Fandom culture is in a weird place right now because while literacy is ABSOLUTELY declining and you can see it with younger people not being able to understand the intent of details or scenes…
That “nobody has literacy” point also gets used to shoot down normal, different readings or different interpretations of a scene that’s clearly intentionally vague.
So it’s a weird point where it’s both… yeah people’s ability to read intent and mood has declined but so has people’s ability to identify when something is NOT a literacy issue but rather that readers latched onto different details, and the author didn’t put in a defined conclusion.
Until Dawn Characters’ favorite Starbucks orders according to me.
1. Ashley~
Pumpkin cream cold brew
Big cold brew gal, will order it with vanilla cream most of the year, but will wake up early the moment the pumpkin stuff drops and enjoy her first sip of autumn.
Honestly she cycles through the whole fall menu once before returning back to the cold brew. It’s a tradition.
2~ Chris
Mocha cookie crumble Frappuccino or caramel ribbon crunch Frappuccino
He enjoys a good coffee in the morning, but this is the drink of his heart if he goes all the way to Starbucks. He’s a bit embarrassed about it. See: my Chris coffee shop headcanon.
3~ Emily
Honestly, she’s a coffee snob who thinks Starbies is beneath her. She also loves a good matcha but not from there. However, she is a fan of their refreshers. She’ll usually order a strawberry açaí lemonade when she goes with the others.
4~ Josh
Usually just a drip coffee.
But he’s one of the few people Chris will drink his order around, and Josh will steal sips from it.
5~ Jessica
Literally whatever the viral drink of the week is.
She saved a bunch of posts about custom orders and reads them off her phone. She gravitates to cinnamon dolce.
6~ Matt
Used to just get plain black coffee, but got turned on hard to pumpkin spice lattes after his and Ashley’s secret bookclub (see headcanon).
He wanted up order a seasonal drink like her without it being the same one at their first meeting. He took one sip of a PSL and it was over for him.
7~ Mike
Plain black coffee but he puts whisky in it when he gets home.
(So, he’s below drinking age in the US, but I had him do this once in my fic where he’s 22 with coffee he made, and now I associate it with him. I can see him just taking it from his dad’s liquor cabinet.)
8~ Sam
A sweetened latte with oat milk.
She wants more than a black coffee but is also into more simple sweetness. Oat milk because she’s vegan. She will however change things up sometimes and go almond or coconut milk.
9~ Hannah and Beth
They both like chai lattes but Hannah likes it topped with lavender cream while Beth likes it topped with mango cream.
They “argue” relentlessly about how one drink is godlike and the other is trash despite the only difference being the cream. It’s a bit of shared humor they have.
(I headcanon Josh and Chris doing this with Mountain Dew and Mountain Dew: Baja blast)
As a longtime anime and game fan, I think a moment where I vividly realized I was an adult is when I played Fire Emblem 3H and thought these were definitely 100% the hottest dudes. Claude gets recognition. But Seteth??? Dedue???
I actually might prefer Claude’s academy design just because it’s really unique but daaaaaamn his timeskip as well, y’all. Claude is the best-looking character in the entire franchise. His hairstyles? Perfection. His eye and skin tone combo? Perfection. His swagger? Perfection. Trust me, he has not one bad look in the mobile game. I’m so mad at what Hopes did to him (even if his design was, again, stellar in Hopes)
Seteth and Dedue have just deep places in my heart. They’re too good for what they’re dealing with. One is a literal father and the other is frankly still a father. The Lions need Dedue quite sincerely.
I also think time skip Dimitri is really attractive.
He’s cool as hell. I just don’t like his pre-skip very much at all. His academy hair… I can’t.
Posted this on Reddit and TikTok. But here are some things in the original Until Dawn that can be done by using the app. Two slightly different scenes and two phone calls from the Psycho.
Under the cut: Chris and Mike’s dynamic in my fic.
I kind of like writing them as two of the survivors because Mike and Chris are totally not the type of guys you typically see as friends in high school or college. So it’s cool envisioning how it happened and how living though everything changed them.
“Anything from Sam and Chris?” Jessica asked wearily, padding across the linoleum.
“No.” Even as he said it, Mike checked his phone.
That’s another thing that had changed—Him dying for a text from Chris, of all people. There’d been a time when Chris was constantly on his phone, constantly forwarding memes, and constantly lighting up the group text, asking who wanted to get on voice chat. He’d always fall asleep an hour into the conversation. Chris had been annoying—there was really no other way to put it. But, sophomore year, Mike had come to the halting revelation that he liked him anyway.
