From its Mouth Came a River of High-End Residential Appliances by Jon Wang. Performance. 2017.
Set in Hong Kong, referred to as the feng shui capital of the world, this video documentation of an hour long performance re-enacts a live feng shui intervention and takes the audience through the flow of energy between natural and built environments using a buoyant camera. A voice narrates for the queer future as characters explore shape shifting relationships with various objects and their remote-selves. For this project, Wang travelled to Hong Kong to discover contemporary feng shui practices and its architectural manifestations. Standing at the edge of the city are the dragon gates, which are high rise buildings with rectangular voids designed to allow dragons to pass from the mountains to the sea to bathe and drink.
Jon Wang is an artist and filmmaker based in New York. His work has been exhibited in various galleries and festivals in North America and has received numerous awards and grants for his work. Wang is also the cofounder of ZEZE Hotel and is working on opening a queer bathhouse in New York City.
