on the football club, pwr bttm, and dealing with sexual assault in the LGBT DIY punk community

an essay in response to the recent accusations against frontwoman of the football club, ruby markwell, in the context of what has been a disturbing two months for the diy punk community and lgbt fans.

A person accuses a popular musician of sexual misconduct, and of abusive behaviour. Of rape. The band denies any sort of knowledge of such happenings. The band defends themselves as champions of victims. The band offers support to anyone who feels wronged.

Then, in an unforeseen turn of events, the band’s management drops them. Upcoming festivals drop them. Supporting acts for impending tours drops them. The band are, to use the popular vernacular, cancelled.
