Predicting the Future, Blog Post 10
Listen to the following recent news story from NPR about a company trying to predict the future of world events through analyzing publicly available social networking streams. Write a response, on your blog sitet, using at least 200 words that explains whether or not you believe the proposed ideas are possible or not.
I think the ideas is really good, however predicting the future in my opinion is impossible. I don't know any way to really explain how I feel. The future can always change if all people have autonomy. Humans are unpredictable! However, it is easy to change the course of the future with technology, but you can't know exactly what will happen.
eCommerce and Social Media, Blog Post 9
Week 11 - - - Due by 5/6/2015 Find a recent news story, from within the last year, about how a unique way that a business has used social media to expand their business or to add a payment component to their social network. Why do you think social networks are so eager to move into the payments space?
Social media plays a key role in our society, as of late one company that Id like to emphasize for their acceptation use of social media is Mission Tix. Mission Tix is a homegrown business venture. The founder of the company is in fact alumni of UMBC. The company is mostly online, due to the nature of the business which deals tickets including concerts, venus, etc. Mission Tix is now searching for new ways for customers to make payments at events. Their team has devalued a payment system similar to that of disney world. When you arrive at a venue you are dealt a wrist band that carries your information for making payments, this band will allow you to purchase beverages, food, souvenirs, etc. the new system is currently in beta mode, however the company is looking forward to expanding this system in the coming years. The wrist bands are reusable, liquid resistant, and tear resistant. They use an innovative RFID tagging system that allows near frequency connection for contactless payment. I just realized im not writing about the right thing, but thats okay. I will begin a new article here, hope you enjoyed learning about Mission Tix. To find out more information go to www.MissionTix.com
Recent data breach, blog 8
Describes some sort of data breach or security breach. Imagine that you are the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the affected organization. What would you do to correct the situation?
Sim card firm links GCHQ and NSA to hack attacks
GCHQ, dutch sim card producer was recently hacked. It has been said that US & UN cyber security agencies were involved with these attacks. “GCHQ’s clients include AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint among more than 400 wireless network providers across the world.” The hack was perpetrated by a joint unit consisting of operatives from the NSA and its British counterpart Government Communications Headquarters, or GCHQ. The breach, detailed in a secret 2010 GCHQ document, gave the surveillance agencies the potential to secretly monitor a large portion of the world’s cellular communications, including both voice and data. The company targeted by the intelligence agencies, Gemalto, is a multinational firm incorporated in the Netherlands that makes the chips used in mobile phones and next-generation credit cards. Among its clients are AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint and some 450 wireless network providers around the world.
The CSO title is used at some companies to describe the leader of the "corporate security" function, which includes the physical security and safety of employees, facilities and assets. More commonly, this person holds a title such as Vice President or Director of Corporate Security. Historically, corporate security and information security have been handled by separate (and sometimes feuding) departments.
As companies grow and collect more data the need for them to have a CSO (Chief security officer) increases. If I had the opportunity to be CSO for GCHQ I would have sim card development monitored from beginning to end of the process.
Experiences using fedscope, blog 7
Using the Fedscope Employment Cube for June 2013, identify a state in the country where you would like to live and who the leading Federal employer for someone who matches your demographics - age, gender, and type of occupation you are interested in. Is the state you identified a good spot for you to find Federal employment. Describe your answer and what the process of using FedScope was like. Paste your 200 word response in the submission box below.
Using Fedscope Employment Cube I was able to identify California as a state i’d like to live. The Federal employer I choose is the NSA; the occupation i’m mostly interested in is, Data Analyst. Trying to access the Employment cube was pretty frustrating, I was initially unable to access any data. Since I couldn't get the data I needed while using Safari I switched to Firefox browser. Luckily Firefox worked on the first try. After finding the job of my choice I analyzed the ages, and genders; there is definitely an array of people working for this sector of the government. I don't really enjoy using Fedscope, It is very unresponsive and behind the technology curve. Today I tried to log on to cross analyze my findings and the “cube” is down, maybe indefinitely, but I believe its just for maintenance.

FedScope Gov, Post 6
Week 9 - Visit the following website:
http://www.fedscope.opm.gov/
Use the most recent employment cube to determine the number of Social Security employees with over 35 years of service. Write about your experiences using software you've never seen before.
This software was really difficult to use, I was unable to navigate through it using Safari, Chrome, or Opera browsers. Firefox and Internet explorer did however allow me to traverse the database. Once I got to the database the usage was pretty simple. Rows and columns used to represent the data with on and off buttons/ fields was easily recognizable; especially since I have experience with Microsoft Excel.
