I adore Expedition 33 but my hot take is that one reason why it's gotten damn near universal acclaim is that every main character is white (Lune is asian but she's not a story lead, and Sciel is darkish skinned but *ambiguous* enough for folks who might want to kick up a fuss to turn a blind eye) and there are no hints that anyone is queer (the closest we get is affection between Lune and Sciel).

I can't help but think that if the Dessendre family were black the game would get a very different reaction.

Taking on a lyctor in the Locked Tomb universe must feel like taking on Simon from Expedition 33 as one of the expedition. Like you're fighting a god who can move so much faster and hit so much harder than you. (And of course both have been artificially inflated by magic.)

Yes I did make this comparison because the overlap between these communities feels...honestly probably larger than you might imagine.
