sexy lamp test but for kids in fiction. Antique Vase Test. if the kid can be replaced with an antique vase (or similar valuable object) then you’ve failed to depict a person with agency and have instead written a Stakes Raiser
wow really glad I woke up enough to write down that great paragraph.
my beautiful baby who i'm naming untitled document
i can't seem to find my baby
Me: it's fine I'll fix this in the next draft
Also me: oh god I have to fix this in the next draft
The small voice in your head that says: "I don't need to write down every small detail of this plot idea, I love it so much, I'll remember this."
That's the devil speaking.
What they don't tell you about writing is that as you write, you discover scenes and entire plots that you hadn't accounted for that need to be written. So you can spend two hours writing and editing only to realise you're further away from the finish line than you thought you were when you started
i do have to say that no matter how shitty any sort of media is or how shitty your own creations are. always remember
They who see this shall get out of their writing rut.
my daily affirmation as an author
writing goals for 2026 ✨
to write
i think i tend to forget how good boredom is for creativity because we're all so addicted to numbing ourselves with screens and stimulation. but standing in the shower or going for a walk with no music or just sitting in your bedroom without being allowed to touch any screens & all of a sudden i have multiple new projects to start, a solution to a months-long plot problem & 4 new original characters
writing tip they don’t tell you is that in addition to reading good books you should occasionally read one really bad one so that it inspires you to write something better out of pure rage
“how do you write again after a long break?” you just start. that’s the horror of it. you just. start. and then the story opens its eyes.
hey if you like tracking your reading with something like goodreads but hate ai try pagebound! it's a completely ai free site (with an app coming soon i'm told!) and it's very pretty and fun to interact with. also you're supporting a small indie site rather than fucking amazon
