golf sucks but mini golf is fucking awesome....truly one of life's great paradoxes
golf:
wastes crazy amounts of space and water
soul-crushingly boring
extremely frustrating to all but the highest level of players (most golfers will never even shoot par)
prohibitively expensive (golf clubs are very costly and one round of golf can cost $100+)
mini golf:
18 holes will fit into an area the size of a small park; most courses use astroturf, which doesn't even require water
a fun game of skill to challenge your friends to
easy to get into, but difficult to master
cheap (you and your friends can probably play for like, $20)
BONUS: cool obstacles and gimmicks (windmills, water features, secret holes, etc.)
Golf: completely fucking silent practically on pain of death
Mini golf: dunking on ppl while theyre taking a shot is pretty much required
Please don't ask me for relationship advice unless you are prepared to receive some truly upsetting information because some people are ready for the "He's exhibiting the literal textbook signs of a psychological abuser and you need to get away from him before he successfully cuts you off from your support network" talk and some people aren't
FOR WHOEVER NEEDS A REMINDER:
There is never any justification for someone putting their hands on you in any way without your consent short of immediate risk of harm or death.
If someone tells you that "the way I'm acting is your fault because you know that doing X thing would make me do it and you chose to do it anyway" is just fancy bullshit talk for, "I know my behaviour is wrong, but I don't want to be held responsible for it so I'm pushing it on you"
Nothing good ever, ever comes from someone who tells you, "I don't want you talking about our relationship with anyone". This person cannot handle accepting responsibility and processing criticism so they need you to never, ever question them. That's easier if they control the narrative and your friends aren't there to cut in.
Nothing constructive comes from screaming.
"It's not like that all the time" is optimistic and sweet, but the truth is, it shouldn't be like that at all. Sweet words and gifts and gestures don't erase being frightened for yourself or for your loved ones. That is not normal. Don't minimize it.
It is not healthy or normal to be genuinely afraid of saying "no" to someone, for any reason at all. Violence, outbursts, retaliation, anything. You should not have to be afraid of someone's reaction to your boundaries.
You are not responsible for saving anyone. Even if you love them. Even if they have nobody else. At the end of the day, if they want to hurt themselves in any way, they will, and you can't stop them forever. People need to want to improve before they can actually improve, and if they're threatening to harm themselves to keep you around, they're using your love to hold themselves hostage. You do not decide their choices for them, and they don't get to shunt that off on you.
There will always be other people who can love you better. You will not be alone forever. This will not be the last time you care for someone like this and it will not be the last time someone cares for you
This applies to ALL relationships btw
part two of queer book recs because we need to start getting information on gay stuff outside of youtubers who can easily lie to us or plagiarize
note that i haven’t read these except christine jorgenson’s autobiography and allison bedchel’s graphic novels, the rest are either ones i’ve had recommended to me or have been cited in other things i’ve been meaning to read

If there anything that queer people should learn from this Sumerton situation is that queer people are not imune to conspirational thinking and if anything we are more inclined to it than most
This is why a lot of younger queer people unironicaly believed stuff like"the AIDs crisis killed all the fun people" and "queer history is censored by historians" because believe it or not, we are a vulnarable group that are always under attack by real opressive threats.
However that means that queer people can also be riled up against made up threats like "straight white women" or "foreign influences" which is easy especially if you already have some kind of prejudices against the groups in question
With the hbomberguy plagiarism video on fire right now I want to share my favorite example of egregious plagiarism.
I’m a marine biologist. Currently getting my PhD. I’ve done a lot of scholarly writing. Many classes I took as an undergraduate had big writing components. I took limnology at one point as an elective. This course had one such big writing assignment.
The professor told us a story. He said he once got a student paper that absolutely blew him away. It was way beyond what he’d expected from the class. This was before we had online tools to check for plagiarism. The paper impressed him so much that he brought it home to show it to his wife. She began reading it and then set it down, looked at him, and said, “Dan, you wrote this.”
This student was dumb enough to not only copy a published paper verbatim, but to copy a paper published by the professor of the class.
AND HE NEARLY GOT AWAY WITH IT.
"this character has 5 mins of screentime how can you like them" WRONG character has 4:30 MINUTES OF SCREENTIME PRECISELY and i LOVE THEM. BABY BRAWL
"internet historian's alt-right anyways" "great day to have never liked james somerton" "never even heard of illuminaughtii before this lol"
that's great buddy but don't go around thinking you're immune to this. if you're not looking for plagiarism, you likely won't notice it unless its egregiously obvious. hell, you've probably consumed plagiarized content without even realizing it. even hbomb pointed out that these people disguised what they presented pretty well as long as you didn't try and dig deeper. don't come away just thinking of this as a callout piece, take this as an important lesson about vetting your sources. if googling scripts in quotes was enough to expose the original, we should all start doing that shit!!
citationless behavior
okay so rewatching hbomberguy's new video, James Somerton has:
Called ND Stevenson and Rebecca Sugar women so he can make a point about how queer women have it easier
stolen an Asian transmasc person's very personal essay on Mulan and queer Asian identity
stolen from Alexander Avila, the One somewhat well known transmasc video essayist
Lied about English courts letting Radclyffe Hall "live her happy life" because perceived-female queerness wasn't legally persecuted, when in actuality, they were charged with obscenity and had their work destroyed
clearly a man whose very normal and chill about transmascs and anyone he sees as a woman i think
& the point Harris makes at the end of the video about James benefiting from queer erasure adds to this. Literally a cis guy taking transmascs' work– in a field where transmascs have barely any visibility– and capitalizing off of their effort without giving them any credit. in one case, literally taking a person's essay on Asian transness, cutting out all of their personal stories and experiences with the subject, and claiming he, a white cis man, thought it all up himself.
Mega fuck this dude. You could've used your platform to lift up transmasc voices and perspectives but instead you just stole from them and then turned around and complained about how queer people seen as women have it easy.
