The second response arrived this morning, from Archie Norman, the chairman of ITV plc. As pleased as I am to receive another response, what disappoints me is the way in which the letter doesn’t address the inequality – the men’s games are broadcast, in their entirity, every game – on ITV, while the network seems to show little or no interest in the Lionesses games.

We bury our dead. We bury them with dignity and grace and the love they deserve. We mourn them, carry them around inside us, keep them in our thoughts. Only comfort can be offered, here in the verse of Laurence Binyon's 1914 poem 'For the Fallen', popular at this time of year:

We grieve. We grieve.

But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially.

The very good, the very gentle, the very brave. Oh, how brave.

But we remember them.

For to live in the hearts of those we love is not to die. Not really. Not ever. Certainly not in the last ten years.