It was Josh to whom Mike had first been drawn. He’d known about him at the start of freshman year. People talked, and everything said about Josh Washington sounded fun. His dad was famous, he was rich, he was a little older than everyone else, he had two beautiful sisters in a lower grade, and he threw parties often. A rumor that began flying around among students—which Mike now suspected had been true—that Josh smoked pot in the park after school only made him seem more interesting, more fun, and somehow more adult than everyone else, at least at the time.
So, Mike had made a point to get an in. It wasn’t hard. He could charm his way into anyone’s inner circle; Hannah only made things easier. If Josh wasn’t inviting Mike to events, she was.
But, initially, Mike hadn’t known what to make of what he’d thought of as the “Chris situation.” He’d overheard that Chris and Josh had been friends since they were little. At first, he’d wondered if they’d simply gotten comfortable as friends, been stuck that way, and would have never been close if they’d met in high school. Josh took things like shop class and metalwork. He was a stage hand during all the school plays and flirted with the actresses. He didn’t care about his grades, was late to class weekly, and usually skated by with natural intellect. Chris was an extrovert who liked to chatter on and on. Freshman year, he was taking honors calculus, honors computer science, and advanced chemistry. He was in the Dungeons and Dragons club and could be seen trying to stuff piles of graph paper and tome-like guidebooks into his locker. Even Josh liked to mock him sometimes.
However, the more Mike saw Chris and Josh interact, the more they made sense together—the more he could tell they really had a synergy, a strangely perfect matchup of their temperaments. They got into animated reenactments of their favorite movies. They bantered and pranked each other. They had the same dude-bro mentality that came out when they were together. Still, Mike felt that Chris was really “Josh’s friend” and not someone he hung out with because he wanted to.
He wasn’t sure when that had changed. At some point, he realized that he liked Chris, that it was okay to find himself stuck with him during parties at the Washingtons’. They sometimes didn’t sync up, sometimes talked past each other, but Chris was nice and easygoing, practical and loyal. He was the kind of guy who would offer rides and do anything he could to give you a way out of a jam. Mike still remembered Chris spending all his free period helping him glue back together a physics project that had broken on the way into school.
In fact, it felt like, just when he was getting used to Chris’s ways and counting him as a true friend… Everything had been violently uprooted. That night on Blackwood had turned Chris gloomy and sensitive. Mike felt as though they clashed every other conversation. Only Sam seemed to really be easy to talk to anymore—Mike loved Jessica but they had their ups and downs together. And yet, Mike found himself attached to Chris in a fierce, desperate way, like someone clutching a lifeline. That’s what they all were to each other now, teathers to reality, to the fact that they weren’t crazy. They knew what they’d seen and they had survived it together.
Mike supposed he should, in fairness to Chris, admit that he himself had changed a little too. He’s lost some of his charm and knack for quick-witted conversation, his old humor. He was angrier now, more controlling.
Like Josh, Chris had said. That accusation had annoyed Mike more than he’d let on.
“Sit down,” Mike told Jess. He shook some spices into the scrambled eggs and plated them. He turned the coffee pot on.
A sudden noise at the door made him place the dishes too suddenly and they landed with a shrill clatter.
I was reading a poem that I ended up using for Psychosis Room (my Until Dawn fic). It’s such a perfect, absurd look at the thought process of people who question their friends’ behavior… in a way that’s stupid but relatable.
I wanted to explain why one of Josh’s traits can be “loving” despite how demanding, violent, and paranoid he gets. I love this poem, and I think he totally had a hallucination about Hill, Chris, and Sam that was like this. 😆
Poem is “We Who Are Your Closest Friends” by Phillip Lopate.
“We who are your closest friends/ feel the time has come to tell you/ that every Thursday/ we have been meeting/ as a group/ to devise ways/ to keep you/ in perpetual uncertainty/ frustration/ discontent/ and torture/ by neither loving you/ as much as you want/ nor cutting you adrift/ your analyst is/ in on it”
And
We feel hopeful you/ will continue to make/ unreasonable/ demands for affection/ if not as a consequence/ of your/ disastrous personality/ then for the good of the collective
Like if you want to know what kind of paranoia Josh has in my fic, it’s this. 😂
I'm not counting my last ranked vote because all the questions guessing about what Until Dawn 2 is are now obsolete.
But here is one asking which characters you'd most want to return, then questions asking you to rank ships for each characters... just to fluff up the poll lol.
Ranked vote questions.
How ranked vote works is that you get to assign a rank to each option.
For example, assigning something as "1" woul