:’( Luckily I have every browser known to man...
Competitive Forces Application, Week 5
Tesla motors focuses on Marker Niche to accomplish effective advertisement. In my commercial we can see an upper middle class family with the 'Space Ship' of their dreams. The child is wearing a custom made card board box designed to be a space suit. He takes a journey to his fathers Tesla and notices its space like qualities, the boy then jumps into the vehicle and takes an imaginary voyage into the stratosphere. Market Niche is Teslas strongest quality as an electronic motor company, they have an outstanding vehicle that is noted as a modern day space ship.
Business Processes, Week 4
Write a blog post of 200-300 words with an explanation of the data that could be shared through two of the linked business processes and benefits that could be achieved through linking the two processes together with a common application/shared database.
The two links i'm choosing to focus on is Purchasing and Simulation. My idea behind linking these two processes is simple. Think of a situation where you need to think at the margin, one situation that gives an example for this is day-trading stocks. I have personal experience trading in the "quick game" imagine you have a purchasing algorithm that works with simulation to create potential market outcomes then log them into a data-analytics program.
Career categories, Blog post 3
Using the 7 categories of the Information Technologyecosystem I decided to focus on the software side of the ecosystem. In our growing economy focusing seems to be on software engineering. Luckily programming is something I have fun doing. My favorite type of programming is web, using languages such as PHP, HTML, CSS, RUBY, and JAVASCRIPT. Although web development may not currently seem like a lucrative career path in the software industry. I do have reason to believe that web engineers will a niche in the markets of the future.
Ask yourself this question what’s the last computing device you used to accomplish any task that didn’t have access to the World Wide Web? I’ve had the opportunity to ask some collogues this exact question, these are the answers I received: I went rock skipping a few months ago, a Texas instrument calculator in high school, my notebook, my sneakers, etc. You get the point, the web is ubiquitous! My goal is to develop applications that will enable people to do great things.
Hospital In The Cloud (HITC)
This weeks blog entry is about the implementation of the 'cloud' as a service, for businesses.
Imagine running into your community ER with a bloody nose. You’re frantic and worried you're going to bleed out. A nurse Jackie tends to you, she asks for your HITC log in ID, the last 4 of your social, and a picture ID. She then returns to her computer to check your records.
She pulls up your medical history. It shows you're on 3 medications to treat an illness you've had since childhood. Since nosebleeds are easy to treat she doesn't need to do much. She gets you some gauze and tilts your head back. Nurse J, then is notified by the system that the three medicines you've been taking, interact in a way that raises blood pressure in some patients. She advises you to reduce your dosage on at least 1 of the 3 medicines. Your nosebleeds never occur again!
The cloud integrated into hospitals isn't exactly a new idea. It is however an idea that is still in the beginning phase. Imagine a world that would allow you to upload medical records to a user friendly database. HITC hospital in the cloud does exactly this. Our system leaps the medical field tremendously. Doctors have become more accountable, since you now have public access to their treatment history. Our system has also assisted with research in the medical field. We have developed artificial intelligence that can read images, and regroup them to better identify medical issues. If we take 10 patients who have cancerous cells. Then have our AI map these cell groups photographically. We will be able to discover cancerous cells in hundreds of thousands of patients.
Cloud computing in your local hospital is the way of the future. Your medical ID will allow you to have the best treatment wherever you may go.

Wearable technologies
Wearable technologies have been around now since the 1960s if you think in terms of the first pocket watch. These technologies have been staggering in popularity since then. In the year 2000 the first ever Bluetooth headset shipped, this was a monumental breakthrough for many reasons. New doors were beginning to open parts and labor became a lot cheaper for manufactures.
In our day and age we have access to some of the smartest and coolest technologies. I myself use what is called a Nike fuel band, the fuel band is a fashion accessory as well as an exercise tool. The fuel band works with accelerometers to measure activity from the user’s wrist. In unison with the iPhone, Android, or windows phone a user is able to track their fitness while setting goals.
The fuel band is one of many technologies that a user is able to wear on their wrist. One up and coming technology that is gaining popularity is the Apple Watch.
Apple watch features a heart rate monitor, a touch screen that senses pressure, an NFC chip for mobile payments, and a brand new OS for its users. As a wearable technology the apple watch is useful in many ways, the first being fitness (who doesn't love tracking their fitness), the second being the customization. While using the watch you have the opportunity to not only change the face to whatever pleases you, but you can also download new custom watch faces on the go.
The success of wearable technology has been big in the 21st century, I am hoping for good things in the future of wearable tech!
Until next time,
