it isn't hard to do once you have the feel of it. I learnt during the summers from Hogwarts."
Scorpius really had his attention at the idea of the funny muggle shop when the screen went blank. He stared at the screen, then huffed out an exasperated sound of outrage. This time when he called back, he made certain to add the filter for the unicorn face. "First of all, what the hell?!"
